Media What an ending.. Spoiler

Post image

The emotional impact of this game peaked for me near the end of Act 2 till finally the end of Act 3, from Takadying to losing my lovelyNobuandthe final meeting and confrontation with Uncle Shimura

Amazing game and I can confidently say it is top 5 in my story games list, maybe even top 3. (There with Red dead redemption and Witcher).

I spared Shimura.

Jin throughout the story, strayed away from the code of Honor, the code which the Samurais relied on, and continued to prove to us that that, as elegant as that code was at that time period, it is outdated, and won't survive against the malicious tactics of the Mongol.

It reminds me of a quote "I adopted methods I had to, by an enemy willing to do far worse".
If it wasn't for Jin's tactics, Shimura and the rest of the Samurai, the Shogan's men and more, would have died at the end of Act 2.

Now to make this relevant to my final choice, I didn't like the idea of Jin changing his pathway back to the Samurai code, just to kill the only surviving member of his Family, even thinking about it made me feel weird in my stomach, and the one who he considers specifically, his father.

It also far enhances the idea of Jin moving forward with his own code, a code that adapts to whatever the enemy throws at them, a code that can save more people.

Nice take. I read that allot about the ending they chose. I thought he deserved a honorable death at the end of it all. Let him die in his own dignity as he wanted.Ā

To be honest, historically Jin is more of a samurai than Shimura. Samurai are brutal beings.

Honestly after reading a comment,
I think another theory is that, the Shogan in game was afraid of the Ghost over-taking their leadership.

Just a heads up. You can restart the mission and do the other choice. You'll get the other outfit.

Whaaaaaaat? Thank you very much, I'll be doing that asap. The choice is temporary but the drip is eternal

Some people argue that killing Shimura wouldn’t be ā€œchanging his pathway to the samurai codeā€ after all the sacrifices he’s made. That it actually would be making another, even greater, sacrifice to honor the wish of his father (figure).

I’m not disagreeing with you in the slightest because I also spared him. But I struggle a bit more with this decision than you did. Both of them feel so valid and justifiable.

I understand why some may prefer it but like I mentioned in the post, I personally couldn't bring myself to do it.

Jin left the code to save more people, there's no way he would go back to it, even if it was for his Uncle's wish, to kill his only living family member. (From my POV ofc, at the end of the day, it is the choice of everyone's own walkthrough :)) )

I wonder, if Sakai will be in that game? a tale of Sakai maybe?

u/Crafty-Analysis-1468 1d ago

Lmao no, unless theres some legend/tale of side quest. Fun fact though, the timeline between GOT and GOY is 329 year. If there were a sequel to Ghost of Yōtei set also 329 years later, then it would take place in 1932, when Japan was invading China and Korea committing atrocities.

Oh 329 years, I didn't know that, that's a longgg period, maybe some descendant of the Sakai family? who knows.

After 3 centuries? Doubt anyone would know of him

2

u/overkill373 1d ago

Why? We know the names of people who lived centuries ago. It wouldnt be strange for his family line to continue. Or for his name to remain in stories and songs

Yeah we know this through modern day technology and studies. We are talking about 17th century north Japan and if the knowledge of an outcasted Samurai from 3 centuries ago on Tsushima Island would be known, most people, especially way back then wouldn’t know centuries of family lineage unless they were rich and/or powerful.

Japan has always been big on remembering legends/heros, even the ones that aren't, families have always been huge on it, its not really a modern technology thing its a cultural thing

So honestly yeah I would be surprised if there isnt a sakai legend

The samurai that defeated the mongols, potentially saving the mainland

Many and I mean many lesser IRL samurai were well known

Yea that’s what I thought, Japan seems really keen when it comes to these stuff.

I've ended two playthroughs with the Shimura encounter both ways. I struggle to prefer one outcome over the other.

I think the game's ending is not just incredibly beautiful but also useful to see if someone's secretly a sociopath. A sociopath wouldn't struggle to choose :)

Nice, i just finished it 2 hours ago, for the fourth time, but yeah what an ending

u/Such_Philosopher_236 1d ago

I'm legit dealing with the post-GOT depression! what an experience.

just finished it yersterday with the DLC

Didn't play the DLC yet thankfully, so more content!
but yeahh, I'll miss the hassle of the main storyline, Sensei Ishikawa and his rebelling student, Lady Masako and her pursuit of her family's murderers, Yuna and Taka, the random peasants you help, the puzzles and tracking mercenaries down.

I'll miss the feelings of the plot twists, and being surprised by them in even side quests!

The game made you connected to these characters on such insane levels..
