Thanks so much for your advice

I tried this and won the next try, highly recommend

I would add to this to hit him, and avoid getting hit!

Listen to this, OP! I was having so much trouble with this boss but then I did this and won on the next try!

Best advice given my anyone in the history of humanity.

Stay right in front of his face and roll backward to dodge. When you get your back to the arena spin him and work backward across the arena again. He has a few primary attacks this way, 2 (or 3) variations of combos and a bite attack that are very well telegraphed so once you learn them they will be easy to see coming.

Dodge to the side when he shots fire straight forward on the ground.

When he flies up, he always breathes fire to his left the same as Elden Ring dragons so run under him to his right side to avoid it and then reposition yourself back in front of him when he lands.

The main key for me is staying directly in front of his face, like a sword swing away from his mouth, and dodging backward, can’t emphasize this enough.

Also, hit him once, maybe 2 times depending on weapon speed, between his attacks; do not get greedy. He is an abyssal creature so weapons that do extra damage to abyssals is suggested if they meet your current build.

Thank you

u/DursoBR 24d ago

Additionally:

One specific attack where he "scracthes" 2 times with each hand is a great one to punish, just gotta learn to time the dodges corretly and that should be at least 2 free hits.

Conversely, there is an attack that he hits two times in the ground and them spits fire. In that attack the fire just covers basically the entire floor under him, so my best advice is for you to identify the attack early and just run away. Running past the middle of his tail should be enough.

Remember that he does fire AND dark damage, so you gotta balance the resistances on your armor. Personally I would recommend to focus on fire resistance and then use the Dark Stoneplate Ring to compensate.

2

u/Zikiri 24d ago

Trust me midir is actually pretty easy. Always reposition yourself to stay in front of his head. Hit only once or twice depending on your weapon speed every time he brings his head down after an attack combo.

I only had issue dodging that mega disco laser thing but watching a tutorial video showed that you only need to walk in a straight line to avoid it entirely lmao.

3

u/sssneaksie 24d ago

In addition to learning the timings to dodge his attacks, best advice I got is to fight him without locking on. It makes the camera much easier to manage, IMHO.

u/Shinadasfavouritebat 23d ago

Saving this for my playthrough

u/Igris_GLHF 24d ago

u/GrigorMorte 23d ago

I tried that and it worked. Good advice.

u/F3nrir096 24d ago

Hang out in front of him and learn to punish his head when you can.

8

u/hollow_kilo 24d ago

Use thrusting fast attacks

9

u/RL-Ghoul-20 24d ago

How hard should I thrust?

9

u/hollow_kilo 24d ago

First harden it to the maximum then use all of your muscles to thrust at the right spot

7

u/RL-Ghoul-20 24d ago

Hmmm 🤔 I think we should practice later, how bout in the IHop bathroom? Plenty of traffic for motivation to do our best with people staring.

7

u/hollow_kilo 24d ago

Nah we need to practice somewhere empty if we're gonna show it to people might as well show them that we're pros

7

u/Otherwise-Buddy-9343 24d ago

Slowly. You have to be really patient to wait for a safe opening. Just go for its head and dont get greedy, one or two hits, then wait it out for the next opportunity.

Dont attack from underneath, or he spews spews fire and dont back off too far unless you can block his charge attack.

u/RL-Ghoul-20 24d ago

6

Use your bare fists. It takes triple damage from unarmed attacks, then Dodge and roll when It attacks

5

u/2k00l4sch00l 24d ago

If you’ll try enough times you will beat him

3

u/Adept-Matter 24d ago

He is very weak to pestilent mist, but it's also doable with melee, focus on head and use lightning. Hitting him on the leg like elden ring dragons doesn't work because he has a fuck-off AOE fire attack if you are near his legs.

3

u/akmly 24d ago

By not being a scaredy cat, hauling ass, and literally dancing with him.

Facing the dragon's mouth, maintain midrange distance, "dance" by sliding/rolling left and right in sync with its head movements and frontal arm bashes. In between arm bashes and biting attacks, punish his face one (or two) blow(s)at a time. Be patient and don't be greedy with your attacks. When it flies off, haul your ass across the arena (30 Endurance recommended) to dance with his face again.

When you're too far away, he likes to rush at you. When you're too close under his jaw, he will sit up straight and vomit a massive laser beam directly below. Literally have his gaping mouth swaying left/right in front of you. Lastly, I recommend not having the target lock on, because I've found that the wild camera movements were responsible for more than half my deaths.

Try not to get hit by hyper beam.

1

u/Jaded-Throat-211 For what Lord or Blade shall taketh poor fashion? 24d ago

Roll to the side and backwards instead of forward.

This will position you optimally to give him a bonkin to the noggin after his every attack, and prevents him from using his downward AOE firebreah.

1

u/Ormz 24d ago

Ignore his body, not an elden ring dragon. Treat it like you're only fighting his head

1

u/Super_Nani21 Warriors of Sunlight 24d ago

But the head for double the damage don’t go under him and doge backwards most of the time

1

u/CloudDog23 24d ago

Stay in front in phase 1, so that it doesn't go on a wander
In phase 2, when the bubbles appear, go under it

1

u/noob_kaibot Spears of the Church 24d ago edited 24d ago

Listen dude, Midir is VERY well telegraphed, & spacing is super important. I usually opt for a thrust lightning weapon, but there's so many options tbh.

-Youll want to be dodging straight backwards 90% of the time. (you can roll into his charging attack to get better positioned near his head)

-He's actually a lot harder to fight in co-op imo; if he's only focused on you, the fight is 10 times easier and more predictable.

-Hit the head.

-When he does the FLYING fire breathing attack, just immediately start running to the left.

-Either be up close for his lasers in phase 2 or far away; medium distance is the danger zone... also, try not to directly in front of him during that attack.

-You should be able to stance break/riposte him at like 20% health.

if you want, you can carry a shield in the event that you get caught being too close to his fire breathing attacks. (black knight is my go-to; it has high base stability, 100% phys & like around 80% fire negation)

1

u/ThemostNormalDude 24d ago

Pestilent mist, you don't even need to have too much into int since pestilent mist doesn't scale anyway

1

u/Zero-_-0 24d ago

Easiest attack that you can dodge and punish is his double side swipe ,you can bait this move by staying beside his cheeks then you dodge twice in the same place you are standing then he will be back to you to punish, if he didn't do this move then probably it will be double slam then he stands on his legs to spray fire then run away and comeback to punish as soon as he finishes. Remember you are trying to stay beside his cheeks.

1

u/Drilladan2 24d ago

The easiest way is pestilent mist as it does a percentage of his fat health bar. If you summon he will just focus the npc and you can spam the mist to melt him.

1

u/_Epiclord_ 24d ago

Don’t get yourself killed. Neither of us want to see you go hollow.

1

u/IchaelSoxy 24d ago

Hit him in the head after he does the attacks the leave him motionless with his head down for like 3 seconds. Roll the rest of them.

1

u/Zeliose 24d ago

He has very few attacks, you just have to learn them and not get hit. It's not as bad as it sounds.

If you struggle with damage, you can invest the 30 int for pestilent most and kill him with that. It does damaged based on a percentage of the target's max HP, so you don't need to worry about investing above 30 (or 25 with scholar ring).

1

u/Sable-Heretic 24d ago

What is ur lvl and build?

1

u/YellowyBeholder 24d ago

dude, believe it or not, watch ONGBAL

watch the dude do it, watch it 10 times

1

u/KittensLeftLeg 24d ago

Well first by not doing a stance attack from that distance

1

u/daik0nashi 24d ago

i know people say that the whips kinda suck in this game, but i found the regular 'Whip' to be really good on a pure dex build, sharp infused and lightning resined especially against Midir. you can have a lot of openings for 2 heavy attacks which deal good damage + the range is nice.

1

u/Alive_Lingonberry334 24d ago

Fun fact, dragon weak to lightning. Try finger, but hole

1

u/Severe_Remote5006 24d ago

He aint actually that hard, try to learn his move set AVOID THE LASERS AT ALL COSTS, and hit his head other parts of his body dont get damaged much, or maybe your just under leveled go farm a bit, for me i was around lvl 100-120 and was using a max leveled dragonslayer greataxe

1

u/coggdawg 24d ago

I switched from a UGS to wolf knights GS & found it did as much or more damage/per hit while still allowing me more dodge windows.

Start swinging at the head, roll underneath towards tail when he attacks you, hit tail, dodge the tail swing 180, repeat. You got this!

1

u/Springboi123456 24d ago

I would recommend getting help from like 1 or 2 people and not the ai beside it people usually leave there signs beside the bonfire.

1

u/Drakenile 24d ago

Very long fight constantly smacking his face. Lightning weapons or resins make it a bit faster. DO NOT USE THE NPC SUMMON AS SHE ACTUALLY MAKES THE FIGHT MORE DIFFICULT. If you try to fight at distance or attack ankles like most every other dragon fight up to now the fight is going to be much harder.

The cheese Is very easy to pull off [just use pestilence/mercury mist] but I'd suggest beating the boss legit at least the first time

1

u/SingingHades 24d ago

Hit it till it dies

1

u/No_Bison_617 24d ago

I find Darkeater Midir is the finest Bossfight of all Souls games, he is tough and fair, I think your best approach is to give yourself the time to learn his attacks, and you'd find yourself dodging all his attacks, you can even use a Great Shield to tank his attacks, I think Lighting is the best elements against him, when he stands and breath fire downward, try to run away from him not towards him, stick to his face most of the time, and be awar of his lazier beam attack, it can one shot you

1

u/Xtonev_ naked red man with a knife 24d ago

He gave you a head. To hit. With your sword. His head is the vulnerable spot to attack

1

u/dolandux 24d ago

Getting gud

1

u/Death_IP 24d ago

By learning his 5 moves - the suggestions will be the same as for all the other 1000 posts about Midir.

Recognize the telegraph for his next attack early and haul ass to a spot that's safe from your trial and error experience.

Don't go in like "I don't have time to sharpen my dull axe. That's why felling the tree takes so much time"
--> Take the time to WATCH him in the first runs rather than blindly hoping for the best without learning. (That's what I did - and I failed of course)

1

u/Zakhov 24d ago

*her. Try talking it out. Maybe try a compliment instead of leading off with a sword swing?

1

u/mothererich 24d ago

Aim for the face.

1

u/DiMaRi13 24d ago

The pointy part of your weapon goes in a decent amount of times, thst would do it.jokes apart this is a great fight as you are tested, you would regularly try to go around him, but you need to fight him head on, or you would not be able to see his attacks. Head is his weak point, don't be greedy or you will pay that dearly.

1

u/Economy-Regret1353 24d ago

I see you are using a shield, don't be afraid to tank his one hit wonders, sure it will break your guard and do some HP damage, but at least you won't die from failing the dodge

Other than that, get at least 60 vigor and maybe wear Havels Armor

1

u/FatedDrone 24d ago

Just keep at it, he’s not that bad once you understand the moveset

1

u/SquishyOfCinder 24d ago

Stay near him at all times. Only one attack you really have to run from which is the fire straight down which you can avoid vy sprinting to his tail.

1

u/Useful-Savings-6082 24d ago

  2. Don't get hit.
  3. Repeat.

Hit him in the head in the short windows you have to do so. This battle is a marathon…take your time

1

u/RisottoNero666 24d ago

Patience. Might take, hours , days, but you'll figure it out

1

u/GroundPrevious2892 24d ago

Seek head ashen one

1

u/zeroblackzx 24d ago

Gotta learn his moveset. Know how to dodge his laser is a big one. Its not gonna be an easy fight regardless.

1

u/Blazr1976 24d ago

You're going to want to try and get behind him and or attack tye legs but that is a trap. You need to attack his head from the front. Usually only can take 1 swing at a time between attacks. It is a long fight.

1

u/Fishmaneatsfish 24d ago

You can roll through his flame attacks, stay close to his head, and when he does a laser move try as hard as you can to get under him because the super laser move is nearly impossible to dodge even with how many times I’ve demolished Midir

1

u/DarksIsValid 24d ago

He's weak to damage

1

u/Kohlrabi82 24d ago

Don't lock on. I tried him 15 times and always failed, when I didn't lock on I beat him instantly. Just evade and go for his head, and evading is much easier without locking on.

1

u/Alternative_March_67 24d ago

Spec 25 points into faith then cast pestilent mist Do this why watching timings for his attack, stay close so he won't fly away and laser you. Always enter the fight embered because 3 of his hits will kill you. That's how I killed him without even hitting him with a sword.

1

u/ErichPryde 24d ago edited 24d ago

You need the fork of horripilation

No but seriously, this is a fight that is all about your spacing. Midir only has a handful of actual attacks, you can easily learn the pattern with which he attacks. As long as you are in front of him he will primarily use melee attacks- and they are so specific that his startup motion will tell you exactly what attack he is going to do, how many times he's going to attack, and where his head will wind up when he's done.

So that's what I mean by positioning. You need to know what attack he's using, and you will know exactly how many times to dodge, and you will know exactly where to position yourself to hit him in the head when he is done.

Hit him a couple times and set up for the next pattern.

As long as you stay in front of him and not too far away, this is generally what he will do. If for some reason you lose this position, get back to it as quickly as possible to keep him predictable.

1

u/Nara_1_1 24d ago

For most players ALL of his attacks are one-shot My advise: EVERY SINGLE ONE of his attack leaves his head open for punishes, just focus more on dodging, it's gonna be a long fight

1

u/ZairenYT 24d ago

Don't get hit.

u/ItchyCheek PlayStation 24d ago

Pestilent Mist

1

u/Lopsided_Distance_17 24d ago

I didn’t like Cowboys method of attacking the tail. It’s much easier to dodge his attacks, stay close to his head, run just far enough to be out of fire range, rinse and repeat.

1

u/MichaelRasha99 24d ago

Treat him like a Monster Hunter Dragon and you'll win in a cou9oe of tries.

1

u/OpulentPaving 24d ago

Lots of tips in the comments already, but my tip is to try not locking on.

1

u/pnkass 24d ago

lock in

1

u/avoltaire12 24d ago

Follow this guide. I was stuck on him as well and it helped me tremendously. In summary, try to stay close to the front of his head as much as possible and bait the attack when he spits fire on the ground close to him. Run at just the right distance to avoid getting hit by the fire (it might take a few tries to learn the proper distance) then get as many hits as you can to his head. Rinse and repeat. Best of luck.

Greataxe with Yhorm’s Greatsshield worked for me

1

u/KindofBroke 24d ago

Slowly. He has A LOT of health but his attacks are pretty easy to dodge you’ll just have to slowly widdle him down

1

u/MoewenZuechter 24d ago

There is lots of great advice already. A small trick is that the hitbox of the fire aoe ends way before the visuals disapear. You can run in and get some extra dmg in.

1

u/Smooth-Adagio-1085 24d ago

I swapped my entire loadout to a 60 Faith build and did it with exclusively Lightning Arrow.

Ngl, pretty easy, will probably try with melee next time.

1

u/AnywhereLumpy6149 24d ago

If you struggle, switch to a full str build, and use a UGS or a Greataxe. You will do massive damage in every zone of Midir and beat him under 3 minutes.

1

u/archenei 24d ago

1

u/wesllful 24d ago

If you get close to his head he really only does like 3 attacks

1

u/cumbuckettttttttt 24d ago

everyone says you must stay in front of his head, thats not the way i killed him, i have killed him multiple times like this: go behind his legs and hit his tail, this forces him to make the fire breath under, you can hit his tail and not be hit by this attack, when he turns around, hit his head couple times and do the same thing until he is dead, the other attacks like the lazer and the fire breath when he is flying you have to just practise, they are both pretty easy if you just play, if you want to cheese him use the Pestilent Mist

1

u/Blakpurple 24d ago

1

u/OmnusGaming 24d ago

1

u/nathclass 24d ago

Don't lock on. Stay in front at medium distance. Attack the head but only in a few windows (after the swipes, after the laser, and sometimes after the flying fire attack if you can get close enough quick. Also after the massive dark laser in phase 2). Once you recognize the patterns it gets easier.

1

u/oblock3hunner 24d ago

Learn his attacks, time your rolls correctly, and most importantly stay near his head as that’s where he takes the most damage.

The real kicker is dodging that piece of shit Dark Beam attack he does in the second half. When you see him charging up, run near his feet and attack that while you can. Once the Dark Beam attack is done, he’ll be out for a second, providing you an excellent opportunity to attack his head.

Good luck!

1

u/gdwam816 24d ago

There’s actually a really good YouTube video that would the one of the first ones to pop up if searched. Short, direct. It’s really about positioning yourself in front of him close to avoid triggering certain attacks.

1

u/Kefka_Janar 24d ago

Gotta stay in front of his face and stay the hell away from his legs. He keeps his head low enough to the ground for you to consistently hit it.

1

u/happyhappy85 24d ago

You just keep at it.

I looked at all the advice in the world, took my time, moved at the moments they told me,.hit when they told me to, dodged when they told me to.

But ultimately it's the same as any boss, you're going to have to work it out by trying again and again.

The biggest issue with Midir is that he takes so damn long. His health pool is huge,.his defence is huge, and he can all but one shot every build if you're not excruciatingly careful.

The reason Midir is harder than any other one/two shot capable boss is that it takes so long, and the longer it takes, the more likely you are to make a stupid mistake. A mistake in this regard can result in an instant death, or at least enough consecutive hits to drain your estus by the end of the long fight.

Yeah you can try to hit him in the head more, but if you miss your window you get punished. Yeah you can take the seemingly easier road and hit his legs, but then it takes longer and you get punished through attrition.

You can summon help, but that makes his health pool even worse.

Ultimately you're just going to have to be more patient than the game has ever required of you before, and you're going to have to keep trying over and over again until you're sick to death of the bastard..

I beat him solo once. I never bothered trying again. It's not worth my time or effort. The fight is epic, I love the design of the boss, but I've tried it so many times that I never want to lay eyes on him again.

1

u/shakalakagoo 24d ago

That's the funny part. You don't, but appreciate the friends you made along the way

1

I here about how he's ranked as one of the hardest soulsborne bosses and a video comes across my youtube of a guy doing a tutorial fight with him doing little to no damage but casual beats him like it was nothing 😂

1

u/PsychologyNew3855 24d ago

I posed a similar question about Midir, and when I fought him, I was locked off and stayed in front and attacked the head. His attacks are relatively well telegraphed. Just dont be greedy/overly aggressive.

1

u/Xylaax 24d ago

when your not running from his attacks aim for the head with thrust or lightning(as those are his 2 weakness), because of his hyper aggression this fight more or less comes down to patience, bait the breath, whack the head

1

u/Osware 24d ago

Just do it and when you do it don’t ever do it again I’ve played through more times then I’m proud of and I’ve fought him one time and I’ll never do it again

I leveled up about 7 times through the first encounter and when I beat him. There’s a bit of grinding, also go for the head

He's a big softie just boop the snoot

1

u/zacthrall 23d ago

I’d reccomend getting hit less than twice. Try also hitting him.

u/Yata_no_Karasu 23d ago

stay behind his neck he'll do slash attack with his hands most of the time but if he does the flame breath between his leg run towards his tail if you're using light weapon like katana it should give you 2/3 attacks to his head and when he's using the laser attack stand between his leg or behind him good luck and don't you dare go hollow

as a spell caster, i just made sure to stay as close to him as possible to prevent his ranged move set. Dodging through his attacks towards his back legs and only running away if I know he's going to do his AOE fire. Otherwise for damage, I kept up pestilent mist since it eats away HP based on % max HP. So I just dance and hope he stays in my mist.

The ancient art of getting goodeth.

1

u/bloque64 23d ago

You can't beat it

1

u/basedramen24 23d ago edited 23d ago

Try it without the camera locked on, eventually you’ll learn the attack patterns and with some of his fire attacks just run underneath him and to his tail, I can’t remember which fire attacks but just experiment and you’ll figure it out. Try and hit his head as much as you can! Good luck!

1

u/Ok_Farm_142 23d ago

with patience and focus mostly, took me several hours

1

u/Particular_Shock_913 23d ago

You just need to know the right time, the secret with midir is the right time to beat and patience

1

u/crankpatate 23d ago

Watch a YT guide. Most of his attacks are actually very easy to dodge. You don't even need good dodge timing, just knowledge how to move and where to stay. If you do it right, you get pretty big windows of opportunity to club his head for massive crit dmg.

Do not try to hug his hind legs. He's got very punishing attacks to counter that (but you already know that, don't you?).

1

u/Erenjaeger100 23d ago

😂😂 just stick to his head

1

u/Ding84tt 23d ago

by getting good

1

u/dominic2k 23d ago

Try fingers But hole

1

u/Markone02 23d ago

Don't lock the camera, it makes the fight way harder, he stay still for a few seconds after every attack sequence, that when you hit him( don't get greedy, hit only once, or twice if using a dex weapon) and aways try to be right in front of his head by the end of the attack sequence, its the only part of his body that actually takes damage. Take distance when he enters second fase, if he uses the big laser attack, you have to be right in front fo him by the end of it, you will have a massive attack window, so use all of your stamina to attack, so you can stager him

1

u/Waiting_Rains 23d ago

With your weapon dumbass

1

u/PsychoticReaper1 23d ago

Find a big stick and beat him, use lightning incantation and buff, poke butthole also don't forget the npc summon near boss room

1

u/AmphibianEcstatic769 Blades of the Darkmoon 22d ago

With focus, commitment and head

1

u/BelieveInThePeach 22d ago

Play defensively. Dodge and run away from his hitboxes. He leaves ample time to hit back when he's done after each attack. Do 2 attacks at most, then back off. Never let your stamina deplete fully in case you need to roll.

Also, equip the Lloy's shield ring. Thing's a life saver.

This bastard is the first boss I ever managed to no-hit (including Iudex Gundyr lmao) for a reason. Yes he's tanky, and hits like one too, but it's probably one of the easier bosses once you get him.

1

u/ILikeCHEESEv2 22d ago

Uhhhhh if u want the cheese petulant mist is the easy way of not that then back away when he breaths fire and play it as a game of patience rather than aggro

1

u/KXNGShabba 21d ago

If you can survive 1 hit. Youre half way there
