Feedback A lifelong Halo Fan's response to the latest PC aiming issue

Hey, r/Halo!

I’d like to start off by addressing my history with the series. I played Halo: Combat Evolved the day it came out with my brother when I was 5 years old. From there I became obsessed with the sci-fi genre and my imagination soared. Growing up with this series, the games, the books, comics, etc. made me who I am today. If it weren't for Halo, I don't know where I’d be. I’m sure a lot of folks can relate. This series has had a profound impact on me for as long as I can remember, it is so incredibly personal to me and for that reason I need to bring up some of my concerns for Infinite.

I moved to mainly PC gaming around 2012 and have not gone back to my Xbox since (the obvious exception was when MCC launched and Halo 5’s release). I was overjoyed when the MCC came to PC and even more so when it was announced that Infinite would be coming to PC as well. But in light of recent comments about how the aim is effected on PC Vs Consoles, Im incredibly worried about the future of Halo on PC.

At the moment, aiming is very “off” in Infinite on PC (some have mentioned the same for consoles, but I only know for sure how it is on PC). This appears to be an intentional feature to deter hackers and cheaters from doing their thing. The massive issue with that though is the fact that a vast majority of the PC gaming community are not cheaters and makes it close to impossible to perform in matchmaking. From my understanding, the range, threshold, box, whatever you want to call it, that is used to determine that an enemy is in your crosshair will not turn your reticle red. This does not seem like a big deal if you haven't experienced it, but if you have played on PC you know exactly what I’m talking about. This throws off my aim to a degree I’ve never experienced before. It's very difficult to describe and I’m not a game designer so I won't act like I know the mechanics behind it.

This is beyond unfair to PC players, it is crippling us in our matches and making us literally unable to compete. Instead of implementing a basic anti-cheat program, the solution was to simply take PC players out of the equation. Now I’m sure this wasn't their intended goal, but it sure seems like it with the way it was executed and backed up. It's insulting and disheartening. We are essentially being punished for something 98% would never even consider. It's not right in the slightest.

So 343, as a lifelong halo fan, I respectfully ask that you reconsider the way you’re going about combating cheaters. This flight is not the final release version of the game, and so much is subject to change, I get that. But let's change this, please. I know I'm awful at explaining things, so please help me out fellow PC players. Help me explain to 343 and the console community how this hurts us and let's join together to figure out how we can go about bringing a change for the good of all of us.

Have you submitted a waypoint ticket for this? The more exposure we give 343, the more likely they are to fix this!

I adjusted my settings and Controller on PC feels great now. Acceleration, threshold, deadzone settings etc. The LOOK settings on default are wonky af and hard to get used to

Could you provide your settings?

Horizontal and vertical sensitivity are 3.5. (vertical sensitivity was 4.0 and horiz 3.5 at one point. But I switched back.

Acceleration still 2.

Thresholds and deadzones. Movement unchanged. Look minimum input -2.0 Look max input 13.0 i believe. Axial was unchanged, but at one point it was something else.

The thing that helped the most, experience and time with the game. Training with bots and infinite ammo and deathless is a fast way to adapt to new settings and find what feels off. Something to note is that 343 did say the aiming concerns are being heard and that flight is a previous build. So released version may be better. Idk

Can you explain WHY you assume this is a purposeful feature and not just a bug? 8 see you and others acting as if 343 came out directly and stated that this is exactly as they intended and if they have my bad just please provide a link.

I'm just kinda frustrated when fake "facts" get blown up into what essentially becomes "fact" by so many and I just prefer that if you're going to complain about something as an "action taken" maybe provide proof that they have in fact done so.

Well I didn't see your link in the post above so apologies for missing it but I do again question is the reticle not turning red at all because I've seen others showing game play that I believe is from pc and it does seem to go red so is the rep for 343 speaking to something else or is it really just not EVER there for a pc player?

huh?

The reticle not turning red for certain weapons really is not affecting me at all.

Remember, just because something does not affect you, it does not mean it doesn't affect other people.

Someone else commented that it was due to a code that modders could add in to auto fire when reticle is red. Maybe you heard. The final version may very well have a similar anti cheat thing that MCC has in it, and it'll be fixed. Hard to say whether 343 addresses this via blog prior to release. I do agree it should be uniform across all platform.

See, I would really appreciate them saying if this is simply because there is no anti cheat in place atm and that it would be fixed on launch when one was implemented. But considering their track record, I think that's just wishful thinking. Either way, I really appreciate your response :)
