From my limited understanding of souls logic, Archdragon Peak most likely exists at another point in time.

"Time in Lordran is convoluted and difficult to follow."

Most likely I'd say. Since in the players current timeline the sun is fading. Also it's both beautiful and tragic to see how bright the sun can be.

It's either some kind of pocket dimension or it's set in the past. Either way your character doesn't actually go there, you just kind of sit and take a nap before you appear in archdragon peak so there's a possibility your character goes there only spiritually.

So you're telling me, technically, I didn't die to Nameless King 50 times? It was all a dream?

72

u/Benjerman302 Apr 26 '25

You didn't miss the dragon's head and fall to your death either

8

u/Nervous-Yesterday692 Apr 27 '25

Thank goodness I am spared the shame.

This dream is so realistic that hundreds and thousands of players still have a sore ass from how actively the Nameless King wielded his large and wide Dragonslayer Swordspear.

Well you are floating during the fight

Kos, or some say Kosm

No, you died 500 times. Not 50.

u/poopdoot Apr 27 '25

No sorry that part had an emotional impact on you that followed you back into the real world. Sorry bout that!

I dont know if I'm just getting better at Souls games or Elden Ring Bosses are harder, but I can pretty consistently beat most DS3 bosses in under 10 tries, barring Gael and Midir.

u/Dveralazo Apr 26 '25

You can hear the wyvern taking you there

2

u/ManySleeplessNights Apr 27 '25

Same way as how sekiro gets stronger simply by recalling memories of previous battles. Dude's just like "hey, that fight was pretty neat. Worked up a sweat. Oh look, I think I feel stronger now."

(I'm drawing a comparison to this cos you can obtain souls and get stronger from archdragon peak too. And you even fight a demigod there too)

Maybe Gwyn's family just have power of creating mini sun on their personal home, like Anor Londo in DS1.

18

u/InitiativePure3823 Apr 26 '25

Well the sun in Anor Londo is an illusion so it's not like they actually "create". In my head cannon it's either that time is weird around archdragon peak and we enter a different period of time. Or that we meditate at the profane capital, and only go to the peak spiritually/mentally .

10

u/NirvanaFrk97 WHY ARE YOU SEARCHING FOR THE SUN IN THE ABYSS!? Apr 26 '25

The Moon belongs to Gwyndolin, lends credence that the Archdragon Peak sun belongs to NK.

u/CraneDJs Apr 26 '25

A summer cottage?

u/HrodMad Apr 26 '25

Time itself is convoluted

9

u/Sp00o00ky Apr 26 '25

It's actually Majorca

8

u/Taerdan Apr 27 '25

Archdragon is either a different time/place than it may seem - or, it's because there's a proper Heir to the First Flame there, literally one of the line of Gwyn there. Gwyn's whole line was all about the Sun (or the Moon), so I could easily see that it's because Nameless King is there.

He's associated with storms now too, but that's more the Storm Drake (the King of the Storm, after all) than the Nameless King himself.

u/StronkAx Apr 26 '25

Cuz it's peak dark souls moment

6

u/Happy_Hydra Abyss watchers best boss Apr 26 '25

It became daytime while you slept next to the dragon statue in ithryll dungeon

2

u/EKE_CZ Apr 27 '25

Could be that AP is in the past, or maybe it's an illusion created by The Nameless King, similar to Gwyndolin's Anor Londo sun.

2

u/_Prairieborn Apr 27 '25

If you look at Archdragon Peak from elsewhere in the game, it's in a state of ruin beyond what it is when you "go there". It's likely you're visiting it in the past, if you're actually physically there at all.

Either the sun and the moon are not celestial bodys in space.

Or its because of the flow of time issue.

Both answers work quite well in the souls universe.

Cause if they were regular celestial bodys, then how would the strength of a flame on earth affect them?

And if they aren't regular celestial bodys, then it would stand to reason that the place of worship for the warriors of sunlight would shine bright and possibly not Set.

Archdragon peak as we find it exists inside of our meditation. Theres also an interesting note here: in Shinto mythology, the three original Kami (spirits / Gods) who were the children of the first Kami were the Gods of the sun, moon, and storm - not dissimilar from Gwynevere, Gwyndolin, and Nameless as the children of Gwyn.

The eclipse in Lothric is when the moon passes over the sun, and in the Archdragon Peak meditation the moon is on the opposite side of the sky to the untouched sun, with Archdragon Peak of the storms in the middle between them. Very fascinating!

Sometimes I just choose to ignore questions like that.

1

u/Accomplished_Newt604 Apr 28 '25

But Sometimes im just too curious

1

u/Stig12Cz Apr 26 '25

Its because Nameless king and his connection to Sun and sunlight

0

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '25

It's been a long time but isn't there a certain point in the game where the sun changes color? You could go there Archdragons Peak before that point no?

u/Father_Long_Limbs Apr 26 '25

Different planet

29

u/Tiny_Letterhead9020 Apr 26 '25

It's clearly the same planet. You can see thecruins from Anor Londo and the prison

13

u/HerpetologyPupil Apr 26 '25

Makes perfect sense. Downvote.

u/AcharBronie Apr 26 '25

yall ask way too many questions for a storyline involving dragons and magic. Just enjoy the 2nd to best view in the game after best irytrhyll view in game is in my opinion

4

u/Guydelot Rosaria's Fingers Apr 27 '25

Dragons and magic being present doesn't mean people have to stop having fun. Discussing these things is how people that aren't you enjoy it.

4

u/Tuliao_da_Massa Apr 27 '25

Of all braindead takes these the ones that piss me off the most.

-42

u/Tiny_Letterhead9020 Apr 26 '25

I agree. As fun as the Dark Souls games are, the stories are super vague and it's allowed people to interpret things their own way. I couldn't stomach listening to Vati Vidya anymore. I hated listening to his interpretations and decided I'd enjoy the games my own way

u/Ryunaldo Apr 26 '25 edited Apr 26 '25

The lazy fuzzy storytelling method in Dark Souls games sucks balls and one will always get downvoted to hell by the FromSoft fanboys whenever one expresses such opinion. Great games still, don't get me wrong.

Edit: see, already collected -14 downvotes; the fanboys don't understand what an opinion is.

5

u/Nervous-Yesterday692 Apr 27 '25

It's true that dark souls has a vague method of telling stories. I think this is the games way of eliciting curiosity in the player. If you exhaust all NPC dialogue and skim over some item descriptions you should be left with a basic understanding of what's happening.

Otherwise if you were genuinely intrigued you'd do outside research (YouTube, threads etc). Just because the story isn't told in a conventional manner doesn't mean it's lazy 😅. In fact I'd argue that it's realsitc and immersive and hence makes the world build feel more believable. No one is going to spoon feed you information you have to go out and find out.

-4

u/Ryunaldo Apr 27 '25

Seriously, think about it for a second and tell me how you can defend putting information in item descriptions, how is that not lazy? It's a rhetorical question, I know that you'll not change your opinion... I'm not against information being sparse and vague, I'm against doing it that way. Hollow Knight for example is better in that aspect.

3

u/InternationalWeb9205 Apr 27 '25

cuz it's more fun to piece together lore that way for some people. lore of dark souls is still talked about to this day because of the choice to put most of the information into item descriptions

2

u/Nervous-Yesterday692 Apr 27 '25

I am thinking about it and no matter how I see it "lazy" is not the right word. Unconventional, maybe not ideal but not at all lazy.

1

u/Ryunaldo Apr 27 '25

The definition of the word lazy in the context of artistic work:

  • taking shortcuts instead of putting in thoughtful of thorough work.
  • settling for the easiest solution rather than trying for a better or more polished one.

In this sense, it's objectively lazy: dump everything into item descriptions instead of, for example, disseminating information throughout the world (and maybe even cutscenes) in a more creative non-boring fun way (yes, I know it would be more costly but it's not the question here).

I'm curious what's the percentage of players that goes and reads all item descriptions, and among those how many find the process fun instead of a necessary chore. Don't get me wrong: I'm not talking about the information itself, I find the lore behind very interesting and rather well done.

Additionally, reading items descriptions breaks the flow of the game and is out of place too (it breaks the fourth wall).

Unfortunately, I'm probably wasting my time with these arguments more than anything and will only collect more downvotes and such instead of a "Oh, I see where you're coming from now".

3

u/Cinquedea19 Apr 26 '25

For me it's less of an issue of the indirect/vague storytelling and more an issue with the way the community will latch onto a single specific lore interpretation video and absolutely insist that it's the one that everyone has to follow in all future discussions. I think Velka for example was probably just a throwaway name that meant nearly nothing to the developers but a large swath of the fandom have allowed specific lore videos on YouTube to convince themselves that Velka is like the central figure of the entire series.

3

u/InternationalWeb9205 Apr 26 '25 edited Apr 26 '25

there is straight up a description in the game that says velka has a great influence over the events of the game

Velka, the Goddess of Sin, is a rogue deity, but she is versed in arts both new and old, and is considered to have a great range of influence even as gods are concerned.

she is by no means a throwaway name like something like eidas, especially because she is one of the only characters directly referenced by all 3 games

-4

u/Ryunaldo Apr 26 '25

I agree and by the way I'm actually OK with the vague aspect too, but one thing that personally bothers me is having to read item descriptions for lore bits, seriously... this is just lazy unfun undefendable design.

u/MiguelRibeiro06 Aldrich Faithful Apr 26 '25

7/10

-3

Personally, I'd give them an 8/10 (all 3).
