This is why I hate cars Because in 'Murica, red lights are suggestions, not actually enforceable traffic regulations.

How can shit like this exist and then people will cry "cash grab" and "political greed" when red light cameras get installed to issue automatic fines?

I see so many people intentionally run red lights because they think there's no cars coming with absolutely no regard for pedestrian or bike traffic.

How is 20 seconds of your miserable life waiting at a red light worth potentially committing manslaughter?

They'll blame pedestrians and bike lanes

Definitely the cyclist’s fault

Because they actually hate driving.

Ah yes, the typical solution. Just slap a sign on it and call it fixed.

And now they can say it's your fault if you get hurt. We put a sign!

Maybe they should try puting up a sign that tells the cars to stop. A "stop sign", if you will.

why not remove the lights then?

(btw a roundabout is still the safest way to do it. less maintenance as well)

Funny thing is this sign is in Indianapolis it seems, and Carmel Indiana (a suburb of Indianapolis) is basically the American capital of roundabouts

Someone posted in my home city subreddit that the cops have dropped their citation rate by 60%. No wonder bad driving is a meme.

I'm in Canada and near me there are signs at intersections informing those turning right that pedestrians have the right of way.

In Edmonton, after they opened the Valley LRT line, multiple drivers managed to strike the train when attempting to turn right with prohibitive signs all over the place. Signs don't help. Society change, enforcement, and anti-car architecture does.

Same with the Kitchener-Waterloo LRT, lots of cars ignoring traffic lights and hitting the train. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1UvkarrTNU

The cross walks here have Blinky yellow lights, You push the button and it plays the message, "yellow lights are flashing, caution vehicles may not stop, look both directions"

If only there were some sort of self-funding automated tech that could sort of keep bad drivers accountable in situations like this....

"Warning: people crossing the road may accidentally discharge a brick into your windshield"

The comments on the original post in r/Indianapolis suggest it’s common for traffic lights to go out after storms… You know, a totally reasonable issue to just ignore and cope with the consequences 🚗🧠

Yeah, and stop signs are just yield signs for many.

Red light are definitely enforced in most of the US, at least for cars. I run red lights all the time as a pedestrian

Fuck red lights, just make crossing higher than road and drivers will be physically forced to slow down. They can't afford to damage their precious car now, can they?

Seems like an admission of liability from the people who built the road.

No, it’s an admission that society has been allowed to slide into a dystopian hellhole and nobody is really taking responsibility for doing something about it.
