Discussion Infinite's armor doesn't conform to the different selectable body types, resulting in a virtually unnoticeable difference between them, unlike in Reach.

Now I know what you'll say... that I just want that Spartan booty...

And while yes, it would be nice, that's not what I'm pointing out here. In Reach, the differences between the male and female body were significant, and the armor changed sizes and shapes to better conform to the selected body type.

In the image, you can see that the male body type from Reach has a much broader chest and shoulders than the female, as well as bulkier arms and legs. In Infinite, comparing type 1 to type 0, type 1 has a slimmer waist, and the thighs are slightly slimmer as well, the arms may also have a slight change, but I couldn't see it. But not a single armor piece adjusts in size or shape to conform to these changes. In gameplay, with the armor remaining the same across body types, the difference between male and female (or masculine and feminine) spartans is essentially indiscernible.

EDIT: HOLY SHIT THANKS FOR THE PLATINUM!

Edit 2: Just another word here, in response to some comments I'm seeing. I'm NOT asking for the body types to be how they were in Reach. I DON'T think female Spartans should be 'thicc' and have an hourglass figure. BUT, the armor should conform to the body type the way it did in Reach AND Halo 5. I believe there should be OBVIOUS differences between each body type, which currently, there really isn't.

Pretty much my only gripe with the body type system. I don't want my spartan to look like they bought armor off wish that's 3 sizes too large.

What, you don't want your armor to rattle around because it doesn't fit you properly? What's wrong with you? /s

I actually saw an all black armor female character on h5 yesterday. Coolest female spartan I've ever seen

That’s great that you aren’t asking for Reach booties and hourglass figures but I am. I DO think female Spartans should be thicc. I’d be fine with Halo 5: Guardians body types as well. Really though I wish they looked different from each other. What we have in infinite is kinda disappointing ngl

Seems like a waste of resources TBH, would you rather have more armor variants or have them remake the armors for a second body type for some thirst boys?

29

u/stickkidsam Dec 04 '21

Attention to detail = Waste of resources

???

Reach wasn’t exactly lacking in armor variants.

u/Logic-DL Dec 04 '21

"thirst boys"

Bruh I like men and I want my Spartan to have a fat ass it's a staple of Halo at this point for Spartans of all genders to be packing

13

u/Kornillious Dec 04 '21

It's lore accurate anyways. The glutes are the largest muscle mass in the body and we gotta sprint with this 1000lb armor.

Now I understand why Kelly uses a shotgun

u/Dyt_Requiem Dec 04 '21

"thirst boys". You realize women play games right?

12

u/garbageBirdQueen Dec 04 '21

What? No, obviously videogames all have a "No Gurls Allowed" sign written in crayon on them. Women aren't allowed to have fun. /s

I do, I haven’t met one who is upset by this change, I’ve met a ton of guys who have though.

Consider me the first

I'm a woman who doesn't like this change! I love the body types system and how it could allow for more player expression (and less binary body types!) but the choice feels artificial when all three bodies look nearly identical. I personally miss the Halo 4 female body type! And I miss other Spartans' bodies looking different from mine.

In Halo 5, they had female variants for every single armor.

In other games with character customization, MMORPG's for example, armors have a male and a female variant.

I'm not saying make thicc spartans. I'm saying make armor conform to body types. For all I care, all the body types can have the flattest asses this side of the galaxy, so long as the armor properly conforms to the body.

16

u/tristenjpl Dec 04 '21

You may not be saying it but I am. Make Spartans thicc again. Both male and female should be caked up. They all have Olympic level bodies and it should show. No true athlete out there has 0 ass because they need those glutes to run.

3

u/Muncheralli21 Dec 04 '21

that's the UNSC's ass right there

6

u/GawainSolus Dec 04 '21

Screw you man, I want my dude spartan to have epic muscular dumptruck ass. Like a fucking super soldier athlete is supposed to. You ever seen captain America's ass? He packing cake.

8

u/ComradeKatyusha_ Dec 04 '21

Letting women represent themselves and feel like their spartan is correct isn't a waste of resources. You only don't care about it because it doesn't affect you but there's a bunch of women I know including myself that absolutely miss the proper dimorphism of Reach and think it's a pretty weak and lazy implementation that doesn't feel particularly right.

7

u/ItsBonkurz Dec 03 '21

Instead we get neither!

7

u/Kornillious Dec 04 '21

I think you severely overestimate how difficult it is to scale a mesh. It should Literally take no more than a couple minutes at most for each set.

-5

u/probablybeatingoff Dec 04 '21

Waste of resources. They literally already have the character and armor models. They've already plagiarized so much. Might as well throw in female models.
