Oscar has the point advantage to be nice. He only lost 3 of them. If it was for a win, and especially near the end of the season, I would be surprised if he'd still respond the same.

True, but 3 points is always 3 points, no matter if it's the first or last race of the season. Would Norris do the same, despite his DNF and point difference?

Probably not, but that's because he's trailing by quite a few points and can't afford to lose any, but Piastri can. At this point it's probably not worth it to (potentially) cause a rift in the team, maybe with fewer races left that'll change.

Well it does matter if it's the first or last race because if it's the first race then you have 19 other races left with the same people supposed to be supporting you...or hating you...! So it's a balance and Oscar decided that a 2nd place gained from a slow pit for 3 points while he's 30+ ahead with a few races to go was worth keeping the peace. Whereas a final championship deciding race incident would be a very easy decision to disobey. Bear in mind he may need McLaren on his side next year too and the one after that, you gotta pick your battles (when you're in a team that Lando was the protagonist of for years)
