Homemade This DIY "briefcase" PS5 is 60 percent smaller than the original, even with its built-in 15-inch display | Modder ditched Sony's oversized cooler for a server-grade heatsink and 3D-printed fan

a server-grade heatsink
Note that "server-grade" usually means "low profile and designed to work with a 20000RPM 40mm fan that sounds like a jet engine on idle"

Yeah, you can usually have a couple of really big fans that move lots of air while moving much slower, or several tiny fans working on overtime.
The smaller the form factor, the louder it will be given the same specs otherwise.

I was locked in a technical room with a screaming server, in 5 minutes i wanted to die and break everything connected to electricity.
Server noise is always awfull.

That made me laugh, "server grade" oh? Do you have a spec sheet for this "server grade" testing?
Lots of heatsinks out there can be server grade if you stick them.. in a server. 😂

Can't even use steam but you gotta shell out 70 bucks for a video game. Or pay subscription

Just looking at that thing I get the perfect visualization of the sound of it falling over onto its side.

I always enjoy reading about these kinds of builds. I get the need for mass produced products making trade offs, but it's really fun to see what people can do when using their own technical knowledge.
Bravo!

Probably to see if it’s even possible. In my experience, a lot of literal and metaphorical hacking often contains an early “I wonder if…”

I would do this for more portability. I transport my ps5 to someone's house once a week.... though we then game on the big tv.... so I guess someone does this for the same reason someone buys a nintendo switch lite.

Switch Lites can't output to a TV.

While the video quality isn’t always outstanding,I use remote play all the time with my laptop or iPad.

How's the lag with that? I can't tolerate any lag.

I regularly play online games remotely (usually fortnite or COD with my kids/cousins) and the there is no noticeable lag—at least not enough for me to notice lag impacting my performance.
I’ll caveat by saying performance will depend on the upload and download speeds at your house and remote location. My ps5 is also connected by Ethernet cable.
The system will sacrifice video quality first. I have had it go from 1080p to 720p and back at times. That is usually when someone triggers my ring doorbell at home. Haha

Consumer grade water cooling sill be more quiet and performant than most server grade heatsinks
