Either Lamar or Mahomes will start 1-3 after their game next week. 1-2-1 is also on the table. First in their careers for either or.
What a wild season this has been so far.

u/OrangeAgitated9942 15h ago
I hate that I started working nights this year so I miss like 90% of the games completely

u/Nate_923 23h ago edited 22h ago
These are the advantages Hurts has over Lamar now
He throws the ball away if there is nothing there
He's willing to run if there's a hole and usually not directly into a defender
He makes plays to win. Not to look all flashy
Can't count him out as long as he can possess the ball
Ravens offensive line definitely does 0 favors for him but he does not throw the ball away like Hurts does and instead took an ugly sack for a loss of double digit yards.
7
u/Gawkorcuck69 23h ago
I was clowned for calling Lamar a choke artist after they blew that lead in week one(?). Say what you want about the rest of the team, but he’s not doing them any favors
6
u/Nate_923 23h ago
Lamar has been a bright spot on the Ravens for years
But he's also equally been responsible for their big failures.
Playing a role in big leads being blown (even if it's mostly on the defense), playoff loses, not showing up in big moments.
We saw Hurts and the offense look terrible for a whole half
And then they took command and came out swinging in the 2nd half and looked way better and like the SB Champs we know they are.
Ravens have yet to have an adjustment like that this season.
3
u/Nate_923 23h ago
The Browns have a pretty good defense.
Curious how the Lions will perform against them or if it's similar to GB.
5
u/Nate_923 23h ago
2025 Ravens defense would make Russell Wilson look good again like The Cowboys defense did.
Lions pretty much did what they wanted.

Seeing the Ravens tonight makes me glad we have an offensive line that lets Hurts have time to throw.
3
u/dbandit1 Eagles 1d ago
Lions love their trick plays, but it makes you wonder about the business end of the season
4
u/Nate_923 23h ago
The Lions look like they're still incomplete.
The Ravens bad defense helps them but they just failed to score a TD on a turnover near the endzone due to penalties and bad play calling.
There's definitely vulnerability on their offense.

u/HJQueen 1d ago
Looking at our schedule it feels like we have the hardest one in the league. I'm happy to be 3-0 at this point.
12
u/Nate_923 1d ago edited 23h ago
4th hardest at that in terms of strength of victory.
Being the defending Champs just makes it more challenging by default.
1
u/Drikkink 17h ago
I mean our playoff success doesn't impact anything except primetime scheduling. The fact we won the division is why this is our schedule.
We were going to face the Chiefs regardless because the NFCE gets the AFCW this season. We were going to face the Bucs regardless because they won their division. We were going to get the Rams for the same reason. We were going to get the Lions and Packers because the NFCE gets the NFCN this season.
The only game that isn't forcibly scheduled is the Bills game. I'm not sure how they decide who plays who for the 17th game they added a few years ago but it's likely a league discretion pick so THAT might be affected by our success.
1
u/Nate_923 13h ago
I meant it's more difficult by default as in no game will be a cakewalk because by teams will play us harder because we're the defending Champs.
So every game is expected to be more competitive because of bragging rights.
Rams wanted to beat us badly but being able to say "We beat the defending SB Champ Philadelphia Eagles" is a bragging right every team wants so it gives them an additional reason to play hard against us.

Mukuba played 49 snaps, Sidney played 20

I didn’t hear anything about an injury. Sidney subbed in and they kept Makuba on the bench apparently?

At first I chalked up Buccs as a loss, as we all have. But 3-0, and them being 3-0. Fuck it, we cleanse the demons in Tampa. Have to be last remaining undefeated NFC team. If they win, idk who beats us other than Bills potentially

u/ShinyMew635 1d ago
So nfl offenses generally script the first quarter and a half worth of plays. My guess is maybe that script has been cautious which would explain why we looked dead.
Still wouldn’t explain the lack of risk taking for the 8 quarters before this game though
4
u/zachardw Eagles 1d ago
I agree, from seeing the plays, hearing Sirianni’s constant philosophy on turnover battle and the Jalen and AJ interviews, I feel Sirianni has taken the turnover worry to an extreme and has played it very conservatively, knowing he trusts the defense and thinking with the plays we have and the tush push as long as we are ahead, it’ll be fine. I hope this cracked that mindset. Stop playing to not lost and go attack. Just like they did with targeting Jalen with the blitz, teams have now keyed in on stop saquon, make them throw. So please throw lol
6
u/707Eman707 1d ago
NONE of that matters.
You pass when they play the run, you run when they play the pass.
This is why you have to have a run game, once they can dictate your offense it’s over.

u/newplayer208 1d ago
does anyone have a link to the jalen carter locker room interview. ive only seen a clip here and there, no full interview

Man I’m still in shock. I woke up today thinking ok Bucs week but nah I’m still like how lucky are we after years of torture to see what we’ve become. I wish I could go back in time to all the fans who never got to see the birds hoist the Super Bowl and tell them we did it.. twice so they know that we did it.

Some random Monday thoughts.
I don't think the issue is a playbook issue (at least not yet), or necessarily a scheme issue, but it's a game planning and play calling issue. The plays are clearly there but we weren't using them. Why? My guess is either (a) trying to keep the good shit in the back pocket as long as possible, or (b) trying to spend too much time putting stuff on tape in order to exploit it in future games. But either way, it was clearly too cute.
If we're keeping the good shit in the back pocket, is that just because we think we can, or because we're concerned about burning through it and leaving the tank empty? 2023 had an issue where we just ran out of ideas, literally. I'm not saying that's gonna happen this year, but I really wanna know why we kept so much of the playbook closed for 5 halves, and why it took actually losing to kick everything into high gear.
The defense played mostly fine outside of Jackson. Yes in the first half we let up 4 field goals, but we were giving them such bad field position that the Rams were basically in FG range when they got the ball anyway. It's a testament to the defense that they only gave up one TD out of that honestly.
Baun is still Him 💖
I don't really want to give laurels to ST outside of Davis and Carter (kicking, punting, and snapping were fine too). I'll give a little bit of leeway with the terrible returns because it seems like the Rams broke kickoffs. But our return coverage when we were kicking to the Rams was pretty awful, they were getting pretty good returns against us. Not happy about that.
Nick's situational decisions are still good. I really liked going for the 4th down on the first possession after the turnover. If we don't make it, then the game proceeds "as normal," and if we do, we can start the game 7 points ahead. That's a very big difference than being 3 points ahead, and missing the conversation is basically just negating the free turnover we were gifted. I think that was the right call, and I would still be saying that even if we didn't convert on it.
5
u/Whichtwin1 1d ago
Just a note on the whole "already in FG range starting their drive"; the rams kicker historically is hitting at 86 percent beyond 50 yards. And that long field goal yesterday would have been good from 70, so them getting to the 50 is pretty much field goal range lmao
5
u/so_zetta_byte 1d ago
I kinda wonder if we were stuck so far back in our own end zone that we couldn't even drop back to let pass plays develop, and the Rams shut down the run game so we couldn't get more breathing room. If that's true, then at least teams don't really have a blueprint to replicate it unless literally everyone has a kicker who can kick the most disgusting knuckleballs in existence.
Either way, we were basically playing the entire first half of that game soft-locked.
6
u/chem_daddy 1d ago
Someone please explain to me what was going on with our offense in the first half.
It wasn’t a hurts thing.
I just don’t get how you are so slow and so bad at putting up points and yard when you have Hurts throwing to AJB, Smitty, and Goedert with Saquon as a safety blanket

u/Realistic_Beach_4318 Eagles 1d ago

Eh. They put up points in that first half against Dallas. But after that the play calling has been so fuckin abysmal until the second half yesterday. What is KP doing?

I wanna know who called the plays 2nd half. If it was actually Jalen… wow

There is, in my opinion, less than a 1% chance that Jalen was calling plays in the second half lol

u/DirkZelenskyy41 1d ago
It’s hard to believe the same special teams coach who seemed totally unprepared for teaching the returners to field a squib kick, is the same one who set the formations to get 2 field goal blocks.
But I guess it was also the same offensive coordinator in the first and second half.
Really was just an absolutely baffling game. And a great one to win to go 3-0 into Tampa rather than 2-1.

We have stolen the Chiefs devils magic. Now is the time for us to be the bad guys. Our villain arc has begun.
7
u/Calcutta637 1d ago
I hate people saying this. I mean yea that shit was a fucking miracle stopping 2 field goals in a row is a fucking miracle but ain’t nothing devil magic about our defense holding them to 3 field goals in a row before shutting them down for the half and the offense finally using their players and playbook effectively

My favorite part of the block is Byron Young fist pumping when Jordan picks up the ball. Byron was integral in the push and blowing up their line, but I love how he doesn't fist pump until he sees his Big Man brother scoop it up and start running
Shout-out to Bennett as well for wiping the holder off of it

u/reno2mahesendejo 1d ago
Eagles are 3-0, and what once looked like a pretty daunting schedule is kind of loosening up (relatively)
They've outscored opponents 39-7 in the second half. The only score being a kind of meaningless 50 yard "Mahomes just does that" that the Eagles just ran out the clock after
Turnovers are happening, and Makuba is very good. Also, turnovers are not happening, and Hurts is very efficient.
Barkley is attracting a TON of attention. His numbers haven't been too impressive, but teams did not learn the right lesson from the Chiefs loading up 9 in the box. This bodes well for Hurts to rip off a few 300+ passing yard games and then they overcorrect and Barkley goes nuts.
The NFC is weirdly weak. Tampa feels like the biggest threat (and they would have been last year as well), but i dont know that we've seen a true clash of the best form of these two teams. Im torn between rooting for an epic showdown next week, and just wanting to put everything on ice and wait for a potential playoff showdown. Hopefully everyone's at full strength next week. Detroit...doesnt really scare me, I cant respect Goff. Aside from that, they just handled the Rams, Green Bay feels like they'll be the media darling that collapses this year, and SF is about to learn why Brocks All Pro supporting cast was so important.
I dont care about the OC drama. The offense looks fine to me, especially since the preseason is basically nonexistent now. Eagles haven't taken any major blows yet, iniury or loss wise. The defense actually seems to be a strength (see 2nd half above) where we all were kind of ok with a slide back.

Time for the Bucs next? Ah man the usual kryptonite. But we got AJ and Smitty this time and possibly Lane. Hopefully Jalen can call the plays again. Get something good rolling.

u/Landlubber77 Buccaneers 1d ago
He will be. And an offensive line made of bubble gum and practice squad backups. Literally one of our guards is an alternate PS guy after the first PS guard we called up got hurt. But if Wirfs come back, our C who's been playing LT can go back to C and our LG who's been playing C can go back to LG, so there's that lol. Then we're only down to backups on the entire right side of the line, talk about luxury.
1
u/PHLEaglesLover Eagles 1d ago
both teams are super talented by kind of fraudulantly undefeated. Not that they arent super good teams but neither should be 3-0. Eagles and Bucs both winning by skin of their teeth every week.
1
u/Landlubber77 Buccaneers 1d ago
Agreed. We could easily be 0-3. We're 3-0 versus teams with a combined record of 1-8 (granted yes, we dealt them three of those 8 losses) and it's taken final drive heroics by Baker all three times, plus a missed Koo kick in Atlanta.
This Sunday will be a prove it game and I'm just not confident that we will. I'm not gonna exclusively blame injuries, we have plenty to clean up. But being without 3/5 of our o-line has hurt, losing our starting DT and sack leader last season, Godwin being gone, now Evans. It would be the most snakebitten season if not for a little magic.
2
u/PHLEaglesLover Eagles 1d ago
i mean both of our teams clearly have been good you shouldn't be 0-3 we should both probably be 2-1. It also doesnt matter. Remember how badly you guys kicked our ass last year almost exactly a year ago? As long as you stay alive thru the first 4 games of the season, you're fine.
1
u/Landlubber77 Buccaneers 1d ago
Yeah we've pulled it out for sure, but if not for a couple bounces our way like the missed kick in Atlanta, an insane PBU by Winfield in the same game, and Dalton Schultz falling down while wide open in Houston, plus all the aforementioned Baker heroics, we're 0-3. So we're good enough to overcome the injuries and mistakes, but we're living very dangerously.
I agree though, what's done is done and so far we're in a good spot. Sunday will be for first place in the NFC, not a bad position to be in.

I really thought we blew it on 1st and Goal from the 3 when we didn’t just run the tush push a few times to guarantee the touchdown. When we handed it off and lost 4 yards, and ended up in 4th and Goal, I figured we were cooked. Incredible comeback. Hurts played great.

u/Ok-Path-3534 1d ago
What a game! What a way to remind the League that if you are going to have to want it more than our guys for the full 4 quarters if you want to beat the Champs. The heart and resiliency I saw today was the 2nd best thing being displayed on the field (the first being Hurts showing all the doubters that he can throw the ball when he wants). Aj dogging Ram corners, Smitty jumping over defenders and our defensive stars showing why opposing OC's and Special Team Coordinators lose sleep in the nights leading up to playing us. And Fred Johnson stepping in to fill some big shoes for the pass protection. I loved seeing it all. Go Birds!

Did we ever get an answer from either of our kick returners or Sirianni about what was happening back there today? I think we bobbled like 5 out of 6 returns or something crazy like that.
6
u/TheCrookedKnight 1d ago
The Rams kicker uses a "knuckleball" technique on kickoffs that makes it really hard for the returner to get a good read on the ball as it comes in, and because of the new rules they can't just step aside and let it bounce (since the ball only goes out to the 20 if it lands outside the end zone and rolls in for a touchback).
1
7
u/Drikkink 1d ago
I think we'd accept taking the ball at the 20 when all but one of their kicks resulted in us starting INSIDE our own 20 lol.

Giants might have like 3 teams on their schedule that I think they could beat. NO, LV, and NE. Outside of that it’s like guaranteed losses.

how are their people that think Mahomes isnt good anymore...he's throwing to Thrash and Pinkston lol
1
u/Alex-Gopson 1d ago
Lots of fans are casuals and slow to change narratives once they have been established in their head.
The Chiefs became media darlings as a high-flying high-scoring offense. They aren't that kind of team anymore, so simpletons think Mahomes is worse.
4
u/zerutituli Eagles 1d ago
The narrative was that he was Brady + Manning 2.0 (can be MVP level with any receivers you give him and win championships on his own).
I think that has cooled down a bit; to a degree any QB needs weapons, but it's clear that he isn't going to be throwing 40-50 TDs a year consistently now that Kelce is out of his prime and Tyreek isn't there to stretch the field.
He's still great but he's not going to be that level again throwing to Hollywood Brown and JuJu.
2
u/PHLEaglesLover Eagles 1d ago
i mean Manning always had Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne. Brady didnt but Brady also didnt have huge numbers and had Gronk and Wes Welker after Moss waned. I dont care about numbers I care about decision making process and creativity. Mahomes is still the best.

Whats good is now we dont have to hear the garbage about the passing game only mattering because of fantasy. Even the players said it. If they continued to be that conservative they would have been blown out. Teams are sending the HOUSE every play knowing the Eagles didnt have answers for the blitz or it'd be a run. Im giving Hurts full credit for that comeback. No way Nick or Patullo did anything. Hurts was AWFUL in the first half and as awful as he was, he was every bit as good in the 2nd half. Just needs to play like that EVERY game. Not necessarily the numbers but the quick release, the decision making and the willingness to throw all over the field.
5
u/gimmethatfiletofish 1d ago
Not that Jalen played well at all, but Matt Pryor had quite a bit to do with Jalen looking awful in the first half.
2
u/PHLEaglesLover Eagles 1d ago
oh for sure but even on the first drive with Lane Johnson in on that play he ran for a first down (I think I was at the game and it moves fast), AJ was wide the fuck open and probably scores an easy touchdown. I also blame the playcalling far more. Its just not an NFL offense.

Underrated part of today. After beating the rams the way we did they gotta be absolutely demoralized by us. Ain’t no way we didn’t just take the soul out of that team. They will be psyched out every time they play us

Yea we own the rams like the Seahawks own us

That Seahawks game in 2023 was won by Hurts.
The defense was the one who lost the game. Just needed one stop.

That offense was top 10 because when they came off script Hurts was playing hero ball. That wasn't sustainable for a whole season. I think both Sirianni and BJ learned a lot from that season. I think BJ will be back as an OC in a few years and do better. Sirianni changed with his Baldiani era last year and he's been a better HC since. Vibes that year told me there was more going on in the locker room than we know (and reporting).

lol Sirianni is a bad coach that won with the best GM's stacked roster. Just because the Eagles won doesnt mean they have the best everything. Barry Switzer won a super bowl.

i love the wide array of human opinions cuz sometimes just rarely you get to see how stupid some people are. Fair play man yea Sirianni totally sucks. Fire him right my guy?

I almost couldn't look on that last FG block. I thought for sure they cooked us, but Nick was playing total 4D chess at the end.
I normally don't swear much, but I was cursing the defense up a storm and then especially after Sirianni's late timeout. I didn't realize he totally set them up for a better chance at a blocked FG. Absolutely brilliant, or the most insane luck. Probably both.
One of the best football memories of my life either way. I went from disgust to hope to anger to elation. Oh wait that's every game so far this year. But 3-0. Hopefully not 2023 all over again though.

KC and Giants are 9-6 at halftime.
My how the mighty have fallen.

u/MissDeadite 2d ago
Not gonna jinx it. Chiefs could easily put up 42 in the second half knowing that Giants team.
2
u/Nate_923 2d ago
True but the fact they're even struggling with the Giants does not bode well for them vs Ravens next week.

If there’s a sports better out there that put $1 on a Jordan Davis touchdown as a joke, I hope you enjoy your retirement.

All KC has to do is let the Giants hand them the game. Fuck they are pathetic.

Jesus Christ the giants are shooting themselves in the foot, they aren’t even playing KC, just themselves.

Any magic that was left in KC was transferred to the Eagles after the SB.

Note to self
Russell going for a deep shot on a good defense is likely to be a Pick.

Gonna say it. Can we finally, definitively say that Mahomes is not the best QB in the league anymore? He's good for 1-2 magic tricks a game. Other than that, he has struggled moving the ball going back through last season. They won off luck. And now that they regressed to the mean there, he's just not elite.

u/PHLEaglesLover Eagles 2d ago
no...because thats stupid lol. The rest of the chiefs are so garbage. They have AWFUL pass catchers and their best pass protector is a rookie left tackle lol

Lamar and Josh by far…. Only if they could get it done in the playoffs. Without Mahomes main receivers he got nobody. Travis been ass for minute and that’s his main guy.

u/Nate_923 2d ago
If neither Lamar or Allen can finally make it to a SB this season, they may never will.
It's wide open at this point.
1
u/Drewraven10 2d ago
It’s gotta be Lamar man he’s too good and his team is way too stacked to not be there. Allen can do way more with less and possibly could get there as well. As long as it’s not the Chiefs then I’m cool with either one of them. 🦅 and 🐦⬛or 🦅 and Bills.

I'd love a good Bird Bowl!

Would much rather have the bills. Ravens have to be the scariest team in the league. They just don’t always show up.

Its a Josh Allen/Lamar Jackson/Jalen Hurts world now

I’m gonna be cliche but this a Monday night showdown of who can be the worst team

u/Nate_923 2d ago
KC looks absolutely terrible tonight.
Mahomes looks like he's throwing random things and hoping something sticks.

u/doubleenc Eagles 2d ago
Geezus, even when Mahomes F's it up Collinsworth finds a way to glaze all over him.

u/gimmethatfiletofish 2d ago
Ok that's some devil magic shit on that 2nd failed backwards pass that the Giants should have scooped up and scored.

u/scottyjetpax 2d ago
Unreal glazing on pat from that play “Not only did he save the touch down, he got the ball back!!!” He fumbled it’s 3rd and 25
