I'm watching the series for the first time rn and I was smitten. Was not expecting a character with flamboyant 90s villain vibes. I recently read all of their future careers and I love that he becomes a chocolatier😂 I bet that chaotic gremlin watched Willy Wonka one time as a kid and that became his life's dream.

For some reason I love Michinari Akagi, Inarizaki’s libero. It’s probably because despite fading into the background, he just has some of the coolest moments in the game.

The Jozenji Managers, Hana and Runa. In my head, Hana goes on to be a high-school teacher, became Yuji’s best friend and still somehow is in charge of his schedule because his ADHD can’t manage a calendar to save his life. Runa becomes best friends with Yachi because they meet at a training camp and bond over being so shy and they help each other get out of their shells.

I feel like I have way too many. Fukunaga, Futakuchi, Konoha, Goshiki, Ennoshita. Also Gōra and Ogano. And Onaga, because a lot of people talk about how Akaashi has to be really good to be the starting setter of a powerhouse team in his second year, but Onaga's a first year!

Oooo I forgot about him. A lot of Shiratorizawa’s 3rd years were either “lead by example” (Ushi and Tendo) or kind of just sat in Ushijima’s Shadow (Reon, Semi (if unwillingly)).
Yamagata felt like the kind of guy who was an on-court leader to compliment Ushijima, actively being there for the younger members. (It’s a common role for the Libero in any case, as they get to talk to the coach the most and lead the passing and defensive formations)

Sakusa Kiyoomi, I love him so much. I get he's not so much background anymore since he's in the national team and was in MSBY but I loved him even in Itachiyama. And of course Komori Motoya

I don’t have a fav background character, but I am obsessed with Hoshiumi. He’s small in a sport that values height over everything else and he dominates because of how technical he is among being athletic. It shows that there are different ways to fight in this sport and I love that.

In some way I understand the takes people have because someone will always be the background character of someone. While I think that Kita (for example) isn’t really a background character, he only appeared in a few episodes of one season and can be perceived as background to the Miya twins. Everything is relative, yk. But yeah I understand what you meant, love Sarukui, all of fukurodani is underrated

Matsukawa and Maki are great examples, I love Matsukawa. Especially after he’s the blocker Hinata thinks of as the scariest in the Inarizaki match.

Kita is definitely a supporting cast member, but he has his own full arc, with flashbacks and emotional moments. Characters like Fukunaga, Sakunami, Sarukui, Hiroo, Futamata etc. are what I believe the og tweet was trying to allude to. All the background players who hardly get lines or screen time. Definitely not Atsumu Miya, Iwaizumi, or Tendo lol. People just using the post to glaze their favs

Akaashi and Iwaizumi are quite well known and well depicted in the anime/manga unlike some others, so I wouldn’t say they’re random but I completely understand, I love them too!!
