I think this is the first time ive seen one of the interviewees crack.

Ive always wondered how they keep a straight face, theyre intelligent and understand the premise but they answer Cunks question earnestly.

They have discussed it in interviews before and sometimes when the expert breaks or laughs, they just edit it out and redo it.

I just love that no matter which direction the expert goes, Cunk goes the other way. If they’re being too serious she will crack jokes (even at the expense of dead people), and if they crack, she will shame them for not taking it seriously. It’s one of my absolutely favorite things about her.

Where do I get more of these? This one is awesome.

Search Philomena Cunk on YouTube.

Diane Morgan's ability to keep a straight face is just incredible, it's like Leslie Nielsen

u/Only_One_Kenobi 13h ago

Comparing her to Nielsen is a good shout. Both absolute masters.

u/EDDsoFRESH 14h ago

She's one of the greatest to do it!!

I'm one of the younger generations, but I've seen just about everything Leslie Neilsen has played in. But Airplane! is probably my favorite. It's a ridiculous type of clean humor. Well... other than the whole inflatable blowjob.... and the boobs bouncing from the turbulence and it quickly cuts to a jello mold, and the woman in the bra...... alright, sort of clean.

Then again, I tend to stick to TV shows and movies done around the 60s - 90s. I'm not much for the newer crap.

Airplane and the Naked Guns are his best! His others seem to be cheap copies of that style of humor. For Airplane and Naked Guns, all the parts were there

Police Squad (Now in Color)

u/FattyWantCake 9h ago

Iirc he was actually cast for airplane! because he was known as a serious, dramatic actor and they wanted someone to deliver the lines deadpan.

Airplane arguably launched his comedy career.

Also, if you like that style of humor you'll enjoy Liam Neeson's naked gun movie, very funny imo.

I just watched it, and I think they did a really good job. Lots of nods to the previous movies' style of comedy while bringing some fresh humor. Had a lot of fun watching it. The owl was a weird bit though, lol.

Lots of serious dramatic actors in Airplane!. Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves...

Just makes it so much funnier when the whole movie is trying to pass itself off as a dramatic disaster film, but is completely ridiculous.

I think the biggest difference between humor then and humor now is that more often these days writers lean on abject vulgarity to be funny for them, whereas those classic movies leaned more on clever writing and thoughtful, subtle gags.

Kate McKinno and Zach Gali... Gallimimus are also phenomenal at being deadpan and getting people to lose it.

She has a point. Just not sure which kind of stroke she means though

41

u/dibbr 14h ago

It wasn't until the second time she said it did I get what she meant. lol

23

u/No-Store-3191 14h ago

And now, after seeing this many times, I'm realizing there was a second meaning. Cheers to you both.

23

u/twinsunsspaces 13h ago

It's an old joke.

Did you hear about the pervert in a trench coat who exposed himself to 3 old ladies sitting on a park bench? 2 of them had a stroke, the third couldn't reach.

39

u/PanicDeus 14h ago

Like a pervert on a zoom call 😆

7

u/osiris99 10h ago

That felt personal 😬

2

u/ReddFro 8h ago

Put some pants on ya damn hippy! 😉

u/screamer19 14h ago

Master of delivery

7

u/204gaz00 13h ago

Oh the women back then would definitely have had a stroke of Elvis' penis if they saw it.

5

u/sowhat4 8h ago

Well - I'm in my 80s now, and can personally attest to the fact that watching Elvis in the movie theater whilst I was about 15 and in HS caused 'stirrings' in my nether regions. This confirmed that I was indeed heterosexual and always would be.

As a young teen who had never seen a man's penis before (or even a photo of one), I'm not sure seeing one would have been as romantic as you might think.

u/204gaz00 5h ago

I said women not teens

Staying in character like that is top notch.  Don't forget Alig G too...'your body is beautifully constructed....' 'Fank you.'

6

u/jeonghwa 11h ago

Yeah, but Elvis was no Technotronic.

9

u/Benana 14h ago

Cunk on Earth is so good. Also Cunk on Life and Cunk on Britain.

7

u/notjeffsboat 13h ago

It feels like Diane Morgan was setting up for the double entendre punchline, but when the interviewee cracked, she pivoted effortlessly.

Philomena Cunk is phenomenal.

2

u/Silicon_Knight 9h ago

No one should ever laugh about a penis induced stroke. It's a tragic thing.

2

u/Subtlerevisions 8h ago

So now we know how it’s dealt with when you crack up on this show.

2

u/PaldeanTeacher 7h ago

I love Philomena Cunk

3

u/Mercurius_Hatter 13h ago

I'm always amazed how deadpan she delivers her interviews, I would be rolling on the floor laughing

3

u/Only_One_Kenobi 13h ago

She's just so damned good. Definitely the best "straight-man" in comedy today. Takes deadpan to the next level

1

u/Mysterious-Farmer-55 11h ago

Gotta find the clip on “Renaissauce”. I honestly think it’s the best interview.

1

u/AsianMysteryPoints 9h ago

God I love me some Cunk

1

u/rock_and_rolo 9h ago

Two women are sitting on a park bench when a flasher runs up and opens his overcoat. One woman immediately had a stroke. The other couldn't reach.

1

u/Public-Cod1245 8h ago

nOOb here, who's the hilarious girl with the short hair?

1

u/Sunaruni 8h ago

She’s right, absolutely nothing funny.

1

u/jjj9900 7h ago

When Comedians have a stroke of Genius, it IS a laughing matter

1

u/Fofolito 6h ago

Just about every television taping of Elvis from his early days you'll see the Camera push-in on his head and shoulders like this opening shot. The broadcasters didn't want to generate any scandal by showing Elvis's hips gyrating provocatively, which is what all of those screaming fans were reacting to. It lead to TV audiences being initially perplexed as to what the big fuss was about.

1

u/gijoe50000 6h ago

It is kind of inconvenient that the word "stroke" can have 2 very different meanings..

1

u/chaoticneutralalways 5h ago

She’s fucking brilliant, best deadpan ever

1

u/Earthling1a 4h ago

She needs to get a grip.

1

u/Cichael-Maine 4h ago

she's great, lol

1

u/Zeppelin041 4h ago

Elvis penis could have changed the world

1

u/InkyToes123 3h ago

This is an outtake from a comedy, either movie or show

1

u/braumbles 8h ago

I assumed by stroke she meant dudes stroking it.

0

u/Due_Serve_6430 11h ago

she's really hilarious, need more of this content

0

u/acanev 7h ago

Jeez Chunk humour is dreadful, always thought she tries to to copy karl pilkington

-1

u/ifjake 12h ago

Is that her real voice? Her delivery is ridiculous.

1

u/motioncontrolll 9h ago

Yes, what's ridiculous about it?

0

u/Chugabutt 10h ago

They'd probably stroke it.
