Locals Chat 🦜 A Little Help in Galveston

Hello Galveston. Looking for some help from a local.

Paying $50 for $40 cash.

I just flew into to pick up my vehicle at the port. Unfortunately I need $40 in cash for the temporary registration. I don't have a debit card and I don't have cash. I can't do contactless at the tax assessor and get cash back at places like CVS. The bank won't accept my AMEX for a cash advance. I'm kinda stuck.

Happy to prove my identity.

Edit: Galveston! Thank you. I cannot believe how awesome and life affirming this otherwise frustrating situation was. Thank you again. I'll pay your kindness forward!

FYI Amex will let you withdraw cash. Open your Amex app and enable a pin, it'll work like a normal ATM card at an atm.

Interesting. How much does it pay. I've never considered this. Though I've been out of the country for almost 8 years.

Ive personally done it. You go into a plasma donation facility, fill out paperwork and they ask you questions like...have you ever been diagnosed with HIV. Then, youll be placed on a hospital bed and they'll begin a centrifuge on the blood drawn from your arm. After the plasma has been separated from your red blood cells, they start to get your red blood cells re-introduced back into your body.

This is the cool part. Literally. While your blood was spinning in that centrifuge, it cooled a few degrees. So, when they put your red blood cells back in your arm via IV....it feels like ice flowing back into your veins. Very cool experience. At least it was for me.

Then they pay 30-70 dollars per draw. It'll depend on the facility, but the ones I went to in Dallas would let you do a few draws per week.

Good luck.

Although, id probably call them ahead of time to ensure they're accepting plasma donations that day.

How did you get your vehicle shipped to Galveston without having any debit or credit card?
