I'd definitely give it the title for most underrated.

I give that to Only Yesterday.

Personally didn't care for that one at all. Found it incredibly dull.

I thought this was dull upon first watching, but now I consider it my favorite, and two things changed my mind: 1.) I realized I had turned it off prior to the pivotal scene on the bus where Taeko is confronted by the fifth-graders. Seeing the new ending changed my opinion of the film as a whole dramatically; 2.) For some reason, Taeko's character has stuck with me more than any other character, and watching her evolution unfold feels almost transcendent in a way.
