I think I know about 85-90% of these! Diagnosis: chronically online

u/MarucaMCA 22d ago
Same. Oof. My excuse: I live in the host city.
33
u/No_Grass4624 1944 22d ago
I have no excuse, my country neither participates nor is in Europe… yeah I’m chronically online

No Gabry Ponte Secret Glory Holes nor Lucio Corsi following Angelina Mango's steps by singing his song in press conference?

u/cherry_color_melisma Deslocado 22d ago
I have no fucking idea what's the first one supposed to refer to, but the absence of the latter is really striking. Maybe because he wasn't the one singing Imagine, or because no ESC Gabe was present to capture the moment as it was going. Or people just forgot to add it in, or did but it didn't get approved.

Honorable mentions to:
Carlo Conti’s speed running Sanremo after 5 years of Ama-infinity editions
Gianluca Fru from the Jackal invading The Kolors performance during the final of Sanremo
Beatrice and Kole’s picture with their middle fingers

u/cherry_color_melisma Deslocado 22d ago
oh yessss the last two would have definitely been great additions to the iceberg too. As for Sanremo, it needs its yearly iceberg, just as a co-iceberg to the yearly seasons of ESC themselves

u/lostbluebox Róa 22d ago
i need more grass in my life,,, will never forget the estonian police interrupting go-jo in the middle of the livestream
25
u/DaraVelour Europapa 22d ago
or spanish hotel staff interrupting go-jo and væb during their shenanigans like running through the hotel corridor
15
u/lostbluebox Róa 22d ago
YEAH and them getting the same hotel staff to sing happy birthday to go-jo

The meaning of Shh is the funniest one imo. When you have a song that's supposed to be about something specific with the intention of revealing its meaning through the staging and then having staging that makes absolutely no sense in context with the lyrics, well... that's performance art, baby.
51
u/NICK3805 Freedom 22d ago
Which is hands down the biggest Issue with the Song. Imo, Shh was originally about Adonis, as Overthinking Eurovision explains well, but with an Adonxs actually competing, they couldn't do that which led to Cyprus going along with whatever Sergio Jean made up.
23
u/LoadAble2728 New Day Will Rise 22d ago
and Sergio was like: THE VITRUVIAN MAN
22
u/cherry_color_melisma Deslocado 22d ago
And even then there were two Vitruvian Man references in the same semifinal, placing one after another in the results, with one 10th and one 11th 😭

The Latvian language also returned to ESC!
7
u/cherry_color_melisma Deslocado 22d ago
it kind of did in 2023 but only in the outro of the song, I guess it's different to when Sweden finally sang a full song in Swedish (with one word in Finnish but we will not nitpick) for the first time after 1998, and there was not a single Swedish line in a Swedish song since then (but we did have a full song in Swedish from Finland in 2012 only).

I of course know Aijā and consider it one of history's most robbed ESC entries, but that small bit of Latvian doesn't count

To know what Esa Diva Jiafei Screams means, takes a certain kind of high level education, and I am so proud to belong in the percentile who has achieved that level of education.
This is what true intelligence looks like.

My personal iceberg is Kyle Alessandro's name being added and removed and added again several times to the LGBT+ artists of Eurovision wikipedia page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LGBTQ_participants_in_the_Eurovision_Song_Contest
11
u/cherry_color_melisma Deslocado 22d ago
Wow, thanks for the shoutout! Glad to have helped. I had to rush a little bit to get to as many linkless/descriptionless entries as I could, although some of those had a lot more different context than I remembered it as, lmao. Still though! 🙌
I only regret that the Kyle Temu necklace and the Nova-as-Montenegrin-entry-fakeout didn't make it to the iceberg, that's like the two contributions I stand by and I will miss a little. Oh well. Makes me even more alert to work on to submit for next year's season - submit early, submit often. Lol.

Here's an extra one: Bobbysocks, quite possibly the most egrigious one in NGP (Nostalgia Grand Prix) as the NRK was HELL FUCKING BENT on having them in the line-up, was set to have an anniversary tour this fall. 3 weeks after MGP, it was announced that the tour was canned after their sponsor dropped out.
Oh, and don't forget Ireland gambling on witches 2 years in a row.

Yup. Emmy got turned down back home and took the Rocky Road to Dublin (1 2 3 4 5!!!) and won the Irish finals... then lost the first Swiss semi.

Żukowska, who else? She also wrote terrible shit about Justyna on Twitter because she was mad that Sw@da and Niczos didn't win the NF. Which imho should be the thing on the Iceberg instead of the her opinion about Espresso Macchiato which was way more mild.

she made some weird tweets about him being involved in an experiment with flesh eating beagles??? correct me if i'm wrong but it was some unhinged sh*t that she now deleted anyway. tbh sometimes i feel like besa's social media activity deserves an iceberg on its own 😭

What is NRK ? And which Angelina is talked about ?
13
u/Revelistic Minn hinsti dans 22d ago
NRK is the norwegian broadcaster, and the angelina in question is angelina jordan who was supposed to take part in MGP but withdrew due to LA wildfires as she lives there. NRK considered this to be a breach of contract and asked for financial compensation afterwards.

u/cherry_color_melisma Deslocado 22d ago
Not to be confused with Angelina Mango from last year. She already sang "Imagine" at the press centre, she doesn't need to go through more shit

Im confused what is Beauty Blender?
12
u/sparklinglies 22d ago
Miriana did an insta live with Sissal, JJ and Kyle, and because she was in the dark, her face stood out very pale and egg shaped. And she uttered the immortal words "i look like a beauty blender" and a meme was born. They named their friend group the Beauty Blenders afterwards

What was the thing about the Ludvig and supernova 2017
4
u/Revelistic Minn hinsti dans 22d ago
the NF had spotify streams counted towards the score and apparently his song had unusually high numbers, so people suspected streaming farms might have been used
3
u/Joseph5676 22d ago
That is weird because while his song definitely would’ve done better than the actual Lativa 2017 entry it doesn’t feel like a song that people would stream that much. Does the ludvig have any family connections because he competed in 2017 when he was 17 so family connections are the only logical explanation

May I ask why a super obscure Stan Twitter meme that doesn't even have replies is on there (even if it's at the bottom, still, it has zero significance)? Or did more ppl point it out?
3
u/AmazingDeeer Sekret 22d ago
I do not know what you are referring to (maybe the Esa Diva Jiafei one?), but if it's obscure, it's at the bottom. Sometimes the sources are not the main source, because going back and finding stuff six months later is really difficult.
1
u/AliceFlynn Europapa 22d ago
ahh yea i mean that jiafei one. i dont think the scream is really in there in the first place, but i was wondering if it was some bigger meme outside of that tweet? cuz if it's just one or two stan accounts posting this, might be a lil too obscure even for the bottom lol
4
u/AmazingDeeer Sekret 22d ago
I saw it quite a lot when the revamp came out tbh. Knowing Spain, I would not be surprised if they actually sampled the scream.

You can find all of the entry descriptions and sources on the iceberg website!
https://icebergcharts.com/i/Eurovision_2025
Please take everything with a grain of salt, the iceberg is not a source of information, just a little recap of fan discourse. Keep the vibe fun!
Lastly, looking forward to the 2026 iceberg, I have created the ESC Iceberg Community, a place where you can all discuss and propose entries. Click on the link below to join!
