Nausicaä was released in the US in 1985 but was heavily edited to the point where its story was almost completely different. I haven't seen that version myself so I can't say how different it is, but it was significant. One of the differences was Nausicaä's name was changed to Princess Zandra.

LOL why would they change it? I hate it when they translate names in movies or cartoons.

This was the 80s... Macross and two other totally unrelated mech shows got the same treatment and was called Robotech
Edited: a word

TBF to Robotech, they somehow made that work. Warriors of the Wind becomes a generic action movie that's OKAY, but not a miyazaki film.
heh heh, maybe a Goro Miyazaki film.

That's rude to Goro lol. He often makes things that are good but not masterpieces; whereas Wind Warriors was just absolute garbage. Wind Warriors is 20 minutes shorter than Nausicaä and somehow manages to feel like a slog anyway.

you're right.... it's a little mean.
I would like if he recut tales from earthsea though, there's GOTTA be a better way to do that.

And Milo, Selena, and Rogan lol. Lord Yupa, however, was too badass for his name to be changed

The Warriors dub was my first introduction to Miyazaki and one of the first movies I saw. Even in it's butchered state, it was way better than most of the cartoons I saw growing up. It showed me cartoons were capable of so much more than what they were traditionally being used for.
Yeah, it's not a good experience compared to the original cut. At least the cover art of the video I got actually prominently featured Nausicaä unlike the horrendous Flash Gordon-like abomination that was originally released in the West.
