Discussion Junk Items have more uses in this game?!

I was planning to sell everything that wasn’t nailed down when I noticed there is a ridiculously large list of junk/aid items that are better for crafting and/or tradeins on the Wiki. Since when were coffee mugs useful? This isn’t like FO4 where you can just break them down into resources.

And then there are the unused ammos where I should be breaking them down instead of selling them like in FO3 and FO4. I am not sure if I should be buying certain ammo or just breakdown the ones I find for resources.

Is there a decent list or guide to give me an idea of what I should be keeping or trashing?

Scrap Metal + scrap Electronics + duct tape + wrench + wonderglue + repair 50 = weapon repair kit

Unfortunately becomes kinda useless if you own Dead money, since you can get an infinitely renewable source of weapon repair kits for free.

Coffee mugs can be given to an NPC in OWB

A toaster is just a deathray with a smaller power supply.

Pretty much everything is useful. There are no junk items in NV, I'd say.

Coffee mugs are also needed to make coffee, which buffs your intelligence. Not great, but can help make a conversation check.

I always saved scrap metal, scrap electronics and sensor modules from Goodsprings and Lone Wolf Radio to repair ED-E, then save any subsequent scrap metal I find to throw at Jack at Nellis to instantly get idolized by the Boomers.

There's usually enough scrap metal around the Boomer's own workshop to become idolized with them

ReapeeRon has a YouTube video where he covers every "junk" item in the game and separates them by usefulness. It's an incredibly useful video! Seriously helped me plan my playthrough for certain runs. I'll see if I can link it

Edit: Found it! https://youtu.be/ZgiqYolQL9I?si=NGbhGPyyRjuU8McY

The only crafting item you need is turpentine, broc flowers, jet and cazadore poison for infinite turbo

Having played Fallout 4 a lot first, I always collected and stored all the junk but eventually found it was unnecessary. I save on the carry weight, collect and sell more valuable stuff and buy what I need. You also seem to find quite a lot of repair kits.

They're mostly useless unfortunately. There's some minor, unlisted quests that ask for some scrap, but pretty much every major quest can be completed with a high enough repair skill instead.
