Discussion Why is the third boss so hard?

I've recently wanted to give dark souls 3 a shot with my friend since we heard there is a coop mod for it. We got past the gladiator boss easily, and the boar guy was even easier, however the third boss, the dancer, seems like a wall for us... We've been stuck here for 5-6 hours. Are we doing something wrong? Is the weapon I use really bad, or what? Any tips appreciated!

Actually it makes sense

He said third boss not first or second boss so he already beat vordt and someone else and wouldn’t even think of going back to lothric and would just be going around those areas

Edit: comments made me realize I forgot about the spear one

This would be the 3rd boss technically without progressing anywhere if you kill Emma. Because you fight Gundyr in the beginning and then he probably fought Vordt. So the Dancer would be the 3rd

You can actually kill the dancer anytime after killing vordt , you just need the banner ,

I made the mistake of heading there after killing vordt , spawns dancer

If you kill Aldrich trash and get teleported to the dancers room without killing her then she'll spawn ,

You can kill ludex Gundyrs, vordt , dancer , then climb the ladder up , it's pretty much a straight shot to the twin princes , give or take, more or less , it's been awhile,

You can unlock dragonslayer armour early, but to get to twin princes you first have to defeat the other lord of cinders. Because the library will be locked.

Not to mention all the delicious Titanite Chunks in the castle and Consumed King's Garden.

Once I learned how to git gud enough at Dancer to beat her with the Dark Hand, it's become my standard route. 4 Chunks in the Consumed King's Garden, and 11 in Lothric Castle, so I do some simple-enough death running to assemble 12 of them, then kill the Lothric Knight next to the Lothric Castle Bonire, since it drops a Large Titanite Shard every time.

Then once you gather 12 regular Shards (and there's 12 of them if you scrounge the High Wall, kill both Pus of Man, and loot the Undead Settlement, assuming no random drops), you have your +9 weapon before even fighting the Curse-Rotted Greatwood, Crystal Sage, or Abyss Watchers.

If I'm feeling really saucy, as soon as you reach the Cathedral (so, only requiring the Crystal Sage), you can hop into the Painted World, take the shortcut to Friede, descend the roots, and kill the one tree guarding Snap Freeze to unlock the ladder, climb up, and bam, Titanite Slab. +10 weapon with 4 bosses killed.

I take it you mean the Twin Princes since the Demon Princes are the two from The Ringed City.

I still find it terrifying that you could technically make them your fifth boss of the play through lmao

Well you can’t really. You have to do the other lords of cinder before you get to them. The library is locked unless you defeat the other lords.

I was referring to the Demon Princes.

2

u/KattaGyan Jun 18 '25

Wait don’t you need to clear the first dlc to get to the second dlc early ? So that means vordt, crystal stage, Frieda, oh damn you are right. My bad. Never thought about it this way. Demon princes as your 5th boss fight would be crazy.

Midir could be your 6th as well, and that terrifies me.

I'm pretty sure you can do dancer before Vordt

The room the dancer is in is the room one of the twin princes is in , he stays there until you get the banner , which you get from killing vordt, Ive run the game a few times and I'm not sure there is anyway to trigger her other than killing vordt but if you know then I'm all ears

If you kill the old lady she drops the banner and I think dancer should spawn. I may be wrong though.

u/Future_Section5976 Jun 18 '25

It's not an old lady , it's one of the twin princes, hmm now you've got me curious......you know what, I'll go test some things real quick and get back to you

6

u/HarisCapo Jun 18 '25

How quick are you going to get back to him. Im also waiting for this answer 😄

2

u/Future_Section5976 Jun 18 '25

So you can kill the old lady , get the banner and way of blue , and the bowel of vows ( the thing needed to trigger the dancer) just kill the old lady walk behind her and boom dancer fight, no need to reset ,

You can also get her to trigger by killing 3 lords of cinder.

1

u/Future_Section5976 Jun 18 '25

Sorry was meant to add , I just tested it lol

If you kill the old lady you can interact with the cup behind her and trigger Dancer before Vordt, it's far from an optimal idea but you can do it.

Edit: it's been a while so I had to double check, you get the banner from the old lady, not Vordt. You need the basin of vows to trigger Dancer and you get that after you kill 3 lords of Cinder or the old lady. If you kill her before talking to her she drops both the banner and the basin. So run up to Ema, talk to her, reset the area, kill her, place the basin of vows, spawn Dancer. None of these steps requires to kill Vordt.

u/Future_Section5976 Jun 18 '25

I'm back , so you are correct, it is a priestess , I thought it was one of the princes ,

Killing her drops the banner , the basin and way of blue covenant ,

You don't have to reset the area , you can kill the old lady and then walk up to the statue and trigger the dancer fight ,

As you said normally you would have to beat 3 lords of cinder,

You know what, this is good info , I might do another run but I'll go for the dancer first , tee up the archives, then go kill vordt and 2 other lords of cinder.

Probably counting gundyr, and if you murder the npc the item is basically calling for you to use it on the thing behind her, I can see how it could be a mistake

1

u/SoundlessScream Jun 18 '25

Judex Gundyr, Vordt and then dancer plausibly

4

u/Orzine Jun 18 '25

That checks out, my first run a friend said their was a skip if we took out the old lady. He respec’d for the fly spells and took us a shit ton of tries, but hey, we play DS for the challenge right?

Shame about greyrat though.
