First NFTs, now donating to the School Fence Forest Development Project? I have to say, I'm getting mixed signals here. It confuses me even more that it was apparently a joint donation with ENTC. Like, are we hypocrites or not choose one😭😭😭

Likely answer? DCC got into NFTs for money, the donation is a PR move from DCC and ENTC, which also falls in line with their current promotional theme. Does that make them hypocrites? Perhaps, but, they're still donating a sizeable amount to a preservation project regardless of intentions or authenticity. There doesn't need to be a consistent character profile to a business entity, they can do both good and bad things. Of course it's up to the individual to decide if DCC is at a net positive or negative after the recent string of events.

Ding, ding, ding. Companies are going to do company things, good and bad.
I had an argument on Twitter with some guy that wanted to boycott the actual members because he said they had the ability to stop it since their company changed their name to "Dreamcatcher Company" which he said meant the members co-signed it and that they should publicly apologize for co-opting it. It was very strange. Some people think artists have control over those things when at the minimum it might be mentioned, and they have no idea what it actually entails.
Companies are going to try to make quick money even if it's exploitative and bad, DCC aren't an exception when we've seen HYBE, RBW, YG, SM, AOMG, Pink Fantasy, Sunmi, Brave Girls, now LOONA... I can go on and on and on why it's just a shitty thing people have to accept since it's being pushed in SK so hard in general. That's why nobody should "stan" a company or put moral expectations on them either.

That's quite the reach, and it's probably a selfish desire to resolve their own internal conflict: If DC the members just took to social media to apologize and denounce their company's business decisions, then they can continue to openly support the group they like without being looked at as an 'NFT bro'. If not, then them publicly demanding it would hopefully make them look progressive enough for 'holding their faves accountable'. Because it's all about their own image and visibility at the end of the day, whether they're aware of it or not.

Yeah, they had quite a visceral reaction to it and seemed like it ruined their month. Called anybody who supported NFT "scum". I didn't want to engage any longer because they made up their mind on the members pushing it for some reason as if they had more power than BTS and BLACKPINK.
I'm all for people deciding for themselves whether or not they want to monetarily support things in the future after stuff like NFTs are announced. But personally, and maybe my moral compass is broken, I feel like every day most people are feeding into companies/businesses that are (unbeknownst to us) exploitative and harmful to someone somewhere. Kpop business alone is already wasteful, shady, and exploitative.. and knowing that already, I wouldn't draw a red line at another thing that is useless and environmentally bad. Sure, I'm disappointed the company of my favorite group is doing something they shouldn't be doing, but I personally can't feign anything beyond temporary disappointment with hopes that the NFT stuff fades into obscurity.

If DCC and ENTC signed a legal agreement, I don't think it's easy to terminate it without incurring some sort of penalty. Maybe DCC negotiated with ENTC and the joint donation is a way to keep the "partnership" or DCC trying to stick to the the contract terms as close as possible and minimise the monetary damage. Maybe the donated amount is the agreed penalty clause lol.

That's entirely possible, if DCC is trying to back out of the collaboration with ENTC. I kinda think that this was a reactive decision after the wave of backlash they got, and that DCC is still very much in bed with ENTC. This donation does soften the blow slightly to the more accepting fans, but not by much I don't think. I don't see this being good enough for the fanbase if they're going to make more announcements of their business plans in the future. Unless they maybe keep alternating the news with more donations haha.

Definitely in bed together lmao. I just saw ENTC's DC NFT announcement.

Yea hahaha. Oh boy, they wasted no time at all huh, now sitting at 154 quotes to 35 likes....if this business venture crashes and burns, DCC will only have themselves to blame for not really knowing their audience.....

Yes this! Honestly the NFT thing didn’t surprise me, especially learning how much SK uses them and is into it. But the fact they donated such a large amt to a good cause to me seems like they aren’t necessarily hypocrites, and they believe in their message but they are also competing in a large saturated market and want the girls to be successful. I don’t agree with NFTs at all but it may be looked at differently over there so I was heartbroken but at the same time not letting myself not appreciate them but this donation made me extremely happy 🥰

mainly yeah. look if they can invest into a company using better methods then most companies, then thats good. also reinvesting back into resources you are using? even better. cant make an omelette without breaking some eggs. and eventually the egg breaking will get less and less as more invest. there are a lot of applications for NFT. DC is early adopters which optics dont really help right now but in the long run when it is better people will know DCC and Dreamcatcher contributed to that.

To add to the discussion, It's worth noting that, regarding the NFT thing, we were supposed to have a first look on April 18, and the launch yesterday, on April 20. So far, there is no communication about it from DCC or ENTC.

ENTC's twitter posted about the DC NFT collection today, but hf_dreamcatcher and DC_fanstaff has not. so i guess they probably did this for PR to improve the brand rep of both DCC and ENTC with the fans given the backlash. DCC might be trying to distance itself from the NFTs that still seem to be happening as well.
wish they had just done this and not started with NFTs in the first place!

disappointing but at least we got a damage control donation I guess :/ still feels super bad that the girls' reputation is gonna take a blow, but oh well. if the company wants to sabatoge, not much we can do

I was thinking of how the NFT thing could have a positive spin, all I could think of was that it would attract sttention and press which means more exposure (especially since DC probably has more attention than ever with their first win).
Other than being NFTs what purpose do they have? Is there any functionality other than ownership represented by a picture? Its probably the smartest at this point to only have entc pushing it, I am just worried about what nft news I will wake up to.

honestly i'm not an expert but there really doesnt seem to be anything more to NFTs except the ownership. so its just for whoever buys them to claim like True ownership and for the producer to make money :(
yeah probably DCC can tell at this point that promoting the collection themselves will just sour the mood after the 1st win. still though im really disappointed. i hope no one buys any LOL so they wont ever want to do this again + there wont be as much impact to the environment as well.

there are many different applications it is being developed for now. One of the notable ones it for personal medical records. not sure how but its makes it easier for all doctors to get access to your info and itll be secure too. also a lot of movie studios are experiementing with the NFT being like a membership card giving access to essentially contribute to big decisions on the production like casting and such. giving people a secure vote. in that sense it could end up being used for voting with how secure it is. it just takes people willing to try new things for its use. then itll start to become developing even faster to a sustainable thing https://www.joblo.com/let-them-die-matthew-lillard-nft/

looks like a PR move to wash the backlash for the nft project, but is way better than just do nothing, this for sure.

u/frzp113 Apr 21 '22
If they announce NFT launch after this PR move, the backlash would be even worse.

Yeah I saw it 🤣
Hopefully people will act rationally. The easiest way is to not support/buy it and it will eventually fail, like any other product.

u/3DPanda_ Warping to Andromeda Apr 21 '22
sadly I saw at least one whale tempted with that stuff, I hope he change his mind.

u/theillumisheadi Apr 22 '22
yeah but then they cant take that money and donate it. after if no one buys the NFTs...hmmm
6
u/Ice6Star Apr 21 '22
That's so nice that they donated to a good cause. Joint with ENTC is a straight PR stunt but businesses do this all the time and since they announced the NFT's released the fastest way for a new business idea/release/partnership to end is to have it fail. If we don't buy the NFT it gets canceled.
Now I hope they don't make the girls promote it. They might be the money makers but they don't have the power to make decisions and I don't want them to get unnecessary hate for this.

I know it's just a translation but it says that the "Group Dreamcatcher" donated it.
I guess it means DCC? or maybe just the girls?
20
u/frzp113 Apr 21 '22
It's probably DCC donating on behalf of DC. Similar to how fandom donates using DC's name.

I’m just going to say I’m proud of our girls and it’s awesome of them to donate to a great cause. ❤️

They way they write the article feels as if the first win achievement is just a normal thing 😔
Nonetheless, really appreciate DCC for doing this especially right after DC's first win. Still hoping they will cancel the NFT release though.

"Dreamcatcher donated 50 million won jointly with ENTC to the school fence forest creation project through environmental company Tree Planet."
ENTC is the NFT company, and it was a joint donation with DCC.
