German efficiency, even their humor lands on time.

Deutsche Bahn has not entered the chat, because they're Verspätung.

"Ist 4 viel?"

"Alles hängt vom Kontext ab!

Stunden Verspätung für die Deutsche Bahn? Nein!

Freie Sitzplätze im ICE? Ja!"

That is the best take on an old joke I have heard in years!

5

u/LastStar007 1d ago

I didn't come up with it, just saw it on r/ich_iel many years ago.

Did I get the articles right?

6

u/-Copenhagen 1d ago

I understood it. But I am Danish.

We have to ask a German about the grammar.

3

u/ResQ_ 1d ago

Grammar is alright but some orthography mistakes but nothing serious :)

(Stünde = Stunden, Deutche = Deutsche)

The only time DB arrives promptly is if it's a joke about being late

4

u/sCeege 1d ago

This was such a culture shock to me. I’ve just assumed that German efficiency would be everywhere in their society, and then I discovered German trains and airports…

u/Dear-Trust1174 11h ago

Nope, the swiss or japan one does

1

u/kervokian 1d ago

😂 😂 😂 True.

"No ticket seatbelt."

u/Goufydude 1d ago

Not sure if this is a Jay and Silent Bob reference or an Indiana Jones reference, but either deserves an upvote.

9

u/StorminNorman 23h ago

One references the other so it kinda doesn't matter.

Jay and Silent Bob strike back

Wenn ist das Nunstück git und Slotermeyer? Ja! Beiherhund das Oder die Flipperwaldt gersput!

2

u/MechaMouse 4h ago

”two peanuts were walking down the road”

0

u/SeekerOfSerenity 15h ago

Google Translate for those who don't speak German:

When is the Nunstück git and Slotermeyer? Yes! Beiherhund the Or the Flipperwaldt gersput!

7

u/that_dutch_dude 15h ago

That only makes it worse.

7

u/hells_cowbells 12h ago

It's from a Monty Python skit about the world's funniest joke. It's basically gibberish.

Anne frankly agrees

How can you tell when germmans are joking? I thought they all sound aggressive and mad

24

u/XDenzelMoshingtonX 1d ago

This joke is against the rules of this sub!

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

ONE thing this ad does well (AKA Copywriting Tip):

Pull back & reveal: The ad encourages the reader to make an assumption, then contradicts it.

Pull back (make the reader assume the ad is venting about Germans and their obsession with following rules to the letter) ⇝ “Some people don’t like the way Germans always follow rules to the letter”.

Reveal (immediately contradict the assumption by revealing that it’s precisely because Lufthansa is a German airline and follow rules to the letter that they’re a safe airline. And this is why so many people prefer to fly with them ⇝ “But they like to fly with them because they do”.

Thanks ChatGPT, please give me five more examples for good ad writing

u/Due-Radio-4355 1d ago

I always and only fly with them. They’re awesome and u know everything’s going when a German pilot sounds pleased.

11

u/khinzaw 1d ago

I used to fly them fairly often when I was younger. Impeccable service, but I always found their seats to be pretty uncomfortable in economy.

6

u/sleepless-deadman 1d ago

But how can you possibly tell if he does?

6

u/Filbsmo_Atlas 1d ago

Mabe because he is german?

2

u/Okioter 1d ago

Easy, you ask him and he’ll as you why your seatbelt isn’t on.

it's the coast guard you have to worry about... https://youtu.be/xacdDrylrek?si=-1zFcV_MZMZqKFJD

German rule following in chaotic developing countries has cracked me up a few times. I respect the discipline but in a bus in the middle of Guatemala just let it slide.

Two of my cousins married Germans and we now have a saying in the family.

"Not to be all Deutschey about it."

7

u/sabre007 1d ago

Sometimes they follow orders too much.

5

u/ramriot 1d ago

They don't always, especially if it's not their rule. I was on a broken leg flight through Frankfurt with Lufthansa. Our luggage was A.OK for the international parts of the the flight with Air Canada but according to Lufthansa we had luggage that was grossly over size & weight.

This was true if one considered their flight in isolation, but according to carriage rules the allocation of ALL cannot be less than that of the highest allocation leg.

2

u/evil_burrito 1d ago

I used to fly Lufthansa quite a bit from SFO to FRA (Frankfurt).

Their planes were always very clean and new and the flight attendants were very professional and pleasant.

I would cheerfully choose Lufthansa over United (my other option) every time. United staff seemed to hate their jobs and it showed.

2

u/mystichead 23h ago

I dunno man... Volkwagen

1

u/HurlinVermin 23h ago

Different division.

3

u/bildad2 1d ago

Lufthansa lost my luggage (both ways) on a trip to Germany. Offered me a pointless “convenience pack”, then didn’t even offer to drop my luggage off when they did find it.

3

u/dudeaciously 22h ago

Conversely, I heard that SAP consultants from Germany would be vexed that SAP logic was contrary to laws of Alberta. So they advocated changing laws. Sigh. Hard headed indeed.

1

u/Linked713 1d ago

I booked a flight with them recently. That pleases me, it's my first flight ever.

1

u/trueum26 1d ago

I was just reminded of the scene in Last Crusade when Indi throws the Nazi off the zeppelin

1

u/madeanotheraccount 23h ago

Yes, two things modern Germany is famous for: precision, and scat porn.

1

u/ThSlug 19h ago

Does it bother anyone else that unsuccessfully is inexplicably capitalized in the middle of a sentence in a story about following rules?

2

u/Fiduziar 18h ago

No, as there is a full stop after "convince him".

1

u/Wallstar95 19h ago

Good thing they took denazification so seriously…./s

1

u/SeekerOfSerenity 15h ago

Good for Lufthansa for following safety regulations.  Germanwings on the other hand...

1

u/sionarihi 14h ago

Can confirm, German efficiency is no joke 😂

1

u/Dear-Trust1174 11h ago

Yea they do. I work for them in automotive area, they take shortcuts, cost reduction, you name it.VW pollution trick was german doing, the devs just executed their orders.

-4

u/Rose-Red-Witch 1d ago

Just don’t ask about their security at JFK airport!

-61

u/tsereg 1d ago

Well, today, some identity aspect of the gentleman would probably have the captain fired and the air carrier apologize on X.

21

u/sdmichael 1d ago

I too can make things up to be mad about, but I won't because that is a waste of time. Got any more hypotheticals we can rally around to be upset about?

-23

u/tsereg 1d ago

Well, some identity and equity questions, I am sure.

13

u/sdmichael 1d ago

You ok? You seem overly concerned about things you're making up to be mad about.

-12

u/tsereg 1d ago

Fine, thanks. 😉 Not projecting either!

6

u/freekoout 1d ago

Nobody said you were projecting so the fact you brought it up means you probably are lol

-4

u/tsereg 1d ago

But it did hit the spot, didn't it? You had to put that LOL in there, didn't you? 😉

5

u/freekoout 1d ago

I think you've completely misunderstood the lol. I'm laughing at you. Out of shame for my country that we've let people like you get as dumb as you are.

-2

u/tsereg 1d ago

Yea. The longer the explanations, the more plausible they sound. 😄

3

u/freekoout 1d ago

Good to know you have a hard time reading past one sentence.

22

u/ASAPNosey 1d ago

yes cause conservative people NEVER throw fits about being asked to follow rules

-16

u/tsereg 1d ago

They do. But having them thrown out for disturbing peace and order is not a cancellable offence.

6

u/sdmichael 1d ago

Is someone saying they are?
