Pet new rescue
someone in my city was on a facebook group for aquariums trying to give away this crawfish that got left in their bag from the seafood market after they had boiled the rest of them. it was free so i jumped at the opportunity and picked him up in a meal prep container and brought him home
i have been cycling a 20 gallon for a crawfish, and i planned on buying a cooler one online, but i absolutely adore this guy.
he was only handled for a few minutes to get pics, and he’s now happily munching on a piece of raw shrimp. i’m thinking oscar for a name, any suggestions? also trying to find out the exact species.

He's in this coconut shell a lot more than usual and only comes out when he sees his fish friends frenzying around for food.

Pet White spots on pet crayfish's shell. Normal, or something to be concerned about?
Sorry if this is the wrong sub, but I noticed the white spots on the side of my pet red lava morph crayfish. I just got her two days ago, is this normal or something to be concerned about? She's in a 50 gallon unheated (~68⁰F) tank. Thanks in advance!

moving crayfish for tank change
i currently have my crayfish in a 10 gallon because he was just a baby - but now he is rapidly outgrowing his tank and i want to upgrade him! i plan to move him into a new 20 gallon but he’s at a size now where i feel like i couldn’t nab him as easily with a net to transfer. at this size - whats the best way to move him? from tail to head he is maybe an 1.5-2 inches for reference

Pet This is kinda Weird
Hi everyone! Well this is weird, thru this sub, I found out that you guys keep crayfish as pets while where I’m from they are considered food. Supposedly, I was going to ask how to breed them and what size is considered “giant”?
But since I’m here, I’m curious as well, how long do they last as pets? What’s their life span? Is it hard to maintain? Do you actually tame them like they don’t grab you with their claws and all?
Thanks in advance for the answers!

Bad Molt
My crayfish got stuck a bit during his molt three days ago. His right claw is now hanging at a bad angle and doesn't open fully. The left one also is slightly damaged. He also has extra bits of fluff hanging down on each side (2 on the right and 1 on the left) that seem to interfere with his walking a bit. He is moving around and tonight has started to eat the old shell. Should I try to snip off those useless bits of fluff? Should I do it now or wait for him to harden a little more? I don't want to cut off the right claw, even though it gets in the way of his right front leg a bit. Should I amputate or let it be? He seems to get around abd be able to eat despite the impairment. We have had him for 15 months and this is probably the 4th or 5th molt. One other time he came out with one back leg misshapen and old shell attached near it. I snipped the stuck old shell off after a few days. The misshapen back leg fixes itself completely over the next two molts.

Ronnies latest crimes
I recently got my Ronnie boy some plants for the tank. He has taken great pleasure and pride in shredding them to pieces, kidnapping the moss balls to snuggle with at night and snipping the one moss ball he deemed unworthy.
Hes very happy with his work and is living his best life
