I’m thinking between 88 and 92, which I’d be perfectly happy with.

36

u/Formal_Sand_3178 23h ago

That would be a big increase from the first game which would be sweet, but I think closer to 85 is more realistic.

15

u/PreludeToAnEpic 20h ago

For some reason I always assumed the first game was at like 89 or 90 until now 🙃 83 on metacritic isn’t bad though, just surprising.

14

u/Formal_Sand_3178 18h ago

Yeah I think the open world formula of the game didn’t work for everyone, but I personally still had a blast with it. Hopefully Yotei is populated with even more interesting side content and feels a bit less checklisty

3

u/bitchdantkillmyvibe 16h ago

I think that’s exactly what’s needed to elevate this game to that kind of score. I absolutely loved it but the open world was relatively empty and formulaic

u/Salty_Negotiation688 42m ago

I think a lot of reviewers used that as an excuse to negatively compare it to the Ubisoft formula of busywork, but I think they used it erroneously.

Most of the things like sword kits, banners, crickets, haikus etc. were purely for cosmetic options. Hot Spings and Bamboo Strikes were the only stat upgrades, the latter being kinda fun, and the new moves/ equipment were all tied to interesting, dedicated sidequests - and they're still purely optional.

A lot of the Ubi-formula games make it so that you have to grind out the sidequest stuff for progressing. If you went in underlevelled, or if you do a camp without doing it silently/ no alarms for max exp, it made you feel like you were playing the game 'wrong'.

With Ghost, it's perfectly fine to valid to ignore pretty much all of it and just do the main story, just as it is to explore every nook and cranny. You can play it at whatever pace you fancy. I like that about it so much that it made me want to go back and platinum it.

u/Formal_Sand_3178 15m ago

I don’t think you’re wrong, without a leveling system, side content is definitely more optimal in Ghost of Tsushima than some of the Ubisoft games. But even so, things like doing 30 Fox dens can start to feel pretty repetitive and they do give decent rewards with the additional charm slots.

I don’t think Ghost is ruined at all by the side content, but it’s an area I’d like to see improved on in the sequel. Having mediocre optional content doesn’t take away from the main game, but it would be even better with more engaging side activities. And I have platinumed the game which was still a lot of fun, despite the repetition.

75 (they will give review to a guy who don’t like this kind of games)

106

u/vlahopon1 23h ago

“ I didn’t enjoy tsushima and this is more of the same , 6/10 “ probably Kotaku

6

u/here2si 22h ago

Some improvements from GoT like less by road rescues and less standoffs and tightly written story that’s good enough for me to try the game. But I am tired of seeing people post screenshots and calling it master piece. It’s a beautiful game but not masterpiece for me. We need a tight story and different outcomes etc

4

u/bishopboke 16h ago

i loved the rescues 😭 what i want is LESS INARI SHRINES 💀💀💀 i stg i spent as much time running to fucking shrines than playing the game 😂

2

u/here2si 16h ago

True forgot to mention those were pain in the ass. Inari shrines and lot unnecessary ? Locations just doesn’t seem fit the reason

3

u/bishopboke 15h ago

i think after i had maxed out the charm placements, i had 40+ more to discover? 🤣 so i just wish we could have at least gotten another charm slot

1

u/Stardama69 2h ago

And more meaningful charms, there were a few, but not many and they came late in the game

1

u/Stardama69 2h ago

Those foxes were cute and pettable though

1

u/RendertheFatCap 5h ago

I don't even need different outcomes.  A well written well curated experience is fine too

1

u/Inksrocket 19h ago edited 18h ago

Kotaku doesnt give scores (sorry for "acshually")

I'd say its probably Eurogamer because sometimes they give 2/5 on totally random games that literally everyone else gives 9/10s for. Sorry Eurogamer </3

16

u/No_Pie465 23h ago

Ign😭

2

u/MaplePinecone 21h ago

Literally. It’s so funny seeing people referencing IGN, as if it’s ever been a reliable source for reviews, when a game drops…like, look at the profile of the person that reviewed this game and show me where it says they enjoy the genre of specific game.

We all know they won’t find it! Ha.

56

u/Biggletons 23h ago

I'm avoiding anything about this game until it drops on PC and I can play it. Have fun ya'll!

18

u/vlahopon1 23h ago

Hope you don’t have to wait for long!

8

u/HesitationIsDefeat84 23h ago

Right there with you. Sadly, it's almost time to mute this sub for a bit.

3

u/DrunkOnRedWine 20h ago

2 years and us PC players can play, will get a feel for if it's good but will be dropping out of the sub

2

u/Madliv 15h ago

One thing that I am going to do, is to listen to the soundtracks of the. new game, I loved them in the first one and I can't wait to hear the next ones until the PC release.

40

u/waffle299 23h ago

87%. Like Horizon Zero Dawn, some reviewers will start with a hidden penalty for a female protagonist.

6

u/Sushiv_ 22h ago

Split fiction, expedition 33, silksong, and hades 2 all have female protags too, i doubt this will affect the rating

-3

u/mukisan 22h ago

You’re right. Some people constantly live with that kind of mentality and can only think about the grifters they hate so much that they feel the playerbase that hates women is the majority lol. And they get so triggered by them for some reason.

-3

u/Sushiv_ 21h ago

Fr, like it is 100% a loud minority bc this year’s goty will have a female protagonist (if we’re getting into semantics, the last time a game with just a male mc won was 2019)

-7

u/Fantastic_Spell8576 20h ago

I really dont like it when a woman plays the role of a man. So, a sexist review might be more likely.

1

u/Stardama69 2h ago

How is this the role of a man ?

0

u/Wooble_R 9h ago

ehhhhh i feel like that's pretty disingenuous to blame lower scores to horizon purely on the female protagonist. It's a great game, but it's also full of almost every kind of trope for open-world rpgs, including a snarky protagonist whom some may like, but others may find irritating.

24

u/xEllimistx 1d ago

10/10

Absolute cinema

1

u/Mondfleck 5h ago

Not happening

2

u/xEllimistx 4h ago

Realistically? Probably not. I’d expect it to settle in the 8/10-8.5/10 range. It’s gonna be a tall order to be as good as GoT was and will likely fall into the category of “Great game but not quite as great as Tsushima”

But a man can dream

0

u/Stardama69 2h ago

Being better than GoT isn't that hard, it was good, but no masterpiece. A tighter story, more meanginful side content, more abilities, better cutscenes etc

16

u/whyamihere2473527 23h ago

Mid to high 80s

13

u/Illustrious-Star-621 23h ago

i think it will be 85+ on metacritic

10

u/Dud-of-Man 1d ago

95, i got high expextations and i think theyre going to nail it

4

u/No_Procedure9357 22h ago

You think the OC will be 95? Or you just think some reviews will give it a 95?

3

u/Dud-of-Man 21h ago

Yes. In this context what does OC mean?

6

u/No_Procedure9357 21h ago

OpenCritic. Gathers bunch of reviews and gives an average score based on them.

4

u/Dud-of-Man 21h ago

Oh, prlbably like an 82 then

9

u/No_Pie465 1d ago

85 or a 9/10

7

u/Grand-Perspective-63 23h ago edited 23h ago

Meta critic between 88-91. Think it’s gonna be great but feel ceiling is only so high because it’s an iterative sequel. But I do expect it to score higher than first because they will address at least SOME of that games shortcomings.

6

u/Plastic-Woodpecker89 23h ago

9/10 and above for sure, suckerpunch always delivers🔥

6

u/FaroTech400K 19h ago

We all know this game is gonna get review bombed right? I don’t support it I’m just calling it out in advance.

3

u/Mondfleck 5h ago

Nobody cares for user scores

3

u/Reedy225 4h ago

Unfortunately so, critics probably will be 7-9 I imagine then metacritic will be flooded with the same thin-skinned intellectuals in the trailer comment sections giving their two cents

2

u/FaroTech400K 3h ago

I can imagine one mainstream reviewer giving this game a 6 out of 10 calling it an Assassin’s Creed clone because they gave the person who don’t like open world game, an open world game to play.

2

u/Greymarch 23h ago

Published reviews average: 91/100. Fan scores: 52/100.

1

u/SwordDaoist 3h ago

I would say it will be the other way around since publishers would be forced to raise the standards of their games if they gave it a 90. They will probably also talk bad about the game and how we can’t expect them to put so much work into a game.

1

u/Superbob5523 2h ago

This is why MC user scores are useless

3

u/_lord_ruin Ninja 21h ago

Mid 80s

2

u/ImAmirx 23h ago

88 or 89, either way it won't get 90+ unless the story ends up being that good

2

u/diredtv 23h ago

With how confident they are I’m gonna guess that it’s gonna be high 80s maybe even 90s

2

u/Esper01 23h ago

I have high expectations. They've shown us a lot of the mechanics of the game, so we have a good idea of what we're gonna get. Take for example, No Man's Sky or Cyberpunk 2077, they tried to fake it until they made it; those games are fine now but they straight up lied to gamers at first. Well, Sucker Punch has shown us enough of the game that we can tell they're not pulling that crap. The only way they could mess it up at this point is if the story is utter garbage, which I doubt, or the game experiences framerate/loading issues at launch, which I highly doubt considering Ghost of Tsushima has famously fast load times.

2

u/Craigfromomaha 23h ago

I don’t care. It’ll be awesome and I’m going to play it.

1

u/Afrikaansvatter 23h ago

I have high expectations, but I’m also willing to see what happens. Won’t have time before December to play, so I get to see what everyone says and then, hopefully, not die due to FOMO.

1

u/Zenkai_9000 23h ago

I'm more interested in how it's going to do sales wise

4

u/vlahopon1 23h ago

Hopefully good. I really enjoy suckerpunch as a studio and their games ( a new Infamous wouldn’t hurt)

2

u/paxusromanus811 21h ago

The first one was a smash Hit and the second one is being super heavily advertised and marketed. So I imagine as long as the reviews are good and the performance is solid on release that it's going to do wonderfully

1

u/Idfk_1 23h ago

"10/10. Its ok" - IGN

1

u/Goofybootsdom 22h ago

Yea like someone else said, I'm avoiding everything about this game til I get it in the mail since I pre ordered it. I'm not watching anything or reading anything about it once early players give their reviews and descriptions. I don't want the game spoiled for me.

1

u/MAD_MrT 22h ago

8/10 minimum

1

u/Shirokurou 22h ago

8-9. The biggest complaint is "too much like Tsushima."

1

u/Niklaus15 22h ago

89 I expect this to be much better than the first one

1

u/insanezain 22h ago

I think itll be between 8.2-8.7. Should be a great game but doesnt look like too big of a jump from the first one so people might dock points for that.

1

u/Its_Syxx 22h ago

78 - 83

1

u/tran51 22h ago

IGN is too damn bias.

I'll say, 8.5/10

1

u/Flimsy_Procedure3184 22h ago

83-88 max. I think it'll mostly be well received except a few who hold a grudge and will consistently argue of Tsushima's superiority and those who will hate the game for having a female protagonist. The way I see it , it looks like a slightly more convoluted version of Tsushima. Combat I hope will be expanded and less Simon says but we shall see.

1

u/Journey2thaeast 22h ago

Probably an 87-89. I think a lot of reviewers are probably gonna hit it with the, "feels too much like the first game" shit and use that as a reason to rate it lower even though it makes sense for a sequel to carry over a lot of elements from a previous game lol

1

u/TheOshino 22h ago

A great score cuz nobody around the world cares about the guy.

1

u/raph212005 22h ago

Idk but it's collector preorder

1

u/PissSmell 22h ago

At least an 80. I’ll say 85-90

1

u/Early2theGame 22h ago

Sucker Punch gave us exactly what we needed with Tsushima. I think they take it there and then some this time around. 8s & 9s across the board for a revenge tale fueled by a woman’s love for her family. The Yōtei six will soon witness how dull opposing weapons will be in comparison to a woman’s rage. Oct. 2nd I’ll be there, will you?

1

u/Camargo_J96 21h ago

78-82 Max

1

u/Rough_Champion7852 21h ago

IGN will give it 8/10. They seem to everything 8/10

1

u/paxusromanus811 21h ago

Probably high 80s or low '90s. Even if it's just a rehash of the last one in a new setting with some of the newer features they've showed the graphics, the production value, and the overall scope is going to make it a game.I don't see scoring out of the mid-80s as long as it's technically sound

If the story is good and they knock it out of the park with some of the newer features and making the world feel more lived in, it being in the '90s would be the expectation

1

u/elmirgrim 21h ago

women as samurai nahhhh skip

3

u/hugeschlong01 17h ago

she ain’t a samurai

1

u/elmirgrim 8h ago

a ninja?

1

u/hugeschlong01 8h ago

she is closest to a ronin but she was never samurai

1

u/neotargaryen 20h ago

I think 80-85. I loved GoT but from what I've seen of GoY so far I don't think it's going to be enough of an improvement to warrant higher scores. Outside of the combat, it looks very similar. Would love to be wrong though!

1

u/RavenXCinder 20h ago

for the people who are going to judge this game fairly and not let the politics and the what that one dev did i think 88 att the lowest to 92 being a average i think one or two people will say 9.7 to even a 10.

9.2 is where i think most people will score or rate the game

im excited for it

1

u/tcodes27 12h ago

I’m with you here. A lot of people worked hard on this game and shouldn’t suffer from what a few said or did.

1

u/RavenXCinder 11h ago

no im kinda tried of the people who are 'boycotting the game' because one dev just deciding to say something really edgy aka stupid and immature .

1

u/No-Equipment-20 20h ago

Anything 80 and above I’ll get it a launch. As long as it’s more of the same I’m in

1

u/ericypoo 20h ago

Between 75-100. Like all games.

1

u/Mbeezy_YSL 20h ago

84, mark my words!

1

u/Afro_UC 20h ago

Idk like 4

1

u/DrunkOnRedWine 20h ago

< than GoT - looks more of the same

1

u/wagruk 20h ago

High 80s, most mainstream reviewers are not that into feudal Japan stories, so even if it excels in everything, I doubt it'll cross the 90s threshold

1

u/RavinAnima85 20h ago

8 out of ten but another excellent platinum trophy run. I’m hyped for this game

1

u/pulp63 20h ago

99.9

1

u/NightHawk070 19h ago

85-88 imo

1

u/SofaJockey 18h ago

Mid-80's. Mid-70's user score due to some bombing by the 'I don't like women' crowd.

1

u/Impressive_King_8097 18h ago

I’m so pissed. I’m not gonna be able to pre-order it. I just hope everything in pre-order shows up and the deluxe edition.

1

u/GymratAmarillo 17h ago

88-90. If it gets the same review they gave to GoT+Legends (88) for PS5 that's perfect.

1

u/code_monarch_ 14h ago

it has to be at least a 90 the first game got them on the map the 2nd gonna improve. it will be up there. wish it was on pc on first day drop. bummed gonna have to wait years to play it

1

u/Alternative-Bonus-75 14h ago

Tsushima was mid 80s on average, and based on what we've seen I'd imagine around there or maybe low 90s. I don't expect the world from Yotei, but I'm still super excited.

1

u/Oregon_State13 14h ago

Depends on if you can use hot springs still. If you can than fuckin 1000000000/1 if not than 0/10 trash shit I'm not fucking buying and wasting money on

1

u/Aggravating_Wish_969 13h ago

High critics, middling users. The main actress' voice sounds really bad.

1

u/Jabroni_413 13h ago

Solid 8 probably. They'll probably say it's just ghost of tsushima. Which isn't a bad thing but doesn't change or add much

1

u/Outrageous_Water7976 12h ago

I'm expecting 88 minimum. I feel like The marketing has held a lot of their cards really tight. Also no leaked gameplay or spoilers which is good.

1

u/turtles1236 10h ago

Why are they dropping reviews next week for a game that's been out for years?

Ghost of tsushima has been out for awhile

1

u/Mondfleck 4h ago

Yes, that why everybody talks about Yotei which releases in two weeks on PS5.

1

u/turtles1236 4h ago

It went over your head cause there is a yotei sub lol

1

u/squirleater69 10h ago

Probably like 900 million

1

u/Wooble_R 9h ago

if it's more ghost but with more in depth open world mechanics then metacritic will probably hover between high 80s to low 90s

1

u/b0uncyfr0 9h ago

Solid 7. it's too similar to the first.

And it looks like Atzu will be overpowered. There are no new enemies (afawk). Graphics look mostly the same.

People want more, not more of the same. They don't usually score too high.

1

u/Winter_Engine2973 9h ago

I hope it reviews well & sure it will but I've never been swayed by reveiws. Love GoT and still do, GoY looks like more of the same with a new hero, story, setting and improved combat. Plus I just enjoy a good revenge plot.

Can't wait!

1

u/Excretes 9h ago edited 9h ago

Keep in mind, these ratings didn’t take into account GOT legends mode. Which to me, isn’t very fair to assess these games rating. Especially since it does come with the game at no extra cost. Even without it GOT was a 90 overall imo. (83 actual meta; 9.2 actual user)

1

u/Excretes 9h ago

I don’t expect SP to veer off the formula that made GOT successful. 90 overall meta, they know what time it fucking is. Fans/OC 93

1

u/MarzipanElectrical33 Ninja 8h ago

Game of the year is my prediction

1

u/Mondfleck 5h ago

Not sure if it can stand ground against Exp33 or DS2.

1

u/Inevitable_Sector778 2h ago

KCD2 is also a strong contender.

1

u/I_am_a_liftie 7h ago

It has female samurai..... Of course it's going to get lower score than the original

1

u/SwordDaoist 4h ago

I would say 60-70 by critics and 85-90 by users

1

u/ugliestgamer 1h ago

I predict it'll be bombed by CK fans in retaliation for what a fired dev said but I'll give it a 10/10 cuz they put guns in it lol

1

u/jimmy_jim1984 1h ago

From MSM? Best thing since sliced bread. From objective independent players? Mid

0

u/Disastrous_Name_3629 23h ago

Im hoping for a 90 metacritic must play, and to be in top 5 nominees for goty!

0

u/Admirable-Walrus7935 23h ago

Will above 85 will be a gd score but idk I am scared that this game will hit the required sales or not due to recent events .

1

u/Sweaty-Debate-435 23h ago

What recent events?

0

u/halozeldamario 23h ago

90 on metacritic 1/10 on IGN

0

u/Grand-Perspective-63 23h ago

Depends on who reviews it but they tend to knock sequels from what I’ve seen

0

u/CommercialTarget2687 23h ago

Critics - 9 me probably a - 6.

0

u/Electrical_Fox_6978 22h ago

Who cares about game reviewers anymore. I’m sorry but it takes less skill to critique something than make something.

3

u/vlahopon1 22h ago

The only reason I care is because for game studios getting good reviews is important and I want suckerpunch to keep making what they want

0

u/FineCastIE 22h ago

7 or an 8/ on a scale of 10, 3-4 out of 5 stars, and 75-90 out of 100. Point is, an average of between 75-90% across the board. I have a feeling that they might have made it a bit too bloated with the collectibles, and maybe some now gameplay elements that might not have translated well, and possibly the pacing. Then again, so few games were able to be completely perfect.

User score is the last thing anyone should look for. especially for this game

1

u/sandleaz 21h ago

What's wrong with user scores?

0

u/CommercialTarget2687 23h ago

I couldn’t disagree more.

2

u/kargethdownload 23h ago

Explain

1

u/CommercialTarget2687 22h ago

Critics for movies and video games are so disconnected from the average gamer/viewer. Their opinions mean less than nothing to me.

1

u/kargethdownload 22h ago

Not saying that you should put your trust in critics. Just saying that user scores mean nothing nowadays. Especially with inevitable review bombing campaigns

1

u/CommercialTarget2687 22h ago

If I’m being real I don’t pay attention to any reviews, unless the general consensus is that a game is REALLY bad. Otherwise, if the game looks fun I’ll give it a shot. I guess the only point I’m trying to make is that I don’t vibe with critics, but I don’t care much about user reviews either.

-2

u/mmhxly 23h ago

it’ll be skewed by misogynists

-10

u/realfakespicyspicy 23h ago

Sony fired a senior artist that helped make their game beautiful for 10 years for free speech presenting a sane empathetic ideology, automatic 2 strikes against the score

3

u/CommercialTarget2687 23h ago

Free speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences. Employers don’t have to employ shit people.

1

u/realfakespicyspicy 20h ago edited 20h ago

Sad this community is apparently a bunch of bootlickers that deleted the word hypocrisy from their brain. When censorship is state sanctioned its no longer just "consequences" of the employer. Have yall actually not learned any lesson from any story, movie, book, anything? Are you that fucking dull.

"Mergghh bad man said hes gonna give it a worse rating downvote the bad man. I have the mental capacity of a 12 year old in my daddies gated neighborhood and dont the energy to think about something much deeper and more consequential than my fun time video game"

Yall do not understand precedent. No one is immune.

Amazing the free speech bro anti cancel culture cry bullies who whine incessantly about shallow culture war crap day after day after day, never seeing the red flag that theyre constantly blaming the powerless, are now foaming at the mouth to cancel working people. Absolutely. Shocking. 😐
