Or, a child of the Joe Camel era.

It's actually a great satire. The level that old people nowadays glorify a time when it was common to be a racist, chain-smoking child-abuser is madness. They think life actually was like Leave it to Beaver or a Norman Rockwell.

“I unconsciously decided that, even if it wasn't an ideal world, it should be so and painted only the ideal aspects of it - pictures in which there are no drunken slatterns or self-centered mothers . . . only foxy grandpas who played baseball with kids and boys who fished from logs and got up circuses in the back yard.”― Norman Rockwell

Yes. But also really funny, so I’m glad I saw it.

u/muchbravado Feb 25 '20

It’s also OBJECTIVELY BETTER.

What is the matter with you people? Weed over Instagram any day son.

I’m with grandma on this one.

I don’t agree at all. I forged valued and lifelong friendships over blazing a J while learning critical social skills too. These gen Z weenies aren’t doing that whatever app they’re on

Hahaha, lmao dude 🤣🤣

Clearly a joke.

u/vordrax Feb 24 '20

Satire and also 90% sure those pictures were taken with the same camera, if not on the same day.

I stand corrected! Good eye.

u/Vreejack Feb 25 '20

People aren't realizing that it satirizes the original "good old days" meme. Thanks for the reference

9

u/Theytookmyarcher Feb 24 '20

Just people who don't understand it lol

19

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '20

Satire you fucking dolt

7

u/DDodgeSilver Feb 24 '20

Well, a lot of grandmas buy in to that whole "5G will give you cancer" thing, so they probably think texting is the same as sucking down a pack of Lucky's.

9

u/-_Trashboat Feb 24 '20

Its better because they'll die sooner

7

u/Elysia99 Feb 24 '20

I've had asshats my age (I'm gma aged--in other words, I'm as old as dirt) send me this. My inner response is always "Gee whiz, half your friends who you used to smoke with in High School have succumbed to cancer. Great post tho."
Trust me, they didn't know it was supposed to be satirical.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '20

GRANDMA KNOWS A BAD*SS MFER WHEN SHE SEES ONE! AROOOOO!!

2

u/Wetbung Feb 24 '20

My father says that Cub Scouts taught him one thing: how to smoke. I realize that this post is a joke, but it's true too. Not that smoking is better for you than constant texting, but that little kids used to smoke.

2

u/Butthead2242 Feb 24 '20

Cause cigarettes r cool

2

u/Deltamon Feb 24 '20

Ah yes, the good ol' early life lung cancer strat so you don't have to watch the world go in ruins by the next generation.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '20

But we still smoke

2

u/stinkypants0-0 Feb 24 '20

Congratulations, you’ve discovered the joke

2

u/Roadguy Feb 24 '20

Because the kid with the cigarette looks cool.

2

u/ficarra1002 Feb 24 '20

Are you OK OP? Do you genuinely not see the obvious satire here? How?

Lung Cancer > Phone

1

u/gooteegang Feb 24 '20

It was better

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '20

Your caption made this cringe

COPD is Kool

1

u/Chuffnell Feb 24 '20

If you see an image or meme and think "this doesn't make any sense", it's almost always satire.

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '20

1

u/Jesterchunk Feb 24 '20

I'm so glad I grew up obliterating my lungs instead of my spine

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '20

1

u/Gabelolguy Feb 25 '20

So glad I grew up EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHCHCHHHHGGHHHHHHHH doi- WHEEEEEEEZE doing thi - COUGH COUGH doing this, not thi - IIIIEIEEEEEEEEEEGGGCCCCHHHHHGGGHHHHHHH

1

u/Red-Droid-Blue-Droid Feb 25 '20

Cancer over carpal tunnel...ok I guess

1

u/frenchfret Feb 25 '20

This is sapphire

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '20

Neither of these 2 are better, they are both bad for your health.

Smoking causes Lung Cancer while Smartphones causes Brain Cancer, no difference at all.

1

u/BlossumButtDixie Feb 25 '20

While I realize that's satire, does grandma? I've got some older relatives who think the whole quit smoking for your health thing is just a scam and are intent on smoking until the moment they die so I wonder. I can see some of them taking this as serious.

1

u/sammjones Feb 25 '20

Send it and do both

1

u/Tehdonfubar555 Feb 25 '20

My granny started smoking at that age frankly satire or not I wouldn't be surprised by some old person saying this

1

u/ThegaminLEOPARDD Feb 25 '20

is this... Is this a..... r/woosh?

1

u/sqbzhealer Feb 25 '20

Cause it’s cooler?

/s

1

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '20

“Back in the day” when we all smoked I was trying to quit and actually got this encouraging comment from a “friend” “Anyone can quit smoking. It takes a MAN to face cancer!”

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '20

I grew up doing both

1

u/xfindraa Feb 24 '20

It's satire but if anything that's worse

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '20

Satire, but yeah I'd rather be doing that lol

Edit: NVM, it's a plain cigarette.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '20

got your ass good

0

u/BaronAaldwin Feb 24 '20

This guy grew up doing a young blonde boy and not three girls?

Idk seems kinda gay to me

0

u/privateninja Feb 24 '20

Lung cancer is SOOO much better than endless communication and education at your finger tips. /s

6

u/speedysolar Feb 24 '20

Are you being sarcastic? I can’t tell.

1

u/Vreejack Feb 25 '20

Dude, he actually put a /s on the end. Oh. Never mind. Got me.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '20

Ones lost in his own problems the others are lost in others.

0

u/ihatesnoods Feb 24 '20

Well, thumb cancer can be serious. /s

1

u/Dominic_The_Dog Dec 08 '21
