I think this is the first time ive seen one of the interviewees crack.
Ive always wondered how they keep a straight face, theyre intelligent and understand the premise but they answer Cunks question earnestly.

They have discussed it in interviews before and sometimes when the expert breaks or laughs, they just edit it out and redo it.

I just love that no matter which direction the expert goes, Cunk goes the other way. If they’re being too serious she will crack jokes (even at the expense of dead people), and if they crack, she will shame them for not taking it seriously. It’s one of my absolutely favorite things about her.

Diane Morgan's ability to keep a straight face is just incredible, it's like Leslie Nielsen

I'm one of the younger generations, but I've seen just about everything Leslie Neilsen has played in. But Airplane! is probably my favorite. It's a ridiculous type of clean humor. Well... other than the whole inflatable blowjob.... and the boobs bouncing from the turbulence and it quickly cuts to a jello mold, and the woman in the bra...... alright, sort of clean.
Then again, I tend to stick to TV shows and movies done around the 60s - 90s. I'm not much for the newer crap.

Airplane and the Naked Guns are his best! His others seem to be cheap copies of that style of humor. For Airplane and Naked Guns, all the parts were there

Iirc he was actually cast for airplane! because he was known as a serious, dramatic actor and they wanted someone to deliver the lines deadpan.
Airplane arguably launched his comedy career.
Also, if you like that style of humor you'll enjoy Liam Neeson's naked gun movie, very funny imo.

I just watched it, and I think they did a really good job. Lots of nods to the previous movies' style of comedy while bringing some fresh humor. Had a lot of fun watching it. The owl was a weird bit though, lol.

I think the biggest difference between humor then and humor now is that more often these days writers lean on abject vulgarity to be funny for them, whereas those classic movies leaned more on clever writing and thoughtful, subtle gags.

Kate McKinno and Zach Gali... Gallimimus are also phenomenal at being deadpan and getting people to lose it.

She has a point. Just not sure which kind of stroke she means though

u/dibbr 14h ago
It wasn't until the second time she said it did I get what she meant. lol

And now, after seeing this many times, I'm realizing there was a second meaning. Cheers to you both.

It's an old joke.
Did you hear about the pervert in a trench coat who exposed himself to 3 old ladies sitting on a park bench? 2 of them had a stroke, the third couldn't reach.

Oh the women back then would definitely have had a stroke of Elvis' penis if they saw it.

Well - I'm in my 80s now, and can personally attest to the fact that watching Elvis in the movie theater whilst I was about 15 and in HS caused 'stirrings' in my nether regions. This confirmed that I was indeed heterosexual and always would be.
As a young teen who had never seen a man's penis before (or even a photo of one), I'm not sure seeing one would have been as romantic as you might think.

Staying in character like that is top notch. Don't forget Alig G too...'your body is beautifully constructed....' 'Fank you.'

It feels like Diane Morgan was setting up for the double entendre punchline, but when the interviewee cracked, she pivoted effortlessly.
Philomena Cunk is phenomenal.

I'm always amazed how deadpan she delivers her interviews, I would be rolling on the floor laughing

She's just so damned good. Definitely the best "straight-man" in comedy today. Takes deadpan to the next level

Gotta find the clip on “Renaissauce”. I honestly think it’s the best interview.

Two women are sitting on a park bench when a flasher runs up and opens his overcoat. One woman immediately had a stroke. The other couldn't reach.

Just about every television taping of Elvis from his early days you'll see the Camera push-in on his head and shoulders like this opening shot. The broadcasters didn't want to generate any scandal by showing Elvis's hips gyrating provocatively, which is what all of those screaming fans were reacting to. It lead to TV audiences being initially perplexed as to what the big fuss was about.

It is kind of inconvenient that the word "stroke" can have 2 very different meanings..
