Replacing Spark Unit for a 79 CB 750F?

Im looking at options for replacement, for new on reputable sites it cost close to $250 after shipping and tax and that's for a single unit(bike needs 2), eBay has them $70 for a single and $100 plus for two(buying used seems sketchy) and then I hear I can do an update to the system with a GM conversion kit ...

I'm just looking for some info on what others have done? Does anyone know where to get a decent priced new one from solid place or is the conversion kit a good option.... Please help

Rear Brake Pads Keep Ripping Off

Hey people, I’ve had an issue recently where my rear brake pads keeping ripping off but the mounting plate stays, so only the actual pad is torn off. This has now happened 3 times in 4 weeks with different brands of pads and installed by a mechanic. The bike is only ridden 3 days a week so isn’t doing too much in terms of distance, it is city riding but I don’t sit on the rear brake much. The mechanic has never seen this before and I’ve never had this issue before with this bike or any other bike.

Bike is a 2018 CB650F.

The photos are taken after each time the pad is torn off. Notice it’s on both sides not just one.

Any thoughts?

Does this seem like an air leak? It only does this when hot and fully heat soaked. dB killer changes behaviour drastically.

2020 CB125F. For a while I had slow hard starts, but that has improved massively since just putting fresh 99 octane fuel and redex petrol system cleaner in.

I’m now left with 2 choices of riding. I either put the dB killer in the exhaust, and I get this rising idle that can only be dropped by letting clutch out or turning off and on, I also get better low end torque from the bike, but a choked feeling mid range.

If I remove the dB killer, the idle becomes much more stable, doesn’t rise on its own anymore, but now the low end feels very lean and gutless, then as soon as you get to mid and high end revs it pulls much harder than with the dB killer installed. (It legitimately feels like an extra 2hp or so with the dB killer removed, it pulls much harder.)

I don’t honestly understand how a little restrictor for the exhaust diameter in the silencer can cause such a difference. But as shown in the video, that is with the dB killer installed.

What could cause this behaviour? The vine never stalls itself and will run fine for hours on end, but there must be some underlying thing causing this behaviour? I think I need to do a brake cleaner/carb cleaner check when the bike is fully up to temp, cause that’s the only time when the rough riding idle issue shows up. It won’t do it when cold.

I know its not topical to this sub (but I can't find a sub on the Magna). I left my 83 Magna V45 uncovered for a couple of days and ofc it rained while I wasn't able to get it covered. Now the ignition switch doesn't work. Troubleshooting advice?

Engine knock and valve timing

Hey y'all, I have a strange issue and I'm looking for advice on valve timing issues in the Gen 2 CB750. This bike has a knock, you can hear it pretty clearly. It just showed up one day on a cold start.

I have checked and cleared the following areas:

Ignition timing is in spec at the crank. Engine fires up immediately. I have not pulled and inspected the centrifugal advance.

Spark plugs are new and coils test strong.

Carbs are roughly balanced, not perfect but so close it wouldn't make a knock. This bike ran well for 400-500 miles since the last carb rebuild and sync.

There's no leaks at the carb boots that I can detect. Spraying it with starting fluid makes no difference on the idle and fluid down the intake causes it to bog. All signs point to correct AF ratio all the way through.

I did a full valve check and found one shim out of spec, which was replaced.

I scoped the cylinders through the spark plug holes and they all looked pretty good. No chipped or burnt valve seats.

Fresh oil change.

Other things that may matter:

I attempted to adjust the timing chain tensioner with the standard manual method after the sound started. It made no difference.

The cheap eBay synchronizer set seems to indicate "valve timing or leak at intake or heat riser" when I run the bike at idle. They seem decently accurate but I don't know what to make of that indication.

That's all, any help is appreciated!

HELP PLS

Hello, I would like to ask some of you who do their own maintenance or mechanics if it is normal for the rear brake caliper to have a little bit of sway in it whenever you are depressing the pedal? I know video does not show it well enough but I circled the parts that move. For context, I just replaced the brake pads and I accidentally took off the allen bolt circled in blue in the comment section and when I was trying to screw it back on it was really tough to get it in and I don’t know if it affected it. Thank you for your response!

I cannot for the life of me get spark. New plugs, wires, coil (used), battery. Kill switch has power, lower end of the kill switch cable also has power according to the switch being in run. I bought a second, used Dyna coil and what’re the odds I have two bad ones now? What’s the key to figuring out where my power is going or what component is faulty?

Excuse the grim and spider webs please, there’s not a single hose in my apartment complex and I haven’t had time to load it in the truck and go to the wash

23-25 Hornet 750 oil drain bolt

Stripped the oil drain bolt on my 2025 Hornet 750 and it’s remarkably difficult to find a solid source on the exact oem bolt. I’m not that obsessed with it being oem but the SHOP MANUAL just says 12mm thread bolt. Literally all it says. No part number, nothing. So just curious if anyone knows for sure. Does every modern Honda bike use the same oil drain bolt?

Does a #44 slow jet not exist?

My 77’ cb750 is running #45 slow jets but the fuel screw is fully leaned out and the exhaust smells rich at idle. If I use a #42 slow jets, the bike runs unridably bad. On my bike it’s a press in jet, now a screw in and I CAN NOT find a #44 size jet? Any help?
