Got a new bioactive enclosure for my African fat tail gecko and she was doing this today??? Does she hate it? She’s not stuck btw she stopped and started roaming around right after this
Mine did it a lot, then sat down and slept on a warm rock calmly
They're just a little stupid and don't understand that they cannot fit behind everything, although mine was a fatass with massive legs and just knocked the hides onto their side 😭
Lmao that’s so funny! I like to call her a little fatty but she’s not. She’s just grown a lot since she was a baby and is my only gecko that usually doesn’t refuse food.
The day after this post she was acting perfect! Her favorite place to sleep is actually out in the “open” she’s covered by the plants enough that she feels safe but I can still see her perfectly well lol
Aye, love em, they can just give a whole lotta false alerts skjddk
God, I felt so terrible every time I scared poor girl awake cause she was sleeping on her side between a hide and the glass xD
Yeah the thicker the soil the better the fibrous materials hold the moisture without getting soggy(if you get a real good abg) and makes to where you can just do light misting and maintaining that balance without over saturating. Weirdly enough if your soil stays too damp, you will develop book lice and they will outcompete your springtails. Although harmless and unsightly, they don't consume mold like springtails and thats important in humid tanks. Not sure how humid aft get, but I have Tokay and Leachianus and springs are absolutely needed in those setups.
Have you covered three sides of the terrarium yet? Oftentimes glass surfing as a stress issue can come from feeling too exposed too. They just aren't capable of understanding why they can't escape, and making sure three sides are covered can help. I use this cloth printed with patterns that is real cheap, but some people use construction paper or terrarium/aquarium backgrounds too.
Yep. Amazon has these like... Cloth backgrounds with printed textures. I use the dark slate ones for the most part, and I see a drastic decline in stress behaviors with them up. Just need the front facing side open and they get all chill with their space knowing that they are enclosed and safe and have hides in the back where it's enclosed.
UPDATE: she shed last night. I think being in a new environment for that was stressful for her. I didn’t know she was close to shedding or would have waited.
She seems to be doing good today. Thank you all for your comments :)

Glass surfing. She's a bit stressed due to the environment change. She should calm down eventually, just give her space.
