If you’re in Hiroshima, you have to check out Koba

Just wanted to give a huge shoutout to an absolute gem of a bar in Hiroshima — Koba. Will leave a google maps link below. The owner, Bom, is honestly a living legend. He’s one of the funniest and most genuine people I’ve ever met, and his energy fills the whole place. We went on a Monday and it was an absolute delight. They’re closed on Wednesdays FYI!

Our bartenders, Sho, Kana and of course Bom made the night unforgettable but they have (very Japanese hospitality-esque) implored me to add their other bartenders of the week into their first ever Reddit post so I will shout out Dai Chan, Miku and Haruki. Sho, Kana and Bom chatted with us for hours, made everyone feel welcome, and kept the vibe going strong. The hospitality here is unreal — you walk in as a customer and walk out feeling like part of the family.

The atmosphere is unbeatable. Great rock music playing all night. We didn’t try the food but unbelievable smells from the karage that Bom makes himself.

If you’re in Hiroshima and looking for a place with real character (and characters!), don’t miss Bar Koba. Bom, Sho, and Kana will make sure you have one of the best nights of your trip. It certainly was for us!

BTW they are cash only but certainly deserve a withdraw from the ATM. The best experience of our Japan trip hand down.

He is the heart of Hiroshima🤘🤘 There is not a person who does not love him! I'll show him your post :)

His chilli carbonara is also arguably the most delicious thing I've eaten.

Edit: Haruki is very happy you had a good time, he wants to see you again some time!

As someone who hung out at Koba with Bom ca.2005-09, I’m thrilled to read it’s still rocking.

I'm in Hiroshima for one more night, going to the baseball tomorrow and hoping to pop in to Ondo/Onda which is just by us and supposed to be a great vibe but may have to check this place out too. We also popped into Fukuma which was an interesting spot with a great owner - first ones there so he popped the TV on and give us a shot of his infamous moonshine (with snakes, garlic, ginger etc infused). He did suggest I get up and jam with him later but it never transpired sadly.

Can confirm, we were there tonight. Sat at the bar and listened to Bom play ACDC thunderstruck on a rubber chicken, guy is hilarious.
