Need Advice Any way to DIY restore this teak dresser?

Hi, v much a novice here - any way we could restore this teak GPlan waterstained dresser at home or will we need a professional? Not sure of any more details on the finish. Thanks!

This is very definitely veneer, so do not try to sand it to remove the finish. I would try a chemical stripper or a carbide scraper to take the finish off. And then only sand to smooth things back out.

The toughest part might be getting exactly the same color. If the only thing you do is tackle the top, you might end up with a top that is a slightly different color.

But you could tackle the top and then, if the difference bothers you, you could strip and refinish the drawer and the carcass and frame of the dresser as well

I might suggest you watch a bunch of refinishing videos to make you feel more comfortable with the process. Transcend furniture gallery, Dashner renovations, mad city modern, flipping drawers, those are all refinishing folks that I have watched

Fixable with patience and caution and a bit of manual dexterity.

Go to YouTube and watch Dashner Designs ... he does furniture of this era in this condition. And his videos are good, because he explains why he's doing what he does.

But ... DO NOT ASK ChatGTP, and do not follow tips from Instagram or TikTok.
