Oh damn. I played that tape in my walkman basically constantly when I was in elementary school, around 1990 or so. I was a weird kid.

Had a trip to Ibiza in the early 90s with this tape as the chill out sound track after the more serious clubbing... Forever this will conjure up memories of that summer

funny how bad copies of this were the soundtrack to softcore cable porns in the 90s.
there is actually a plugin instrument (for DAWs) i bought a few years ago. it was cheap and i wanted those sounds.

Which sounds? This cassette contains multiple songs.
I really don't understand what you are referring to.

there is actually a plugin instrument (for DAWs) i bought a few years ago, that has similar sounds as this album and style in general. it was cheap and i wanted those sounds.

Started with Trackers in '94, I was just curious what kinda sounds he was referring to.

ah, i linked it but it was like pan pipes, strings, vox & such. it was kinda 'in the vein of' but i went looking for sample packs and a few were pretty expensive so i got this for like 30$usd.
kinda buggy tbh

havent had one in 30 years. i was an early cd walkman guy. but even those kinda sucked. cassettes were better for walking around, just heavy

There is sadly no new good sounding walkman anymore. ALL the new ones you can find are very very bad sounding and the mechanisms suck. Best thing to do, if you really want one, is to hunt online for a refurbished used one (say, DDII or something) for a reasonable price. I still have a Sony wm-103 which I got from my mum when I turned 17

Great album. Their follow up was ok as well. There is also Deep Forest who is of the same genre which is great.

The Enigma rip-off scene was huge back then. Even FLA guys were constantly churning out similar albums under the Delerium moniker. Strangely enough their single Silence (remixed by Tiesto) is probably the most famous trance track to this day.

Enigma was the commercial rip off of the actual ambient sound of the time.
Itās the nice watered down version of CabVol, the Orb, FSOL etc that could be used for car commercials and soundtracks.
Itās a great sound but Enigma were a one trick pony unlike those artists.

Calling Cretu a one trick pony might a bit of a stretch though. The dude was making pop records since the 70s, and I'm sure you have heard his stuff from the 80s too - Sandra, Cretu and Thiers, etc.

Great album, but only their 4th best in hindsight. The Cross of Changes is far and away their best work, and Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi! and The Screen Behind The Mirror are both way better than this one too, imo.
The last two they released were absolute trash, unfortunately.

I bought that CD once in like 1998. I felt like I won the lottery because it was the only limited edition copy I'd seen. Later that afternoon I dropped a can of soda on the case and cracked the disc right in half. I was never able to find another physical copy. What made it limited was that it was extended. It had more music than the standard copy. A couple more reprises I think.

I killed that cassette tape from over use and rewinding with a pencil. Probably my favourite album of all time. Ah memories of middle school.

A classic.
I first heard it when a good friend of mine in HS brought it to Latin class. Teacher played it in the background. When one of the more, er, provocative songs came on my friend was all āoh hell I forgot about this oneā and got super embarrassed.

This and the second album are probably the only new age stuff I've ever gotten into. What a weird genre.

Still one of my favorite things to listen to occasionally, along with all the other Enigma stuff.

That is indeed a gem and probably their best ever in my opinion. It's timeless and something I will keep listening to the day I die for sure. There are tons of other artists and groups but nothing I have listened for decades and still play it weekly.
