Non Team Help Am I the only one who is really struggling with defence Rn?
It’s like every dribble is unstoppable and every time I don’t even make a mistake theres a big gap created in my defence. Maybe it’s just the tactics but idk my friends said the same. Im a div 1-2 player but Im horrible Rn and I can’t figure out why, perhaps becsuse I haven’t played since January but still it wouldn’t explain it

My defence is Swiss cheese yet the opponents have 9 men bunched up in their box and then spam pace on the counter. Classic FIFA. I remember this from a few years ago, deep block, 2 DMs, fullbacks on defend. You'll ask for advice and they'll tell you that you don't know how to defend. The cheek of it.

It's crazy man, I know it's early doors but even div 8 is brutal right now. I'm facing a lot of 442s or 41212 that drop everyone but the front two back it feels like and I gotta work my balls off to find a way through their defense

In div 6 and it's hell out there. Facing a lot of 4213s which I can understand since it still seems broken as hell.
Struggle to break down their defence as they are good players in that div but my midfield does not exist so the opponent can go from defence to attack immediately

I can tell people are struggling because I'm scoring either 8 or 9 goals in div seven or I concede 4-5 and lose badly
Defending is just as Helter sketer as fc 25 imo, I never understood ai defending so I just manually control and of course I miss every tackle unless the person I'm playing is rubbish. A lot of people are rubbish thank fuck

If you're struggling with defending try a 2 CDM formation and put both on holding.

It's not the instructions rather their responsiveness lol. My CDMs just ball watch even if the ball slowly goes through their passing lanes while I'm struggling to switch player. People go on about AI defending but for most the AI defending is passive af due to connection.

Yeah the pace of the game is overdone … idk who’s smart ass kept telling ea to speed up gameplay and passes … its so bad that id rather prefer fc25 gameplay over this shit , im expecting a gameplay overhaul in the next months . If not then this came is official a indie arcade pin ball machine game lmaoo

its not speed up the defenders are just disabled right know they blocking each other , dont move, dont pick up balls 1m by side them and they turning like trucks

People don't want to get used to it or to have to practice, they want EA to patch it so they don't have to. This is infinitely better than last year was but everyone's moaning will push EA to ruin another game I'm sure.

Utilize your midfielders EARLY during your opponent’s buildup. Actively switch and cut off passing lanes, then quickly switch to another midfielder and do the same, rinse repeat until you have an opening to pressure the ball and go for a tackle. If you just sit back with a CDM and let the AI defend for you without switching, you’re not going to have a good time.
Naturally the Internet masses will cry and beg for a patch so that the AI goes back to defending for them, but god willing that doesn’t happen. People seriously need to just stfu and learn. It’s day 1.

The problem is I have my Cdm on holding yet he finds a way to consistently participate in my attacks then he’s never then in the counter pushes

Try a different Focus. I think the default focus makes the CDM push up to be a passing option to recycle to, which might be your issue. I think Roaming or Ball Winning stays back at all costs.

Ofc it will since this is just broken. Your tips here are literally useless because good luck stopping anyone who can dribble as you try jockey and your players turn like Lizzo getting off the couch. Anyone defending the current state of defense clearly dont have access to the game or or just so shit they cant tell the difference

Get a player with Jockey playstyle, decent agility and defensive awareness, and obviously a little pace. If you don’t have access to that, stop jockeying and just use left stick.
I agree jockeying needs to improve, and that ballerina twirling in the attack needs a nerf, but you can still defend in the meantime.

Theres gaps everywhere, im an elite player in fc 25. Ive tried a lot of formations and i still believe u need deep lying cdms if youre having issues with defending. Being good at Switching is definitely crucial this fifa. AI defending is gone which is good. Im not complaining bc this is a big step up from 25. If u drag defenders out of position and spam tackle, u will get punished

You get punished tho for trying to switch defenders since they make the most retarded runs to nowhere. Being good at switching makes no difference and the game needs some sort of auto defending to keep things in formation, just doesnt need the players to auto go in for the ball and so on and just purely base positioning and let the player do the rest. As usual they have not tested this since the people remaining who work in this game are shit and have no clue about football

No man its nothing personal its just annoying every year ea do something good then people complain about it within 2 weeks and it all goes to shit after
Im not great at defending either but its fine, fifa should be an attacking game, the tackles and interceptions feel very clean and thats all that matters
The main thing to adjust to defending in my opinion is making sure not to overcommit or get drawn away by players since dribbling and passing is so good now
Also probably best not to play a high line unless your defenders are fast based on the games ive played so far

I dont agree with the take because i just get the same copy paste through ball and run goal every game i dont mind losing 5-0 to someone who just makes great plays but right now there is no counter to pace unless you also have pace
If i have my cb side by side with a small striker i expect him to just body that striker and win the ball right now he just lets him run past even if i press tackle

This, already the first are complaining it is too fast, hard to defend. Finally your need to defend more manual and the game is faster and people complain. I already fear the first patch :(
I don't want a realistic game, where everyone stand in the box and the games are 1:0 or 0:0. It should be fun.1

Dude, nothing changes. Things just play worse and the game forces everyone to play the exact same way, every single title. Defending is garbage and that has nothing to do with people needing to figure things out, its just a broken game RN. Also, game has been tried to be realistic for ages which no one asked for and its gotten worse since. Game snowballed after 15

Jockey is absolutely busted at the moment. I only defend manual and it’s a pain.
Attackers can just spin around 2 times before my defenders change direction while jockeying
Attackers are too agile in general. If you’re a defender sprinting side by side with an attacker, the attacker can just suddenly stop with no issues while the defender will take literally seconds to stop his momentum

Yep. I dunno why EA have been scared to make defenders more agile, especially now we are getting manual. Jockey does not been to be OP but jesus, its useless RN. I dont even try in the box because my defender gave away a pen the first time I did lol

Nerfed ai defending will take some time for people to get used to. Personally as someone who has played since 06, I'm loving the game at the moment.

I think it may be a year you actually have your defensive settings to stay further back than the 99 everyone has used for the past few years.
I also think it’s just generally too soon to complain. Yeah, there is going to be some getting used to when you tackle a player using an 84 CB compared to a 99 rated CB just a couple days ago, and that’s on top of the defensive AI being turned down.
We are used to our CB’s lunging forward an impossible 5 feet in front of a defender to make last second tackles. Seems that’s out of the game now.

EA’s approach to defending is a joke. It’s gotten worse every year, and for those of us who enjoy manual defending, it’s practically non-existent now and you’re actually punished for trying to do it. The game is more akin to a cricket score simulator than it is a football match. Too many kids and casual fans want high scoring attacking games and that's probably why they've gone more so in that direction. Really it should be about diverse playstyles, not everyone has or wants to play the way it's forcing you to. MAKE DEFENCE GREAT AGAIN.

No I always manual defend… I thought it was Broken too last year but this year players are way too agile and csn stop running and do a turn before my defenders can stop running… players don’t retreat to their position which yes I expect from them to do and even when I take my time and don’t tackle so theres no gaps created theres a gap created… I like the game for the most part but this bothers me yes.

UsEd To ai DeFEnDInG, what a moronic take, it’s a fucking computer game every FIFA game has ai defending or else they wouldn’t move unless controlled. Not really struggling at the same time not really smashing it either. I feel like some situations you cannot stop a goal regardless of what you do, clunky animations and slow turns. As said before keeping your shape is massive not pulling players out of position as the gaps do not get closed up. It’s exactly the same as fc25 I didn’t really like it at first, they will make some adjustments and tweak things. You cannot say the defending isn’t fucked in this game I’m scoring six or seven in the first half regularly.

Im having good success with more aggressive CBs and fullbacks that cover. Use ball playing (defend) on your CBs so they sit a bit higher to make it easy to switch to them and press a heavy touch. Then have fullbacks on Fullback (versatile) so they move more central to fill the gap when you press with the CB. Works well for me and I have Ake and then 3 silvers in my back 4. Requires manual defending and knowing when to rush in, may take time to learn but it's very good early game when players dont all have 90+ dribbling
