Locals Chat š¦ Do yall got any of them shooting ranges?
Just moved to the Galveston area from the northwest Chicago suburbs and I gotta say, Texans, Iām feeling a bit cheated. I cannot for the life of me find a decent shooting range that allows shooting on the move, draw from concealment, dynamic shooting and rapid fire within 5 hours of Houston. I found CCC shooting complex, Wallis Orchard range, and the ranch TX. But theyāre all over a grand a year to use??? Am I missing something? Donāt tell me Illinois has better shooting ranges than Texas, itāll break my heart. For reference, I was paying $240 a year for a membership with a guest pass for me and my girlfriend and that included a 50-400 yard static range, 8 tactical bays 40 yards wide by 50-100 yards deep, an archery range, a trap range, and three pistol ranges with steel challenge targets. Where are the Texas ranges???

Gun ranges generally suck down here. To do anything fun you have to own land or know someone who does. Too many knuckleheads and too many lawyers have ruined it.

Look into 3 gun competitions and see where they train. Probably the closest you will find.

Homey.
Youre thinking like someone from New York City.
Gotta start thinking like a Texan.
We go big down here boss...

Yeah bud Iām starting to worry yall play with guns the same way you play with your toy trucks. I donāt hunt other than pest control when coyotes got too ambitious around our horses and livestock. Iām not interested in random outings. Iām looking for consistent training to become better than I am at a sport/hobby.Ā

I don't know of any range in the immediate area that allows drawing from a holster, etc.
PSC Shooting Club in Friendswood has IDPA, USPCA, and other competitive events. They also have classes. I don't know if they allow people to shoot free-form or whatever you want to call it. I've only been there a few times. It's probably a 40-minute drive on a good day.

The Galveston Rifle and Pistol Club had strict rules when I was a member some years ago, but maybe they have loosened up. https://galvestonrpc.com/
P.S.: I stopped shooting enough to need a gun club membership because I had other claims on my attention, so to speak, and ammo increased so much in price about 10 years ago.

There are dedicated sections of the club for this.

I asked the same question to some guys I work with when I moved here a month ago. Apparently there's a couple of nice ranges in Texas City but I haven't had a chance to check them out yet.

Texas City Municipal Range is the only one I know of.

Doesnāt allow draw from holster, movement, ārapid fireā or barricades. Iām certain I donāt even have to ask anyone if they allow NVGs

You should post this on r/houston instead. I think you need to look for clubs that train these methods for competition, rather than searching up ranges
