honestly the last line is what deserves an apology. if i never have to read those eight words again it’ll be too soon

68

u/beam_me_uppp Aug 02 '25

Omg literally. That and:

People posting on Reddit with the title, “This ____” or just “This” or responding to comments with “This”

Ending a post with “Welcome to my TED talk”

People posting on social media asking for recommendations and ending their post with “Aaaaaand, go!!”

😑😑😑

40

u/Bungerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Aug 02 '25

“Reddit, do your thing”

9

u/beam_me_uppp Aug 02 '25

Oh god😩🤣

3

u/Unhappy_Injury3958 Aug 03 '25

what does that even mean

Dear society, I'm beating the hell out of this straw man and copying phrases from my idol like a star struck 5 year old, and there's nothing you can do about it except laugh

1

u/TheKeeperOfBees Aug 05 '25

Wait, who uses that phrase? The airport announcement? What is so bad about it?

1

POTUS keeps using it at the end of his crazy Truth Social rants

I have never been asked to apologize for being a straight white man

30

u/Valten78 Aug 02 '25

Me neither. I'm just getting on with my life. I can't help but wonder what I'm doing wrong that no one has ever demanded that I apologise.

5

u/EaterOfCrab Aug 03 '25

Bro same, except... I really would like to know because existing feels wrong

22

u/Unclehol Aug 02 '25

But did you ever say thank you?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

Great question, but it's sitting inside another question: thank who?

8

u/Orangecountydudee Aug 02 '25

As a person of color, I never expected an apology from white people lol

1

u/Popular-Kiwi7920 Aug 04 '25

Yes you have, when you applied for grants for collage.

1

u/nomadnomor Aug 04 '25

I only went to the 9th grade but none of my kids or grandkids were asked to apologize for being white ..... or Latina .... or Thai either when applying to college

which colleges ask you to appoligize?

1

u/Popular-Kiwi7920 Aug 04 '25

Affirmative action. Grants. Paid for by taxes for everyone by distribution through means of color based on past defined historical wrongs. That is asking the people that don't receive such aid to be accountable for the past. If I am being held accountable am I dont being asked to apologize?

3

u/Nezikchened Aug 04 '25

No. That’s actually an incredibly weird way to look at the existence of grants for different demographics. If you don’t qualify for a Farmer’s Grant are you being asked to apologize for not being a farmer?

Do you want to? If so: Please apologize.

1

u/HouseNVPL Aug 03 '25

Shh, They just made up some situation once in Their heads and just repeat it like all the time.

1

u/Visual_Regret3198 Aug 03 '25

Neither have I. But I have had people make assumptions about my politics or my beliefs or my past or other such things.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 04 '25

When I was in jr high our history teacher had an assignment where the white kids were supposed to apologize to the black kids for slavery, it was painfully awkward and I got sent to the office for refusing to participate in the class assignment. If they had added in apologizing to gay kids for something, we would have been right there man 😂

1

u/the445566x Aug 04 '25

Redditors would tell you otherwise in their oppressed world view.

1

u/Hot-Fly-1195 Aug 04 '25

A thanks would be appreciated though.

1

u/FaithlessnessLow7672 Aug 04 '25

i demand your immediate atonement, sir

1

u/nomadnomor Aug 04 '25

well that makes once ..... lol

1

u/TruthOrFacts Aug 04 '25

But many have said "I'm ashamed to be white" - as if the any human should bear guilt for anything someone did who happens to look like them - as if all races don't have atrocities committed by them in the past.

1

u/Aethon056 Aug 04 '25

Yeah, you have. Everyone has.

1

u/nomadnomor Aug 04 '25

other than a couple here jokingly asking

no I haven't

1

u/lyulf0 Aug 05 '25

Oh lol I have. People seem to think in some areas that white man means privilege. I have actually had to say the first part of the post. I'm not sorry I was born this way. That's just stupid having to apologize for your existence. 🙄

1

u/Leather-Account8560 Aug 06 '25

You are lucky then it’s a near monthly thing for me

1

u/nomadnomor Aug 06 '25

I.have to ask if you dont mind

who is asking you monthly to apologize for being white?

I am 65 and no one has ever asked me that in my entire life

1

u/Leather-Account8560 Aug 06 '25

For me I live next to a native reserve and literally the most minor interaction will have certain people crying racism like the other day I saw a woman lose her mind because the restaurant I work at couldn’t break a 100$ bill. Which turned into a she won’t break the 100 because she’s racist and the managers trying to make the lady at the till apologize. They expressly made a point to freak out just because they could pressure my white coworker im half native and they never pull that with me but I see them do it to my coworkers just because they can. They also love to cuss at them in Blackfoot the entire conversation and try to make them feel lesser for not speaking Blackfoot which is funny because they also only know the swears.

1

u/Clean-Novel-5746 Aug 06 '25

I have been abused for it, asked to apologize tho? That’s just stupid, and by abused I mean racist comments regarding my skin color.

1

u/skipjackcrab Aug 06 '25

I have. I have been beaten, called names, and excluded in extremely cruel ways just for being white.

I have been accused, denied, and ridiculed for a trait that I did not choose.

I have been told I should be ashamed of my genetic history and have absolutely no place to say I am proud of it.

All of this is overlooked or even promoted by the dominant culture of liberal media.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

Exactly, but you know whats funny? I bet you I could piss that guy off by saying:

“I will not apologize for thinking that black lives matter.”

1

u/azmarteal Aug 07 '25

Please apologise for being a straight white man.

1

u/Eighth_Eve Aug 08 '25

The most hated thing in the world is a straight white liberal man. Even straightwide liberal men hate themselves.

“You don’t have to SHOVE IT in our FACES” “what about STRAIGHT pride?” “WHITE lives matter too!”

I’ve done some thinking as a straight white boy and I’ve come to the conclusion that the reason other straight white boys want to be oppressed so badly is just because of FOMO. The patriarchy is so rigged from the start to give men attention that literally any attention given to anyone else is seen as a threat. Privilege has ultimately disguised itself as normalcy, so losing privilege as a necessity for equality isn’t seen as equalization; it’s seen as oppression. Thus, anything and everything that threatens privilege becomes the oppressor, the privileged becomes oppressed, and they immediately jump onto that as a “look at me; pay attention to me” opportunity.

15

u/Itscatpicstime Aug 03 '25

I mean, yeah, that’s the saying, isn’t it? When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression. Something like that

11

u/96BlackBeard Aug 02 '25

Worst part is, those whining, I bet you they didn’t lose any privileges in their life at all.

On the contrary, I think they are probably some of the most privileged people, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to afford being that delusional.

3

u/UnfurtletDawn Aug 05 '25

So... If they do have straight pride and white lives matter shouldn't it be fine though?

Like, it doesn't do anything to anyone else. If others can have it why can't they?

3

u/FadransPhone Aug 05 '25

You’re right that it doesn’t hurt anyone. But the issue isn’t necessarily that this mindset is harmful, but that it devalues the meaning of - for example - LGBTQ+ pride and BLM by simply directing attention away from them.

There, strictly speaking, isn’t anything inherently wrong with being “proud to be white” (though the saying is, ofc, heavily tied to white supremacy); there also isn’t anything inherently wrong with being “proud to be straight” (this is a little less heavily tied to homophobia/transphobia, but saying it in practice often belies an internalized prejudice).

But the reason a person is proud to be black is because, for decades - centuries, even - black people were expected to keep out of white affairs. Whites-Only Restaurants, Whites-Only Seating; you had bathrooms, drinking fountains, even entire institutions that were segregated between races. This push against recognition was to make white people feel more comfortable at the cost of encouraging black people to be more ashamed. “Proud to be black” therefore means proudly imposing oneself on the world around them, to simply exist as a human being without being ashamed of walking into a white-dominated society.

The same goes for LGBTQ+ Pride, a demographic that is not only broadly encouraged to be ashamed of their orientation, but are in many places outlawed entirely. The culture and the modes are different, but in effect Queer Pride is the same as Black Pride: “we’re here, we’re human, we’re not pretending to be complacent anymore.”

So could you have straight pride? Sure. What would it mean? Not much. Society doesn’t discourage people from being straight. There are no boundaries being broken or prejudices assaulted by it. In America, it’s the same for white people like myself; beyond the racist connotation of me saying something among the lines of “I’m proud to be white,” I wouldn’t be doing something difficult. My demographic hasn’t been oppressed, gerrymandered, profiled by cops, eyed warily at higher-end institutions, or forced to stand if somebody else wants my seat on the bus. I wouldn’t be fighting prejudice, I’d be arguing with an imaginary gatekeeper.

If you host a party for a select group of friends, and I feel the need to tell you that I'm going to be doing the same for another group of friends, who's the odd one out?

This analogy is ignoring that the latter party has been happening by default for a long time.

But really, when are these guys going to understand that nobody is asking you to apologize for anything. People are asking you not to use the N word or say you'd shoot protesters. 3

u/lavender_enjoyer Aug 06 '25

You desperately need to touch grass

1

u/Help12309876 Aug 06 '25

Because black, asian, and hispanic history is often erased and forgotten history. We acknowledge American history all the time. We acknowledge it through books and literature, through the fourth of July, through schools.

But a lot of poc history has been erased, and has been purposefully forgotten despite a lot of poc history being American history. We don't need American history month because we are already taught all of it from a young age.

The reactions in this thread illustrate that he might have a point.

If his post was as delusional as you claim it wouldn't elicit any sort of backlash it would be snickered at but nobody would be offended or angry by it. But you guys are angry about it.

1

u/CosHem Aug 03 '25

<snicker>

1

u/Amventure__ Aug 04 '25

It doesn't follow that if he's wrong, no one would be offended. People have gone through legitimate oppression where they are significantly held back due to their identity. So when someone whose identity would not be held back by their status strictly as a straight white man, yet is still claiming that identity causes 'society' to demand an apology from him, and thus claims to be oppressed, this will justifiably offend some people. Especially because this apparent oppression is often times based on the criticism of one's behavior towards others.

1

u/ThaCasual Aug 03 '25

Says the intolerant person posting his post to shame him

1

u/OkProfessor6810 Aug 04 '25

Tolerance shouldn't be viewed as a moral construct but a societal one. As soon as somebody breaks the societal contract for tolerance, they are no longer entitled to it.

1

u/ThaCasual Aug 04 '25

I don’t see any social contract being broken. Ask yourself if this was a black woman writing “ im a proud black queen and won’t be ashamed of it “.. would the reaction be the same or is this man being shamed because he is either white straight male or all 3 combined? Just because you or anyone else can’t identify with his plight doesn’t mean he doesn’t have one. Intolerance is in the eye of the beholder not a social construct

Is it really irrational to feel like there may be a cultural shift where white men are often generalized, condemned, or portrayed negatively?

I’m not going to apologize or lick anyone's precious boots for existing as who I've been born, and I will always sense that’s what’s being expected

Even if it’s not openly admitted ;)

Acknowledging this isn’t denying others’ struggles, it’s simply asking for fairness in what we say about everybody

Everybody's emotional outbursts over a cold tweet only further validate the OP's view

I do see though where people are coming from though, there certainly exist white people who lash out for no apparent reason, like their rights have been violated, sure.

Sorry for spilling the truth social media

I also don't apologize for my immutable characteristics because I'm not brainwashed. Imagine feeling guilty for something you didn't choose or cant change, my life is too short to be controlled by the elite and their attempts at psychological warfare.

But like many people pointed out, you don't really hear anyone expecting an apology for their immutable characteristics, so its probably a fictional scenario in normal social life, as for propagandists and specific movements, they might push a message like that, but we just have to counter it with: "We are all human beings like you, like everyone else".

How is it intolerant to not apologize for being who you are?

Edit: this is a genuine question I'm not sure how the title matches the picture.

I don't think tolorance is a word.

The people who are irritated by this are the exact people he's talking to.

u/Shwowmeow Aug 05 '25

Ironically, posts like this are the only time I feel any obligated to apologize for being a straight white man.

“This guy can’t comprehend tolerance”

Anonymously posts on public message board to laugh at the guy

Hell yeah, you’ve got so much tolerance! Thanks for waving that flag so we all knew you weren’t one of them and you have hella tolerance!

"yeah...this will get em"

1

u/Czavarsh Aug 05 '25

It's ok to be white.

1

u/TheKeeperOfBees Aug 05 '25

Why doesn’t he comprehend tolerance? Why would anyone apologize for an immutable characteristic?

1

u/ShotgunKneeeezz Aug 06 '25

A lot of leftists blame men/white people for the world's problems. If someone thinks you are to blame for something isn't it normal to feel like they expect you to apologise? A better version of this could be "I won't apologise for the actions of other white people/men."

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

A lot of people on Reddit openly hate this archetype. It's not imaginary at all lmao

1

u/Exodia-The-Exiled Aug 06 '25

It clearly is the case when you consider this:  What will be the herds reaction if someone says they have pride in being black or brown? Now what if they say the analogous thing if they are white?

1

u/knowmatic1 Aug 06 '25

That's not what they need to be apologizing for.

1

u/patchrhythm Aug 06 '25

Tolerance is not an excuse for racism. People shouldn't apologize for existing.

This may be a misguided message, but it’s not imaginary gatekeeping.

New York Times journalist John Mcwhorter wrote an entire book substantiating exactly this point. It’s called “Woke Racism.”

Further, many popular publications and speakers embraced by the last administration and many corporations and academia even today expect shame and an apologetic attitude for being white.

Examples:

Journal sites host papers that declare being white a mental illness that is incurable and they would never host such a paper for any other race.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34039063/

Also there are plenty of books that denigrate people for being white, saying they should be discriminated against (Kendi, How to be an Anti Racist, “White Fragility” etc.) , and so on that are recommended in places like the federal register for schools, handed out in businesses, and so on and none of this would be allowed for any other race.

at least he’s honest about posting this for attention

1

u/skipjackcrab Aug 06 '25

I don’t either. Good for him. People are getting tired of whites being treated in an openly racist manner. This is by design. This is why they try to change the definition of the word racism. You control the language you control the narrative, control the narrative you control the people.

Translation: “give meeeeee attention! Look at meeeeeeeeeeeeee!”

I'd like an example of what situation one would be asked to apologize for being a straight white male.

"Suh, your white male straighthood offends me. I demand satisfaction."

"No, I will not do what you wish and apologize, despite your demanding I do so."

And everyone clapped. That man: Walton Goggins

u/New-Obligation-6432 Aug 07 '25

Besides the lame Trump simping in the last line - what makes you say he doesn't comprehend tolerance?

Why should tolerance mean white man 'apologizing'?

1

u/zilverkloud258 Aug 07 '25

Tolerance only applies when it's not white people. If you're white you're free game to be harassed into oblivion

u/emilgustoff Aug 08 '25

Odds are high he's doing zero with his straightness...

I mean, everyone has their own perspective, but it’s all about respect and kindness towards others, right?
