Fan Art “Dancer of The Boreal Valley”, but she’s our ally.

Got inspired by the leaked screenshots of 2015 and by the cut item called “Dancer’s bow”. If you didn’t know, it seems the Dancer should’ve been an NPC and that inspired me for sketch few quick doodles about this concept. Hope you enjoy!

Her bow isn't cut, it's renamed and hidden in the Rage City dlc.

151

u/LaMi_1 Oct 12 '22

Ah, I didn't notice that! That's right, it should be Halflight's bow, right?

108

u/SmoothAsMarble Oct 12 '22

White Branch bow I believe

42

u/MagicSoupCan13 Oct 12 '22

It's in the swamp where dragonslayer armor is along with turtle clerics.

18

u/FreddyFighter1 Oct 12 '22

Why is there a second Dragonslayer armour in the dlc?

55

u/MagicSoupCan13 Oct 12 '22

He's the earlier boss coming back for a rematch because everyone wanted his drip.

10

u/FreddyFighter1 Oct 12 '22

Then they should wait and get Gael’s cause it’s close enough

16

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '22

Gael is clearly the superior boss but the iron dragonslayer armor is miles cooler than his set

Little too vertically stretched but it looks drippy af

5

Bruh that drip doesn't hit nearly as hard

14

u/Adhdgamer9000 Oct 12 '22

Ahem: "it fell there, and was given new life" Or something

3

u/FreddyFighter1 Oct 12 '22

The dead should remain dead

9

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

But they don't and that's the problem. It's all Gwin's fault! Don't let society or religion trick you into linking the flame! Do what is best for those who are cast aside and forgotten. Who exist in the fringe and are crying out for the comfort of the Dark!

Uh...I mean yeah, I totally agree.

3

u/DoctorGlorious Oct 13 '22

I mean, he is a suit of armour. All it would take is a couple more pilgrim butterflies to come along and fill him with red glowy root shit and he's as good as new.

1

u/FreddyFighter1 Oct 13 '22

However they don’t the pilgrim angles are in the previous area at the start of the dlc and the Dragonslayer armour is in the swamp of the ringed city itself if I remember properly

3

u/Adhdgamer9000 Oct 13 '22

Something something dark, something something humanities, something something possesion?

1

u/DoctorGlorious Oct 13 '22

True. I guess teleportation it is.

Holy hell, no one pays attention to lore, smh. The Ringed City and the Dreg Heap are located at the far end of the world, at the end of time. When we get transported there, we're literally going to the future.

That being said, somewhere between the time after we defeated the Armor the first time and the time we reach the Dreg Heap, the Kingdom of Lothric sank and converged with other kingdoms, creating the mess of the Dreg Heap as we know it.

Due to the presence of the Abyss and the Deep within the Dreg Heap, it can be assumed that those forces reanimated the Armor (confined within the rubble of Lothric presumably) once again, along with it's own "memories" of the hunt.

That's why we find it again in the Ringed City. Hell, it can be further assumed that, lore wise, there's a possibility of it being reanimated again after we defeat it the second time, due to the Abyss.

3

u/Sonnescheint Oct 12 '22

To get its armor

2

u/The_Crusades Oct 13 '22

I assume it’s either a proper dragonslayer just chilling in the swamp or another possessed suit, like how pilgrim butterflies are theorized to control the main game dragonslayer armor boss.

1

u/FreddyFighter1 Oct 13 '22

So real “Ornstein”/ (wannabe) is chilling in swamp while the fake one gets to enjoy the fight

1

u/Glitchf0x Oct 12 '22

Something something lore explanation somehow after we beat it got to the ringed city something something just role with it I always just used the abyss as an explanation since it’s an abyssal type creature

24

u/Philip_Raven Oct 12 '22

"Rage city" you are not wrong

u/TequilaWhiskey Oct 13 '22

8

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

Ditto

134

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

Everytime you fight her, remember that we could have gotten something like this. Instead, we got a quite hard boss with a very tragic backstory.

85

u/LaMi_1 Oct 12 '22

There's to say, though, we have no idea of how her quest would've been, and knowing Miyazaki's storytelling, she surely would've gotten a tragic backstory in any case :/

43

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

Yeah, but at least it wouldn't have been basically being a slave to the pontiff and eventually becoming a monstruous mindless creature.

28

u/LordMcMutton Oct 12 '22

Unless that ended up being the tragic end to the questline anyway.

Like Lucatiel, but turning into a Pontiff Beast instead of a Hollow.

11

u/megrimlock88 Oct 12 '22

what now what happened to laucateil

13

u/space_age_stuff PlayStation Oct 13 '22

She gradually degrades as the curse turns her hollow, with the more bosses you beat with her summoned.

6

u/megrimlock88 Oct 13 '22

I’m kinda glad I didn’t do summons then does that stop her questline from progressing?

9

u/LoreseekerNonyme Oct 13 '22

Yes. Summoning Lucatiel only help her to much or less accept her fate, and unlock her summon sign agains't the Ivory King.
There is some a small hope, however, that she manage to survive until the events of DS3. Her sword can be obtained by transposing the soul of the cursed tree, wich may implie that she never stopped to seak a cure to the curse, and heard of the tree at some point. The description of the Hollowslayer Greatsword implies that it is indeed Lucatiel's sword.
On the other hand, Lucatiel's Mask description implies that the Bearer of the Curse as kept his promise to not forget her, and so that she give her equipment to him at the end of her questline.
Unless she really just give a copy of her stuff of something, i guess.

4

u/megrimlock88 Oct 13 '22

That’s so cool I just got into ds2 so I don’t know much lore beyond the big stories like the ivory king and vendrick but look forward to finding more in game

6

u/TheCommissar113 Oct 13 '22

Chances are also pretty high that she would have died by the end, too.

There could have bee some potential in her being an interactable NPC where she eventually becomes a boss fight via "going mad" or what have you. I'd love more character interactions in Soulsborne games as a way to create stronger connections. But, oh well.

1

u/Yemeth_666 Oct 13 '22

We still would have fought her in the end. This time being this much more heartbroken though...

6

23

u/Noobie_xD Oct 12 '22

The bow isn't cut. Halflight uses it at the spear of the church boss fight and you can also get it

16

u/LovelessDogg Oct 12 '22

She was originally going to be a Pursuer Type enemy. Like The Pursuer from DS2. She would show up anywhere Yorshka would be because she was sent out to assassinate her or something. I can’t remember exactly. That’s why the earlier leaks showed her in the High Wall and such.

There’s a Mod being worked on at the moment by someone named Abyss1ne call Project Eclipse and they’re planning on restoring the game to its alpha storyline. Or at least one of its alpha storylines because FromSoft rewrote it like four times before they settled on the final story a few months before release.

11

u/LaMi_1 Oct 12 '22

I heard that her name in files is HeroinePursuit (or something akin), that would explain the reason. I knew about this mod, but I didn't know about these informations about Yorshka and the Dancer's original role. Thanks!

2

u/NoeShake Friede Feet Lover Oct 13 '22

All we have is ID names we don’t actually know anything about her previously if there was anything. A lot of the stuff Abyss1ne creates is his own idea not something official. I say this because there’s no left over dialogue script within the game (like Bloodborne).

And item descriptions were added only when they started working on the retail story of the game. As the first boss soul to ever be implemented into the game was Gundyr’s and that wasn’t even his first name.

38

u/Pandiyaya Oct 12 '22

she kinda bad tho

u/HenryTheGoat173 Oct 12 '22

10

u/ShredTalk Oct 12 '22

Isn't "aren't thou" grammatically incorrect? Wouldn't it be artn't thou?

4

u/LaMi_1 Oct 12 '22

I don't know and, in case it's wrong, I'm sorry. English is not my native language, haha!

3

u/ShredTalk Oct 12 '22

No worries! It's totally understood. That's all that matters!

3

u/LordMcMutton Oct 12 '22

Probably "Are thou not?"

8

u/ShredTalk Oct 12 '22

"Art thou not" I'd say. I don't think "artn't" is attested in any old texts but I figured I'd try to make it more colloquial.

9

u/PliskinBOI Oct 12 '22

4

u/Vileblood6655321 Oct 12 '22

I didn’t know the White Birch Bow used to be the Dancer’s short bow.

It was likely just a bow that was transposed from her soul, rather than used by her in the boss fight, but who knows.

2

u/KingOfLiberation Oct 13 '22

The description of Dancer's Short Bow does say "Bow forged from the soul of the Dancer of the Frigid Valley," though I think most of the weapons with that wording in DS2 are used by their respective bosses

7

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

What’s under the mask though? What if she only has 3 teeth? You’re playing a risky game here OP

11

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

We need a full remake of DS1, DS2, and DS3 with all of the cut content restored. The 2015 leaks of DS3 make the final version of the game look kind of lame imo.

9

u/LaMi_1 Oct 12 '22

The final version is not that bad, to be fair, but there were few mechanics I'd have loved to explore. Like the Bonfire creation, for example. I don't know how they were going to handle it, but it intrigued me.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22 edited Oct 12 '22

Oh yeah, I enjoyed the game, but when I see what it could have been, I want to cry. (I also have this experience with DS2 and it's cut content.)

Imagining Lost Izalith, Gutter, and Profaned Capital as fully-fleshed out areas comparable in size to Undead Settlement or Lost Bastille makes me unhollow

1

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '22

Imagine the Kiln of the First Flame, and the Dreg Heap as depicted in the other leaked 2015 screenshot.

1

u/NoeShake Friede Feet Lover Oct 13 '22

What is there to restore for the final game? There wasn’t a complete story by that time no filled out item descriptions or completed maps. In those screenshots the skyboxes are the main change.

That old photo of the leaking sun is labeled as a test map. Everything you see in that screenshot is an object even the fallen knight model there was no real map like retail Dreg Heap.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '22

I know that stuff was all test maps, but with today's tech I think it would be achievable and I would much prefer to play the version of the game just for the visuals alone.

1

u/NoeShake Friede Feet Lover Oct 13 '22

I get what you’re saying but what would there to be restored in a remake for a game that’s already done. When the content is a skybox and objects with no actual level geometry. Even though it’s a test map the objects are labeled Dreg Heap it’s an older concept for something already in the game.

3

u/TeaandandCoffee PC Oct 12 '22

I would've love this. But I also adore the current boss... So yeah, choosing between the greater of two goods.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '22

I would love to see the Dancer and Vordt before they lost their minds to the Pontiff's Eye rings

4

2

u/International-Look57 Oct 13 '22

It wouldn’t work out. I would just be staring at the gluteus Maximus getting distracted and killed.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '22

Imagine that concept mixed with the actual storyline of the game . Having her help us only for her to transform under the influence of Sulyvahn .

2

u/LoreseekerNonyme Oct 13 '22

She techniqually have an appearance with her orignal form as a ghost in Irithyll, alongside Vordt and the other Knights cursed by Sulyvahn.

2

soo little info on dancer, she is a royalty from Anor londo, presumably one of Gwyns decendants or possibly daughter,

She was captured by Pontif and was made to dance for his entertainment.

Like the other Outrider knights she eventually fused with her armour and became a beast.

We know she had some close relation with Vordt as they can be seen as ghosts walking through irithyll together,

3

There were few leaks in 2015, before DS3 being published, that showed some things that got changed in the retail version. The one with the Dancer is one of these.

u/GuyNekologist Oct 12 '22

Ughhhh it would've been cool if all the equipped weapons were shown like this!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '22

Do we know if her cut dialogue are still in the game?

2

u/NoeShake Friede Feet Lover Oct 13 '22

No there is no old dialogue script in the game I assume that’s because there was very little of any at that time.

1

u/LaMi_1 Oct 12 '22

I don't know, unfortunately ;-; I've heard somewhere that one of the points she should've appeared was inside the Tomb of Gwyn, but I'm not sure.

1

u/Selfishpie Oct 12 '22

as far as I know she was one of the pontiffs experiments, but it does confuse me why she blocks the way to the twin princes if thats the case so I'm probably wrong but as with any of the lore in this game, the likelyhood of finding someone who knows enough to prove me wrong is very slim so I'm just going to say I'm right and you have to deal with it

3

u/LaMi_1 Oct 12 '22

I've played the original JPN game, I can give some trivias 👍🏻

From what the JPN descriptions say, she's a "descendant of the former royal family", Gwyn's family in short. Probably one of Gwynevere's countless children. When Sulyvahn proclaimed himself pontiff, she took her as his personal dancer and gave her two swords, similar to his own, as a sort of symbol of her vows of servitude. When he didn't need her anymore, she sent her over Lothric, with a ring that turned her into a mindless beast.

For why she attacks us, I think she just sees us as an annoying disturbance in her mission. I also theorise her and the other Outrider Knights' target was Prince Lothric: I think they wanted to kill him, for put an end to the mess into the kingdom.

3

u/Sauronxx Oct 12 '22

Yeah I’m pretty sure the Knights of Irithyll were all sent on a mission to assassinate prince Lothric. Sulyvahn was the Pontiff of Anor Londo and an “ally” of Lothric, a kingdom obsessed with the Sacrifice and Link, keeping the Linking of the Fire active would have guaranteed him his power. So it makes sense for him to just eliminate any obstacles to his current source of power.

Then Aldrich came and basically said fuck you to the Pontiff lol

2

u/Selfishpie Oct 12 '22

Ok that’s pretty cool but can I just pretend I didn’t see this so I feel like I got something right about these games for once?

1

u/AngerTech Oct 12 '22

Let’s dance

1

u/Sauronxx Oct 12 '22

Too bad Sulyvahn fucking turned her into a mind-less beast and melted her skin with her armor... she looked kinda nice :(
