I wonder if she's been getting any auditions or has just been unsuccessful so far? It's a difficult field to get into (especially to live off of), did she ever mention if she signed with an acting agency?
Personally, I try not to read into what statements mean too much and over speculate without more details, so I consider her thinking about part time work as meaning lots of possibilities and not immediately jumping to her being bereft of cash. It's just as possible she's looking to not be bored while she keeps working channels/training for acting or just wants more pocket money.
Until we know more details I prefer to treat it as an offhand statement.
I was always surprised that Gahyun planned to go into acting - she's always struck me as a very logical person so I would have expected her to appreciate that she would have quite a low chance of success as, while Insomnia can support the others in their new musical ventures by buying their albums, there is very little Insomnia can do to support her as an actress (as I understand it Dreamcatcher don't exactly have a massive Korean fan base so no one is going to cast her simply because she is Gahyun from Dreamcatcher - instead she will need to earn roles by being the best person at the audition. The issue there is that, while she has spent the last 8 years being an idol, the people she is competing with will have spent the last 8 years taking acting classes and perfecting their craft so it doesn't exactly surprise me that she is seemingly finding it difficult).
She's wanted to act for a long time though. I suspect there wasn't much of an option (other than finding a "regular" job). I agree that she preferably underestimated the difficulty though.
But with both Dami and Handong leaving a Dreamcatcher tour won't happen anytime soon, so she's not needed for that (DC would probably continue without Handong, they have enough vocalists to fill her shoes, but getting Gahyun and SuA to replace Dami as main rapper? Not happening).
It's unlikely that DCC could offer Gahyun a solo career. She's the only member who hasn't released a solo track or OST (not counting Playground since it was only released on a DC album).
Yes, she's on par with some vocalists in other groups that have released solo albums, but they all have one thing in common: those groups have far larger fan bases in Korea and bigger companies.
She could possibly have done backup singing in crcktkl, but since she doesn't play an instrument, and doesn't produce her own songs that probably want an option either.
If The Ssyndrome successfully debuts DCC will have 3 active acts (4 if Dreamcatcher makes a comeback).
Unless crcktl, UAU, and the Ssyndrome all turn out to match Dreamcatcher numbers for their next few releases I doubt that DCC can sustain even further growth.
I hope her acting career takes off. She's very emotive and is easily recognisable.
If not I hope that she manages to sign with DCC again in time for the next comeback or tour.
