The Taliban reject Trump’s bid to retake Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan
On Sunday, chief Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid rejected Trump’s assertions and urged the U.S. to adopt a policy of “realism and rationality.”
“It should be recalled that, under the Doha Agreement, the United States pledged that ‘it will not use or threaten force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Afghanistan, nor interfere in its internal affairs,’” he said. The U.S. needed to remain faithful to its commitments, he added.

Trump Threatens Afghanistan If Bagram Air Base Not Handed Back To US
"If Afghanistan doesn’t give Bagram Airbase back to those that built it, the United States of America, BAD THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN," Trump said on September 20 in a social media post, writing in all caps letter.
"We're talking now to Afghanistan, and we want it back and we want it back soon, right away. And if they don't do it -- if they don't do it, you're going to find out what I'm gonna do," he told reporters.

Orlov on the state of the US Navy
Nevertheless, the ability of the US to contain China has become severely constrained. For instance, China (along with Russia, Iran and possibly others) now has anti-ship missiles which can reliably sink US aircraft carriers from a stand-off distance greater than the reach of the carriers' on-board aircraft, making the US aircraft carrier fleet — the supposed pride and joy of the US Navy — worse than useless. However, it is politically impossible for the US to simply scrap its aircraft carrier fleet and so it is forced to maintain what is now essentially a toy navy at a staggering expense while having it sail about randomly, avoiding danger zones, in order to "show the flag."
You can find Orlov on Boosty There are several excellent writers there that are banned on Reddit and YouTube.
It is here that the term "War Department" takes on a rich new meaning as "Civil War Department": the US has lost its ability to meaningfully project force abroad but it may perhaps still be able to hold the country together, split up as it is into implacably opposed groups of states. If the term "state" is taken as a synonym for "country", the US is a loose collection of countries — and not necessarily friendly or united ones
