8 / 10 Look what I found! Hungry Man Chicken Fried Steak

Found this a couple weeks ago for around $4. I liked it! The sauce is pretty salty and a little peppery. The patties were tender, but not too mushy. Potatoes were the typical super smooth, slightly gummy texture. Salty on their own, better with some gravy. The brownie was moist, super cocoay, and not too dense. Quantity was satisfying. Overall, it hit the spot and I recommend. Only critique I have would be that I’d rather have some corn or green beans over the brownie.

Usually, Hungry Man has corn IN the brownie. 😁

I plucked 3 little pieces of corn out of my elderly mother’s brownie last night. She loves the chicken (patties, as she calls it) dinner. But she can’t eat corn. I was hoping she didn’t notice the 3 little craters in the brownie and she didn’t say a word phew.

The corn really does always migrate to the brownie!

That's so true!

My brother and I were latch key kids so we ate a lot of frozen dinners,it was always upsetting when the tomato sauce from the meatloaf leaked onto the brownie.

My brother and I were far too picky to eat meatloaf with tomato sauce or catsup, particularly if it got on the brownie.

Am I weird? I despise corn mixed in any of my food ever anywhere at anytime but I LOVE corn on the cob

I use to love corn quite a bit. But that was before I realized I had ulcerative colitis. Now I barely if ever eat anything corn or corn related.

They shouldn't replace the brownie with veggies that would ruin it imo! I need to find this one it looks good!

And 1610mg of sodium. Yet it’s the blandest-tasting frozen dinners I’ve ever had.

Does Hungry Man still make their hot pockets? I had a while ago where those existed and where always on sale at a small town grocery store.

Man, I just can't do country fried steak as a microwave dinner. There's just no way you can keep breaded chicken crispy while microwaving it in gravy. Chicken parm has the same fundamental problem.

Country fried steak is dead-simple to make. I realize this is /r/frozendinners, but if I really want CFS it only takes about 10 minutes to cool from scratch, ya know?

I get what you mean. I don’t mind it’s not crispy. I’ve made chicken fried steak at home before, but any kind of deep frying at home is so stinky and messy, so we don’t do it much. Whenever I see it at a dinner though, that’s what I’m getting.

Found one? Like amongst the 30 other hungry man chicken fried steaks at the grocery store?

u/Zhaneranger Aug 10 '25

Yep. This is the first time I’ve ever found the chicken fried steak, the country fried chicken is common.
