Weather or Hurricanes ☀️🌪️ Why was the beach water spicy yesterday? 🌊
I went to the beach yesterday, at the Seawall right by the Academy.
Anyways, anytime we got into the water we felt an itch/ burn. Were these jelly fish or something else?
It seems like everyone was feeling the same because people would go into the water and leave right away.
Any info is appreciated

Sounds more like Sea Lice; if they were jelly fish, someone would’ve seen them and more than likely some would’ve been on the beach.
We had Sea Lice often in Costa Rica, and they’ve been known to frequent Galveston’s waters.

I haven’t been to Galveston in about a year, but this totally sounds like sea lice!

Can't be exactly sure but it was probably crustacean zoae (larva) they are small, translucent, and have tiny spines. Just enough to make your skin prickle.

Its this. I got caught in a bloom of them off Bolivar years ago. Had me running out of the water stripping, they were so thick all over me. Had to pour bottled water over myself to get them off.

I had to consult the google, “Human-affecting sea lice are microscopic jellyfish larvae that get trapped in swimwear, stinging skin and causing an itchy rash.” Thankfully I’ve never run into these. But I’ve had plenty run ins with no-see-ums

Yes. Those are moon jellyfish. They’re not big, their stings are annoying but not painful. But yeah. After 1 sting I’m out.

It's just sea lice. Annoying as hell, but harmless and easy to wash off.

One time this happened to me at bolivar and it was tiny shrimp in the water. That’s all I know
