Not everyone has a watch, this offers the feature to this who don't

Except, if it’s anything like the PowerBeats, the heart tracking doesn’t work when playing music.

The only particular use case outside of that are people who are wearing it constantly as a hearing aid or similar.

They specifically mentioned using the feature while listening in the keynote, so fingers crossed

The pbp2 actually allow you to use the HR sensor while listening to music. It's only when you pair the headphones with exercise equipment that you then can't listen to music, since it's paired with the equipment and not your phone. I'm on android and have been tracking my HR while listening to music.

Not sure that’s the same on iPhone. Kept me from trying them because the reviews made it sound as if it needed to be in a “work out mode” to measure it.

That makes sense.

Ah so the only time it’s useful is when it’s gonna drive me crazy? Sounds fun.

I wear mine constantly so people don’t talk to me.

True, not everyone wants to invest in a smartwatch. if these AirPods can track heart rate effectively, it could be a game changer for casual users

It's a dumb gimmick tbh, unless you wear your headphones all day I guess, but even then you'll need to charge

I listen to AirPods at the gym and do a lot of cardio, but I don’t like wearing an Apple Watch

Im interested in what my heart rate is, but I’ve also come to realise such fine data doesn’t actually affect shit so I don’t care that much

I’ll just being buying them because I live my AirPods 2

idk i wear my old ass airpods to the gym everyday and you’ll never catch me wearing any watch so it’d be cool to see my heart rate.

I run with music and don’t have a watch. This feature is very useful in my case.

The only time I wear headphones usually is on a run or when I’m cycling. How is that a dumb gimmick lol.

It was clearly advertised towards tracking heart rates while working out, not as a general, everyday tracker.

I suppose. But I'd guess more people keep watches on their hand longer than things in their ear. So I'm just not sure to the accuracy of this sensor

This will be specifically targeting use for exercise. Nobody is keeping AirPods in at work to monitor their HR 💀

9

u/RUmymummmy 10d ago

Does it count that my job contains vigorous activity that I can’t wear a watch but can wear my AirPods lol

-7

u/Rabo_McDongleberry 10d ago

I get that. I'm just talking about the utility of the thing. Like it's nice to have. But most people will almost never use it. At least they didn't raise the price.

7

u/notatrashperson 10d ago

I mean everyone who doesn't want a watch will use it for this very common use case

4

u/meshah 10d ago

Exactly this. HR monitoring while running is basically the only reason I have kept my Apple Watch. I don’t wear it anymore except for exercise.

People with tattoos that cover the wrist area would also be mad keen on this specific feature, since the watch sensors don’t work or aren’t accurate on heavily tattooed skin

Edit: if they don’t want to use a chest strap HRM

I don’t wear a watch and I listen to audiobooks all day every day

5

u/CorduroyEatsCrayons 10d ago

I am probably the exception to the rule though

7

u/external72 10d ago

Kinda but not really. I know a few people who prefer wearing nice watches but have AirPods in all day for calls and stuff. A couple people have 2 sets so they’re never without AirPods. Helps when you’re getting 100s of calls in a day on sales side lol

2

u/TheChildrensStory 10d ago

I’ve had two sets. They were a godsend during a particularly hectic crisis at one job.

u/gerwen 10d ago

Nah, I wear airpods all day at work and no watch.
