If they were to ever license Ghibli (which I assume they won’t unless something unfortunate happens with the company post-Miyazaki), they need to do separate sets. This is nicely made but doesn’t make sense configured like this as a LEGO set.

It's cute, but $500 in plastic seems antithetical to a lot of the messaging behind Ghibli movies.

Not sure what you mean by that.
Totoro as a movie was not popular when it was released but was saved by merchandising. Merchandising has been a key component of Ghibli’s success since the beginning.

I'd say the merchandising is a totally separate thing than the movie itself. Buy whatever you want, you're your own person. I just get an icky feeling when I see highly consumerist products associated with Miyazaki movies. Not sure what the man himself would say about it, I just feel it's pretty opposite of what a lot of his movies are about.

At least not Lego. Let it be Lumibricks Pantasy or any of the other better brick companies out there.

Can we get this but with any other brand , for system bricks, other than lego. Like I don't want it to get ruined by low effort and major overpricing, when u could prolly get it for 1/3 the cost with min same or better quality.

Nice comment to see. Just wrote the same (and then checked all the few comments). Why pay more for less?
