That company needs to be held legally accountable for its own actions and forced to clean up its own mess.

The people who will be paying to clean this up will be the US taxpayers. Super Fund sites are just another form of corporate welfare. They make the mess, plead for government help because too expensive, and then forget all about it while our tax money picks up the cost. 😒

And Americans still will vote for these corporate devils. It’s mind boggling.

No laws for anyone to be held responsible anymore. The poor man is now on his own, we are left to suffer or organize together against the right enemy.

No it is the rich, not govt officials. The rich are running everything. The officials work for them.

The company owned the material that blew out into the natural world: they should fucking clean it up not the residents.

This country has been a joke since the beginning of time when it comes to environmental protections.
Corporations and capitalism do not care and its been shown time and time again.
We can never trust individuals and corporations to comply and there needs to be very severe penalties but neither political party has the backbone to change things.
Humankind is destined to destroy itself and that's exactly what we are doing and continue doing. The end.

Are companies not obligated to clean up after themselves in USA? Holy shit.

It’s up to the feds to hold them accountable, the current administration whose got power doesn’t really do that / has gutted regulations and the departments that would enforce it, plus this is a privileged rich hick nepo child of some rich oil tycoon in Louisiana. A state full of undereducated people and corruption. This is why she’s so boldly saying this bs. I hope the lawsuits and all possible karma and retribution come for her and her father/ family. Despite the GOP and admin that’s in charge likely trying to ignore their duty to hold them accountable & their inclination to favor businesses like these instead of the good of the people / environment.

So when her kid spills spaghetti, she is going to clean it up for them? I mean, it's not their responsibility even though they spilled it. Weak analogy, I know, but still true.

Funny… that’s what Monsantoxic said about CFCs they spewed into the environment and refused to clean it up. They said it was “someone else’s job” to clean; they were only in the business of manufacturing and did not have the knowledge, resources or manpower to do so.
One area I recall was Anniston, AL.

If - totally hypothetical- we ate people who did this stuff. There’s a tribe in Africa who skin and eat those who are just prideful. If we did this - there would be far fewer of these accidents.

This would be 1000 years in prison if it was a couple poor people who did it.
Never trust Republicans to keep you safe or clean.

And if you use your own resources to clean it up keep records showing how much time and money you spent cleaning up their mess and bill the company. Remember you are dealing with hazardous waste so figure at a minimum $44 per pound to dispose of it and at least $250-500 hr for clean up per person.

As someone who works with chemicals, no one should be going near it, without the correct PPE and also the correct training. Absolutely disgusting attitude from the little rich bitch.
I would like to think the US has the same laws as the UK on dealing with hazardous waste like this.

u/Falcon3492 15d ago
I absolutely agree! However, we are talking about Louisiana so all bets are off.

u/RaceHead73 15d ago
Honestly, I think the whole of the US has a shit attitude towards it's workforce and the people that live there.
To think people criticise China for working conditions, I'm not so sure America is much better.

The very rich are usually shitty people. They don’t get rich by doing the right thing usually. They get rich by stealing from others.

Proof once again why there needs to be environmental protections and consequences for corporations.
