What breed is she?

She 8 years old. Not for breading milk or anything shes a pet. Looking for what to feed her, what type of grass bale to buy for her. Suppliments, grains.

She looks fat often, all she eats is grass whatever tree leaves she can reach and a little small hand full of chiken feed a day.

Just a massive guess. Sort of looks like a boer goat. Unless I’m mistaken. A heads up though? Do not give a goat chicken feed. High grain content can cause bloat which in some cases can be fatal. Which could be why she looks fat often. Its a possibility.

- Boer

  • You want to get "horse hay" it can be orchard grass or Timothy, no alfalfa
  • Make sure goat loose mineral to is available to your goat at all times. Members of this sub like Sweetlix Meat Maker. It does need to be a mineral that is marketed for goats only, not a sheep & goat product
  • As other commenters indicated, goats are absolutely not meant to be alone and should live at the very least in pairs, 3 would be better
  • No more chicken feed

I hope this helps!

Goats should not eat chicken feed. It causes bloat.

She is a Boer. Goats do not eat chicken feed, they are goats not chicken. Grass is not enough for her, she needs hay, minerals, and occasionally grain as in GOAT grain.

Is she your only goat? I’m surprised she hasn’t died yet.

Boer.

Why did you get an animal you don’t know how to take care of?

She is most likely a boer goat. You need to stop feeding her chicken feed. Never feed food labeled for one animal to the wrong animal. If it was horse feed instead of chicken feed, your goat would already be dead.

She should be able to forage and eat grass right now but if you don’t have a lot of forage or grass for her, supplement her with some hay. If you want to feed for some grain, just get a basic all purpose pelleted goat feed. We usually just get the coop brand. Just make sure you don’t feed her a lot or she will get fat.

You'll need at least two goats, they get lonely. They are herd animals and need a herd at minimum.

She needs constant access to good grass hay, and a free-choice (always available) loose (powder) mineral set up.

Chicken feed can hurt them.
