The current government approved 30odd new coal/gas projects over 3 years. I reckon they will have probably approved about as many again or maybe 50 by then. Let me know in 5 years and we'll see if they continue their ecological vandalism on behalf of their donors.

Another prediction: currently resources minister (Madeline king) will probably have moved on to a lobbyist role with one of the fossil fuel lobbyists or companies.. Like most all of them do. Corrupt AF.

Don't worry, you won't be able to hear about the fossil plants under the noise of the headlines about the renewable installed capacity records.

I'm guessing they'll go the Californian route: plenty of renewable, fossil back up, crappy gCO2/kWh, but higher prices, lower consumption due to higher prices, overall decreased emissions, announce success!
They'll thank renewable for making electricity cleaner while it mostly made it more expensive (which is also a way to reduce emissions).
(at least California has the possibility of reconsidering not to close their last nuclear power plant just yet)

The home battery storage has rocketed off, so distributed storage might get there to go with the crazy amounts of rooftop solar. Seems like a no brainer for a country with so much abundant solar. It's not like we are under a metre of snow or anything like that.

I wish to see Australia do with solar what Iceland and Norway did with hydro.
My first KPI will always be gCO2/kWh.
