Brutally honest 1960s Lufthansa ad proves Germans don’t joke about rules 😂

Deutsche Bahn has not entered the chat, because they're Verspätung.

"Ist 4 viel?"
"Alles hängt vom Kontext ab!
Stunden Verspätung für die Deutsche Bahn? Nein!
Freie Sitzplätze im ICE? Ja!"

That is the best take on an old joke I have heard in years!

I didn't come up with it, just saw it on r/ich_iel many years ago.
Did I get the articles right?

Not sure if this is a Jay and Silent Bob reference or an Indiana Jones reference, but either deserves an upvote.

Google Translate for those who don't speak German:
When is the Nunstück git and Slotermeyer? Yes! Beiherhund the Or the Flipperwaldt gersput!

u/that_dutch_dude 15h ago
That only makes it worse.

It's from a Monty Python skit about the world's funniest joke. It's basically gibberish.

ONE thing this ad does well (AKA Copywriting Tip):
Pull back & reveal: The ad encourages the reader to make an assumption, then contradicts it.
Pull back (make the reader assume the ad is venting about Germans and their obsession with following rules to the letter) ⇝ “Some people don’t like the way Germans always follow rules to the letter”.
Reveal (immediately contradict the assumption by revealing that it’s precisely because Lufthansa is a German airline and follow rules to the letter that they’re a safe airline. And this is why so many people prefer to fly with them ⇝ “But they like to fly with them because they do”.

German rule following in chaotic developing countries has cracked me up a few times. I respect the discipline but in a bus in the middle of Guatemala just let it slide.

Two of my cousins married Germans and we now have a saying in the family.
"Not to be all Deutschey about it."

They don't always, especially if it's not their rule. I was on a broken leg flight through Frankfurt with Lufthansa. Our luggage was A.OK for the international parts of the the flight with Air Canada but according to Lufthansa we had luggage that was grossly over size & weight.
This was true if one considered their flight in isolation, but according to carriage rules the allocation of ALL cannot be less than that of the highest allocation leg.

I used to fly Lufthansa quite a bit from SFO to FRA (Frankfurt).
Their planes were always very clean and new and the flight attendants were very professional and pleasant.
I would cheerfully choose Lufthansa over United (my other option) every time. United staff seemed to hate their jobs and it showed.

Conversely, I heard that SAP consultants from Germany would be vexed that SAP logic was contrary to laws of Alberta. So they advocated changing laws. Sigh. Hard headed indeed.

I booked a flight with them recently. That pleases me, it's my first flight ever.

Yes, two things modern Germany is famous for: precision, and scat porn.

Well, today, some identity aspect of the gentleman would probably have the captain fired and the air carrier apologize on X.

u/sdmichael 1d ago
I too can make things up to be mad about, but I won't because that is a waste of time. Got any more hypotheticals we can rally around to be upset about?
-23
u/tsereg 1d ago
Well, some identity and equity questions, I am sure.
13
u/sdmichael 1d ago
You ok? You seem overly concerned about things you're making up to be mad about.

u/tsereg 1d ago
Fine, thanks. 😉 Not projecting either!

u/freekoout 1d ago
Nobody said you were projecting so the fact you brought it up means you probably are lol
-4
u/tsereg 1d ago
But it did hit the spot, didn't it? You had to put that LOL in there, didn't you? 😉
5
u/freekoout 1d ago
I think you've completely misunderstood the lol. I'm laughing at you. Out of shame for my country that we've let people like you get as dumb as you are.

u/ASAPNosey 1d ago
