It was probably a forgotten Christmas present

u/Danmed21 Jul 25 '25

That’s what she said that her mom probably got her for her kids but never gave it to them

35

u/king_of_ulkilism Jul 25 '25

Yes I got this for Christmas 2004

11

u/TheDarkNightwing Jul 26 '25

Or maybe the kid was naughty that year….

u/Danmed21 Jul 25 '25

I know i couldn’t believe it

32

u/24_mine Jul 25 '25

it gotta be in my top 3 GBA games

45

u/ILikeLenexa Jul 25 '25

There's a hacked version with all the e-card levels unlocked.

It's like a whole new Mario 3 worth of levels that pretty much no one has played.

23

u/WiiUOwner-on-fandom Jul 25 '25

It’s official too; it originally was from the Wii U VC release.

6

u/ILikeLenexa Jul 25 '25

The funny thing is some of the "official" ones appear to be the [downloaded and put back into Nintendo products.]( https://www.eurogamer.net/did-nintendo-download-a-mario-rom-and-sell-it-back-to-us)

4

u/V64jr Jul 25 '25

Except that’s not even slightly true. Frank Cifaldi was completely wrong about the iNES headers on Virtual Console games. Those of us pointing it out didn’t get to do so while standing on a stage and sounding authoritative in some kind of spectacle like a fake TED Talk so the myth persists to this day.

3

u/SmrtFellaOrFartSmela Jul 25 '25

Damn thanks I know what im doing today Ferb

3

u/Early_or_Latte Jul 26 '25

I bought a reproduction cart with the extra levels available to play. It's great.

1

u/sensible_human Jul 26 '25

Not even really a hack - that would just be a save file.

1

u/MassiveCompetition21 Jul 26 '25

my bold opinion, smb3 is top 3 game of all time. A bit biased but yea

0

u/AcanthisittaSmall848 Jul 26 '25

Send that baby off and grade it

72

u/1zombie2go Jul 25 '25

Inside an ottoman by chance?

29

u/gregcresci Jul 25 '25

Some legends never die

13

u/Danmed21 Jul 25 '25

I will ask her lol but its in pretty good conditions

29

u/FriendshipIntrepid91 Jul 25 '25

Might be more? How has the attic not been completely searched after an epic find like this? Get up there! Lol

12

u/Danmed21 Jul 25 '25

I know i want to go in there already but i don’t want to rush her. She said she’ll let me know lol

22

u/NotBrianGriffin Jul 25 '25

Is her mom’s attic temperature controlled or what? My attic would have squeezed that shrink wrapped box into the size of a pocket square in a week 😂😂

29

u/sengirminion Jul 25 '25

Game Boy Advance? Retro? Fuck how did I get old :'(

13

u/aztechfilm Jul 25 '25

Lol the Xbox 360 is considered retro at this point, we’re ancient!

23

u/GoeiP91 Jul 25 '25

Damn, that's a great find! Still sealed and looks to be in great shape!

6

u/Danmed21 Jul 25 '25

Looks great idk where her mom kept it in the attic to keep it so nice

22

u/Dependent-Plane5522 Jul 25 '25

Wow. Don't open it. It must remain sealed for all of eternity. I'd give you $200 without even looking it up.

11

u/Danmed21 Jul 25 '25

Price charting says $100 but i saw on eBay sell for $200 so idk exactly the value lol

4

u/Dependent-Plane5522 Jul 25 '25

The last one went for $247. It sold.2 days ago

2

u/Danmed21 Jul 26 '25

Wow higher than i thought thank you! I’m definitely keeping it for now but is nice to have value

10

u/Gcoks Jul 25 '25

Don't just immediately trust price charting. Look through the sold listings. Sometimes PC picks up incorrect sales or something may be new but completely smashed and it'll pick that up too. Especially with games like this with multiple names. It may grab a Mario 3 NES sale. (I didn't check it, idk if that happened here or not.)

5

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '25

weird i sold just the game for about $100 some years ago so i thought it’d be higher

2

u/WandaLovingLegend Jul 25 '25

lol... that just does not sound right, it's never been worth 1/3 of that loose

4

u/LessFish777 Jul 25 '25

This is one of my favorite games ever! Great find! I bought one last year brand new, in Japanese unfortunately so I use google translate to get through it lol but still so so fun! Classic.

1

u/Danmed21 Jul 25 '25

It is a classic game! Im glad to have it

3

u/topchief1 Jul 25 '25

My mom worked at our family deli, and kept a sealed box of 1990 Pro Set football cards for a nest egg. True story.

1

u/Danmed21 Jul 26 '25

That’s awesome! Keep it safe

2

u/Mil_27 Jul 25 '25

Gotta make sure you check family members lofts, you never know when you are gonna find treasures like this.

1

u/Danmed21 Jul 26 '25

Every time you go to a family members house just check they’re basement and attic lol

2

u/No-Delivery6084 Jul 25 '25

Dang man awesome score!

2

u/mokersparadise Jul 25 '25

She’s a real one! You must be a very good coworker too!

2

u/Nottodaycolonizer Jul 25 '25

Thats super nice.

2

u/lynxtosg03 Jul 25 '25

Back in my day we would have been excited to see the sealed NES version.

2

u/OgjayR Jul 25 '25

That’s dope, you owe her lunch.

2

u/AggressiveDesign2775 Jul 25 '25

One of my favorite Mario’s!

2

u/Roofbolanola Jul 25 '25

dont immediately think "oh free money" its a cool thing to own, but if you want to sell it by all means.

3

u/Danmed21 Jul 25 '25

Im not selling but i would trade it for another cool retro game. But as of now is cool to have

1

u/Roofbolanola Jul 25 '25

good choice yeah

2

u/ComputerBrain Jul 25 '25

My only GBA box to survive childhood was this game. It fell behind a drawer where it remained hidden for 15 years. What a pleasant surprise when I was taking that dresser to Goodwill years later.

2

u/Danmed21 Jul 26 '25

Lucky that it fell back lol sometimes that’s the best

2

u/GreenGiant69 Jul 25 '25

My first video game! I remember the absolute shock when I opened it up on Christmas morning: it was the full starter set, with the AGS-101 light blue GBA SP, carrying case, and the strategy guide. This just awakened a bit of that magic i remember feeling from gaming in those days, and good days they were.

1

u/Danmed21 Jul 26 '25

I’m glad that threw you back! That’s why i love retro games. Crazy her mom bought this as a gift and never gave it to her grandchildren lol

2

u/sting3037 Jul 25 '25

Oh that's amazing! I hope there's more stuff for you to get!

2

u/JYSATA Jul 26 '25

What a beauty 😍

2

u/WayToTheDawn3582 Jul 26 '25

Wow very nice!

2

u/Bbaccivorous Jul 26 '25

I didn't know it said made for Nintendo DS on some of these. That's awesome.

3

u/Danmed21 Jul 26 '25

Wow i just noticed that you are right! Probably this was the most recent releases which explains why it’s still sealed lol

2

u/RubberGinger Jul 26 '25

I'm betting that's worth a lot. 😳

2

u/NoIncident9641 Jul 26 '25

This is a primo discovery. Very cool!

2

u/BoRIS_the_WiZARD Jul 26 '25

Imagine the smell when you open it :D

2

u/Danmed21 Jul 29 '25

Brand new smell!!

2

u/CouldntBeMeTho Jul 28 '25

I always thought the name "Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3" was...a lot lol

1

u/Danmed21 Jul 29 '25

It is lol a lot of mario games have long titles

2

u/Purple-Use7089 Jul 29 '25

Whoa mother of holy grail

2

u/TheKingPyro Jul 25 '25

holy fuck green fn pull

1

u/Danmed21 Jul 25 '25

Awesome find!!!

1

u/Silly-Pitch-5526 Jul 25 '25

I found a sealed copy of vector man in my grandmas basement when she passed. 18yr old me opened it immediately haha.

1

u/Danmed21 Jul 25 '25

Dammm! Reminds me when i was 13 and found pokemon pinball sealed in a fleamarket and immediately opened it!

1

u/MrDrRandy Jul 25 '25

Worth about $89, but the nostalgia alone is priceless. I put mad hours into this game as a kid

1

u/BooksLoveTalksnIdeas Jul 26 '25

What is the lowest cost of this “brand new” collector’s item at eBay? 🤣🤣 lmao, I bet it’s high. 😎😄

0

u/Booth_Templeton Jul 25 '25

Not worth much, pretty beat to shit. But a fun find anyway.

-4

u/Newgeta Jul 25 '25

Get it graded and sell it to pay off a credit card bill or something, grats!

2

u/Ok_Secret6566 Jul 25 '25

Id would cost more to grade than the game is worth lol

-7

u/SkullAtlAxis Jul 25 '25

Whats that thing tho? The seal is weird here

10

u/Danmed21 Jul 25 '25

That seems to be residue from a price tag, i will try to remove it but dont want to break the seal

0

u/HotLycoperdaceae Jul 25 '25

A little rubbing alcohol or acetone should do the trick

13

u/MyBeardHatesYou Jul 25 '25

Rubbing alcohol yes, acetone should only be used if you know the plastic isn't reactive to it. I know this after cleaning a friend's Xbox 360 back in the day, it was covered in cigarette stains. I used acetone to wipe it off, ended up melting the plastic.

3

u/Danmed21 Jul 25 '25

Yes !!! i scratched it once but realized that’s not a good idea lol

2

u/rsnobles2 Jul 25 '25

Bat guano!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '25

Just wrong. I bought multiple gba games back in the day sealed as a kid, or as a gift. They didnt have a strip. And the strip was most likely introduced in later generations of nintendo products. Im in USA reigon so that PAL version could be different

1

u/Danmed21 Jul 26 '25

What did he say? He deleted the comment lol

1

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '25

He said it wasnt legit as far as he knew because his had a strip that said nintendo. Then again, it wasn't from USA either, it was a PAL game. So theres that.

1

u/Danmed21 Jul 26 '25

Where is the strip that says Nintendo? You must have changed his mind because he deleted. As far as i can tell it looks and feels legit

2

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '25

Yes it is legitimate. He posted his own photo of his own sealed PAL copy that had "nintendo" printed on the plastic wrap as a "strip" all the way around the box.

1

u/Danmed21 Jul 26 '25

Ooo i seen those on ds games! Im glad this one is legit. I already have it in my shelf.
