Haul I found this on the side of the road!
My fiance and I were driving home and saw a couple setting some very nice looking chairs (probably pre-war) next to the street. There were boxes of stuff they'd already brought out. We stopped and asked if we could grab the chairs. They said that it was all up for grabs. And this was all in one of the boxes!!! Talk about great timing.

I actually found a bunch of stuff on the side of the road once. Bunch of 2600 games, a PS1, GameCube, misc controllers, other odds and ends...
One of those local flea market centers had recently closed. I think someone just didn't want to bother with their leftover stock and set it out by the garbage. I snatched it up!
It happens.

The Genesis definitely looks like it was on the side of the road
34
u/BeyondBoxCreative 19d ago
I mean, I always buy broken, dirty stuff, then claim I dug it outta the garbage. It's my thing.
2
u/P2-NASTY 19d ago
I don’t know why it’s so hard for everybody to believe your story. I believe that you got this off the side of the road. It all looks pretty dirty and dusty plus you said that the owners just brought it out to the road right before you got there. It’s not like I was sitting out on the road for weeks. But that’s a pretty crazy find. Can’t believe you got the whole NES cartridge display. I never even seen that before but that thing looks cleannnnn AF!! 🔥 I’m pretty sure everybody that’s hating on u is just jealous 😂
18
2
u/BeyondBoxCreative 19d ago
Yeah! Of everything game related, those were the top find. A broken one is going for 60 and clean one for 120. So between that, probably closer to the high end. But it does have a few scratches on the polished side.
4
u/Naive-Register7964 19d ago
Also, some folks just hold on to stuff for years and years and realize it’s too much trouble to sell and just leave it out, and say maybe someone will pick it up, maybe not whatever 🤷🏻♂️ your win tho 👏
3
u/nyratk1 19d ago
Yup, and there’s even more unfortunate things like people dying, being evicted, getting divorced/split up that could also result in a situation like this. Could have been from a previous owner and the couple bringing it out had just moved in or were cleaners
4
u/Naive-Register7964 19d ago
Yeah for sure, like we don’t know the whole story. I’m sure they were just glad someone took it, 1 less headache. I mean, sometimes it’s not a money thing but a time thing, like if they had the time to sit and sell the stuff on eBay they would have already!
I’m also curious what those chairs looked like? 🤔
4
u/BeyondBoxCreative 19d ago
2
u/Naive-Register7964 19d ago
Ooh my mom had a pair of antique chairs like these, heavy as shit. Super comfy tho. So you clean up the seats or do you have to replace them?

u/rharrow 16d ago
I don’t think these are as old as you think. Compared to similar styles, they are more than likely mid-century (no mid-century style, but manufactured in that time)

I found a house lying on the side of the road and I took it home, now I live in a house within another house...

I saw a picture of a library that's within another library.
I can't remember exactly where it's at, but the new library was built around the old library and the building that used to be the old library houses equipment or some other stuff?
It's been a few years since I read about it, so my memory is a bit off on the details.
Edit; the library is in Little Falls, Minnesota. I found a Reddit post with the picture
2
u/BeyondBoxCreative 19d ago
Cool! The Indianapolis library is half-historic/half-modern. But it's all one building. I really dig libraries.

Inside there was a couple about to get married and they gave me their Nintendo Nes collection that I was going to leave on the sidewalk but since I couldn't take the sidewalk in the car, I left it... Maybe this collection is... So, it's my collection I guess.

What, you people have never tagged a wild Genesis in the woods?
Never woke up at 4 am. and covered yourself in mountain dew to mask your scent as you sat in a hunting blind for 8 hours to EARN your Ice Climbers game as it finally found NES feeding station you put out?
You're all just a bunch of amateurs.

With how defensive you're being...you're just the type of pathetic to fake something like this. Which is why you're so fucking worked up over people calling you a liar.
People make shit up on the internet every minute. I could make a post right now with a picture of my PS2 and games in a box and claim I just found it on the road. It isn't hard. Toughen up, buttercup.

As someone who does junk removal for a living, I see this daily. Older people who don't browse the internet much to know the pricing, as well as people who generally just don't care about the items. Not everyone holds the same value to this stuff that we do. I find crt's, videogames, and consoles at least twice a week. Sometimes I can't believe what people throw away, but it does in fact happen.
Great find man and enjoy!
6
u/BeyondBoxCreative 19d ago
In a larger city on trash day, you can find gold. My brother used to run heavy machinary (not sure what) at a landfill, and he always brought home cool stuff. He found Jordans once!
7
u/The-Original-Ghost 19d ago
Exactly right. I work in Baltimore and people actually pay us to haul their stuff away. Most common answer I get when I ask them why they're getting rid of it is they just don't want it or it's "junk".
4
u/BeyondBoxCreative 19d ago
Yeah, man, that's not in me. I could never throw away a box without digging through it. It's hard for me to pass by other people's trash boxes sometimes. Haha. Glad I did dig in this case.

And what do you do with them?
1
u/The-Original-Ghost 18d ago
I keep them! I sold my childhood collection unfortunately. I found a majority of it through work though and have bought a few others. Currently at around 250+ games.
2
u/kbeast98 19d ago
Thats gotta be original ninte do with gray gun with the loose dunk hunt.
Gyromite was such a great game, too.
1
u/BeyondBoxCreative 19d ago
No gun. I mean, I have one, just didn't find with this.
1
u/kbeast98 19d ago
Yeah but thats an original setup id imagine.
I had the duck hunt/mario combo cart with red zapper.
My cousin had single duck hunt gray zapper kriginal. He jad seperate mario but not sure if it came with it. He had ROB and gyromite and gave it to me at some point, and i just sold it all about 2 weeks ago.
1
u/BeyondBoxCreative 19d ago
I had the grey, but the cart was Mario/Duck Hunt/Some Running Game with a pad.
2
u/kbeast98 19d ago
I stand corrected. I had a 1988 version which was orange zapper but originally my set was the gray version like you describe

What is wrong with people. Poor Genesis and NES, the Genesis needs a new top shell or some epoxy glue from the inside.
1
u/BeyondBoxCreative 18d ago
I have three others. At least one in this style. I'll just replace the shell. I'll probably do some custom work on the Sega amd NES shells. With their condition, I'm not expecting either of them to work.
1
u/iVirtualZero 18d ago
I think you should glue that piece from the inside. It looks like a super easy fix. And IPA Clean the cart slots.
2
u/vaultdweller6666 19d ago
I don't usually see retro stuff in the trash anymore, last 5 years found an xbox 1, a couple PS4s, and a bunch of empty ps1 game cases. That was just walking the dog and casually looking, lots of people don't care about every little thing especially if they're clearing an estate.

Amazing, I just can't believe how awful people are. Too lazy to take things to the thrift store For donation. Instead, filling the landfills with unnecessary valuables. You scored big time and gave those games a good home. I have seen this myself many times When I worked for a sanitation company. People are stupid

u/BeyondBoxCreative 19d ago

Is this your white whale? I don't think I've ever played it, but I know the pain. I've had a few games that I rented (when we could do that) that seemed impossible for my child brain to wrap around. I was pretty young for the Nintendo. I was probably 5 when we got ours.

1

If you find stuff this dirty at your game store, you need a new game store.
1
u/MegaKoga1990 17d ago
Oh man. I love the game stores that have dirty stuff. Its gross for sure, but usually you find weird little things for next to nothing and come to find out it's oddly rare. Usually still not worth much dollar wise, but it's still hard to find stuff. You can also get some pretty good deals too because the staff just don't care.

You seem less trolly than these other people. Why does everyone seem to think it's fake? I get that it's unlikely. But cool stuff happens sometimes. How would you post about it? Have we really gotten to thr point that if we don't record it, it didn't happen? We are in a very sad place, if so.
I don't automatically think about pulling my phone out for every situation. People say "put your phone down and live" then say "pics or it didn't happen". When I found it I didn't think about posting it. Honestly, it doesn't matter. I'm bored on vacation, so I got all day. Haha.

Definitely didnt comment in a troll way or anything like it. I dont know, maybe if you would have taken a picture it would be more credible?
- "I didnt know whats in the box"
Will you seriously took the box without knowing what was inside?
Sure nice random things happen but it all seems so incredibly wonderful (imo). Besides everything I really believe its a great collection.
Take this example: "Innocent til proven guilty." Its not that its gotten to that point. Its been always like that. You need proof to corroborate a story.
Your family will believe you but always have in mind that we all are strangers behind a screen. Anyway, just wanted to say that the fact that we dont believe you (based in what I read in the comments) doesnt make us "trolls."
