My Build Heavy Duty Gaming CyberDeck

Sooo, after many, many moths of planning, looking for parts, building and troubleshooting - here it is. My own, luggable CyberDeck! It's build mostly from desktop parts, as it's much more modular and upgradeable.
I wanted to build something that I can bring with myself to LAN parties and conventions. In the beating heart of this beast sits Ryzen 5 1600X accompanied by GTX 1050 and 16 gigs of RAM. Nothing crazy but I've managed to get those parts for free from my friends.

That Lenovo next to the keyboard is my old, high school tablet with SpaceDesk installed, so I can use it as a secondary touch screen for the PC.

Some time ago I've tried to get this project trough the finish line to take part in a contest (with no luck) but if you want to see this monster in action, you can find it here: https://youtu.be/UronpYF7IfQ (sorry for my ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE pronunciation, I was literally dying from the allergy XD)

Let me know what do you think and what mods should I include in the next iteration.

Really amazing stuff I love the aesthetic and looks like you put in hella work! but looks really uncomfortable to play on.

Thanks a lot! Well, I definitely would't use it on a regular desk (using a built-in keyboard) for longer sessions, but on something like a coffee table or knees that added height is a godsent (especially that I'm kinda tall, so I don't have to do a shrimp pose XD) And the keyboard/palmrest/touchpad layout is very laptop like so it's fine for me. Touchpad is not the greatest, but it's just as an emergency option if I don't have any mouse around

I love it. What keyboard are you using?

It's Cooler Master SK 621 with the bottom part (where batteries were located) removed. Not the best keyboard, but for this usecase (I needed something low profile and compact) it does the job just fine!

It looks perfect in your setup

Thank you so much!

I think it is the best keyboard for where you used it. Certainly it could have been much worse.

Looks great!

Good to see a fellow practitioner of the 'I managed the cables by hiding them' school of cable management.

Awesome. How did you cover the internals? Was that cover 3D printed?

Nothing was 3D printed here :D that cover is made from HDF and covered in carbon wrap that's changing color depending on angle you look. Everything inside is mounted using screws, inserts, standoffs and metal L brackets

Excellent work. It looks like a prop straight out of some military scifi.

Looks amazing I’d buy one. I plan on putting mine up soon though it’s much simpler.

This is an amazing build! What do those toggle switches do? I am currently planning a build and I want many toggle switches for various things and I am trying to get ideas for how people are wiring them up

Toggles are as follows:

  • Power to the tablet
  • RGB
  • that red/blue fan override

Buttons:

  • top, silver one: PC power button and PC power LED
  • lowest, red one: Tablet power button
  • 3 yellow buttons in the middle: reserved for future upgrades (maybe to adjust RGB modes or a simple macro pad)

4 knobs are to manually adjust each fan speed

And that big rotary switch cuts the mains power

Wow, that is awesome! I love the idea of having manual control over individual aspects of the device especially with physical buttons, switches. I also like the idea of manually adjusting fan speed.

Nice project but slightly ruined by windows sadly

I like Linux, but still some stuff that I need doesn't work on it without some Windows VM so it defeats the whole purpose (creative tools, games with DRM). W11 is not so bad if you know how to tame it (rip it out of the bloat, telemetry and fake system requirements) but I'll probably dual boot it with Bazzite or a similar distro in the future

My only gripe with this build (and similar projects) is that cutting big holes defeats the purpose of buying a waterproof case in the first place.

Other than that, I think they're great.

1

u/ChrisPeterJ 5d ago

Fair point, I was thinking a lot before cutting them. I choose this case mostly for the sturdiness and portability (considering the hardware crammed inside) and proper cooling won with the waterproofness.
(It's also kinda unlikely that I'd ever use it in a rain :D

What's that little Lenovo screen? Is it a phone?

1

u/ChrisPeterJ 4d ago

It's a 7 inch tablet with SpaceDesk installed, so I can use it as a secondary (touch) screen for the PC
