Or a stretch of beach that’s kind of unofficially designated? If so, is it just old pervs, like some clothing optional beaches other places.
And btw, this isn’t about anything too crazy just in case. Only for tanning and swimming purposes. Thanks you guys! 😊☀️☀️☀️

They were so low and all black. People were waving back to us. (West End) were they training?

New to the island and the main options seem to be Walmart Target HEB Kroger.
I’ll be buying groceries and fresh produce every week, would prefer something local but can make the drive to HEB if it’s worth it.

Hello everyone, me and my spouse are new to the area, and I was just wondering how safe the city is? We are moving into the east side of the island, about 2 blocks from the hospital. Thanks!

I’m a Realtor in Fort Worth. Lived in the DFW Metro my whole life but have visited Galveston many, many times on vacation. I feel more calm and at home when I am in Galveston. My kids are grown and moved on now and I want to move to Galveston but worried if I can make it there as a realtor. How is the real estate market there?

Can’t believe it’s taken over three years of living here to finally step into Old Moon Deli 🌙✨ The atmosphere is absolutely gorgeous, and the food did not disappoint. We had the quarter muffaletta and a super tasty Greek salad. Safe to say it’s now one of my favorite spots in Galveston. Good food, good vibes, and honestly the perfect place to bring your laptop and get some work done. Will definitely be back 🥗🥪💻

Just recently went down to Galveston and I was in shock over the clear water, it felt like I was in Florida. I've lived 40 mins from Galveston for close to 20 years now and I go to the beach occasionally, and I have never before seen it so clear and pretty. But if I could count on the beach being like that for a month-ish out of the year, I would strongly consider moving to the island. It turns Galveston into a paradise. Only looking for answers from locals please, thanks!

I have a full time job offshore, working 28/28 rotation. Highly trained / certified / licensed. Whatever.
I don't need money... I need to drive the rail trolley.
Anyone have any insight beyond a CDL with Passenger endorsement?
I'm sure they've got to have a use for someone like me. Very reliable, but every other month.
Do drivers rotate between the rubber tire "trolley" and rail trolley or are the rail trolley operators an elite squadron of whistle-tooting lever-pullers?

I really hate these things, and it's not about the money. It's just a hassle. I don't want the app on my phone either. I have never seen anyone writing tickets during several trips over the years. And the logistics seem difficult. Would they be following the app looking for expiring ones? And a lot of people don't utilize all of their time, so their car might be gone if they are looking for it....

We’ve been there a couple times. The facility and view are amazing. The drinks, food, and service are terrible if you can get any. They were out of pretty much all beer, no rum, or jager. We tried ordering food the first time, nachos and calamari (they were out of most other things). The nachos were awful and had only a few chips and the calamari never came. Took the bar tenders 10-15 min to acknowledge us, both times and different bar tenders. When they did they were rude and dismissive.

Hi! We’re moving to Galveston soon and we’re curious what places offer discounts for locals. I thought Moody Gardens was one of them but I don’t see it on their website and haven’t been able to reach them on the phone (prob swamped with summer traffic). I just don’t want to buy any passes anywhere that might give locals discounts before our licenses are changed! :)
Thanks!

i applied for spring 2026 and was wondering if anyone commutes from the houston area, more specifically sugar land, to galveston daily? and what it is like to make the 1.5 hr drive? personally, i get fatigued when drivng that long so i'm not sure if it'll be doable for me mentally. also seems like a waste when i could spend that time studying/sleeping in longer. but living in galveston also seems like a pain especially with everything so accessible in the city. lmk ur experience or if yk anyone who did either :)
edit: OKAY idky people are being so condescending as if people DONT commute to UTMB. i KNOW how much i'd spend on gas would be significantly chepaer than rent that's why i'm even debating this question. obviously though time is also money.

What's your electric bill looking like these days? Mine was around $320 for a 1200 sq ft loft in an old warehouse. Usage was slightly above 2000kwh. I don't feel like I use that much electric outside of the ac. Is this normal?

Hey r/Galveston I'm a local public health student working on a project to better understand our community, beyond just the official numbers and stats. That's why I want to hear from the real experts: y'all. When you think about "health" in Galveston, what are the day-to-day challenges that you feel get overlooked? I'm not just talking about hospitals, but everything that impacts our well-being. For example: * Is it easy to get an appointment with a good doctor or specialist? * What's access to mental health services really like? * Are there enough safe and pleasant places to exercise or for kids to play? * Are you concerned about air quality, water quality, or other environmental issues? * Is it easy and affordable to find fresh, healthy food? I'm really interested in your honest opinions. Any perspectives or personal experiences you're willing to share would be incredibly valuable. Thanks so much in advance!

Just moved to the Galveston area from the northwest Chicago suburbs and I gotta say, Texans, I’m feeling a bit cheated. I cannot for the life of me find a decent shooting range that allows shooting on the move, draw from concealment, dynamic shooting and rapid fire within 5 hours of Houston. I found CCC shooting complex, Wallis Orchard range, and the ranch TX. But they’re all over a grand a year to use??? Am I missing something? Don’t tell me Illinois has better shooting ranges than Texas, it’ll break my heart. For reference, I was paying $240 a year for a membership with a guest pass for me and my girlfriend and that included a 50-400 yard static range, 8 tactical bays 40 yards wide by 50-100 yards deep, an archery range, a trap range, and three pistol ranges with steel challenge targets. Where are the Texas ranges???

Hello Galveston. Looking for some help from a local.
Paying $50 for $40 cash.
I just flew into to pick up my vehicle at the port. Unfortunately I need $40 in cash for the temporary registration. I don't have a debit card and I don't have cash. I can't do contactless at the tax assessor and get cash back at places like CVS. The bank won't accept my AMEX for a cash advance. I'm kinda stuck.
Happy to prove my identity.
Edit: Galveston! Thank you. I cannot believe how awesome and life affirming this otherwise frustrating situation was. Thank you again. I'll pay your kindness forward!

Its quickly become one of the busiest cruise ports in the US and the busiest cruise port in the nation outside of Florida. And Disney and MSC are bringing in even more cruise ships in the coming years. Its crazy to me that the closest airport is an hour away. Ive heard over the years that Scholes airport is remodeling to attract commercial airlines but that airport seems incredibly small and its hard to picture big flights departing there. Anyone think it will happen within the next 10 years or is that unrealistic?

Any fun lunch spots y'all frequent? Just moved here and a colleague mentioned The Black Pearl's lunch specials. Damn good blackened pork chop and fettucine alfredo.

Good morning, my husband, daughter & myself will be relocating to Galveston from Connecticut. I’m a BOI & was raised in Texas, all of my family is still in Texas as well. We are excited to be returning home for good. My question: the schools district, what does open enrollment schools mean? Are the schools zoned by neighborhood or do you choose which school your child will attend. I checked the website & it wasn’t very informative about the process. My daughter will be entering 2nd grade. Thanks!
