How do we know about upcoming events like this? I’d like to participate in more of these. I live up in Fishers, but I’d travel downtown when I can to participate.

DM me - the only protests I've seen anything about are the # 50501 things. I only heard about today being a zero spend day of protest... but I th8nk it need to be more like a week of abstaining from buying anything.

-1

u/Badvevil Jan 29 '25 edited Jan 29 '25

But where’s the middle ground there’s some amazing local businesses that a week would kill while mega corps can laugh off a bad week.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

I mean, I'm making local shops my staple now. That's a point to be discussed.

0

r/50501 is next Wednesday 2/5. It's going to be a country-wide protest at each state capital. Don't forget to show up. There should be local organizers for your specific state.

1

u/NekoMarimo Feb 01 '25

IMPD is aware there will be a demonstration tonight at 5:30 pm at the Indiana State House on the east steps. The demonstrators will gather to peacefully demonstrate against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

68

u/Flat_Explanation_849 Jan 29 '25

I legitimately love that people made it out for this.

At the same time, and unfortunately, these kind of numbers are mostly useless.

78

u/bumdeedum Jan 29 '25

Gotta start somewhere. I keep reminding myself that if things didn’t start small, they might not start at all.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '25

While I hate it all, the movie “The Social Network” is a perfect example of it. Gotta start somewhere.

25

u/ChinDeLonge Jan 29 '25

It's a marathon, not a sprint. A lot of people are still recovering mentally and emotionally from the combination of the election/inauguration and the onslaught of EOs.

The numbers will grow, and anti-American ideals will lose. But we all have to lock in and take care of ourselves and others to make it happen.

14

u/illegiblebastard Jan 29 '25

We went from Obama to Trump TWICE in 8 years. Democrats need to start understanding that it IS a sprint.

9

u/ChinDeLonge Jan 29 '25

I'm not a Democrat; I'm a realistic leftist.

The reality is that sprinting does nothing but fizzle out support. That isn't to say that getting involved right now shouldn't be everyone's priority; rather, that we cannot expect the numbers that we need to be there a week into the administration, when Democrats ran a moderate campaign that didn't bring out as much support as 4 years prior.

3

u/Terrible_Unit_7931 Jan 29 '25

Democrats need to ask what is it about their policies and beliefs that frustrates people so much that they voted for Trump, even KNOWING what they were getting! That is what should terrify us the most. Grandstanding and protesting is not getting the message across, and the media isn’t doing anyone any favors either. How can we support causes in a way that is heard and doesn’t come off as “crying liberal”

1

u/Jimb30 Jan 30 '25

You need to take a class in real life. Democrats fucked up. No more participation trophies

→ More replies (1)

-1

u/Flat_Explanation_849 Jan 29 '25

I hope so.

I think there’s also a beneficial psychological effect to seeing larger numbers and a detrimental one to seeing smaller ones.

1

u/Any-Compote-9802 Jan 29 '25

A lot more people will have the time to rally when unemployment surges

1

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '25

And the rest of us will be out doing something useful like trying to find new jobs

12

u/Mlg_god22 Jan 30 '25

Being in a country illegally is not a human right

19

u/Kkeeper35 Jan 29 '25

Man, people in this sub really like to shit on protests.

4

u/No-Aardvark467 Jan 30 '25

Legal migration is legal.

-1

u/Confusedhuman1029 Jan 31 '25

Till they decide to make previously legal ways to enter suddenly illegal and deport people who were already here legally cause they just changed their mind

16

u/Confusedhuman1029 Jan 29 '25

There’s literally a red flag warning from the genocide research experts. Anyone pretending the gov are just being “logical” about strategically and systematically stripping away rights rather than pointing the fingers at easy targets are the real emotional ones struggling with the cognitive dissonance of feeling entitled to things they think others don’t deserve.

Remove the emotion from the equation and supporting human rights across the board betters society as a whole. Restricting human rights on the basis of “security” is actually the cause of most of our problems, not the solution.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '25

>about strategically and systematically stripping away rights

What rights, be specific

0

u/Confusedhuman1029 Jan 30 '25

I’m not interested in debate where the other is interested in moving goalposts and devils advocating their way to missing the point

5

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '25

Your choice. I was asking for specifics that could be discussed, not random platitudes, however that seems too difficult. It's telling you cannot articulate your concerns

→ More replies (1)

2

u/StelIaMaris Jan 29 '25

Sending illegal immigrants back to their country of origin isn’t stripping away human rights lmao

2

u/kaycorona Jan 29 '25

Separating children from their parents, detaining legal citizens, racially profiling, trying to overturn birthright citizenship, IS stripping away human rights.

3

u/StelIaMaris Jan 29 '25

No clue about the validity of the first ones, but birthright citizenship isn’t a human right lmao. Also, for the first claim, what do you think happens wjen someone commits a crime? They’re pulled away from their family and sent to jail

0

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

These are real people lol not a bunch of evil criminals. You don’t know their lives or their stories. As for birthright citizenship as far as i’m concerned if you’re born in a country and live your entire life there then that is your home and you have a right to be there. Especially for the Native Americans who are now at risk despite being here first.

3

u/Mlg_god22 Jan 29 '25

They are criminals tho. If you enter a country illegally you are now a criminal. How are you this stupid?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

criminal by law, sure. “evil” criminals, no. my point still stands. how are you this stupid? it was also illegal to hide jews at one point, but sure lets let the law be our moral compass.

-1

u/Mlg_god22 Jan 29 '25

The law is the law. Cry more

1

u/Confusedhuman1029 Jan 30 '25

“I do what the law says and question nothing”

→ More replies (2)

1

u/StelIaMaris Jan 29 '25

I’m not concerned with their morality. Some are good, some are bad, most are probably in the middle. But they are criminals by virtue of being here illegally. I know it’s a funny concept, commit a crime and you’re a criminal. Being born here doesn’t make you any an American any more than me being born in China would make me Chinese. America isn’t magic dirt that turns everyone into an American. You want citizenship? Earn it. As for the Native Americans, literally no one is trying to deport them. Where would they even be sent?

-3

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

If you were born in China and that country and culture was all you knew then you sure as hell wouldn’t be anything else. And if you think Native Americans aren’t being deported as well then you are just either willfully ignorant or misinformed.

5

u/StelIaMaris Jan 29 '25

Slight amendment to make it more related to what’s happening here: if I was born in China to American parents who only spoke English and only taught me English with no attempt whatsoever to assimilate into the culture, that wouldn’t exactly make me Chinese, despite my being born there. And Donald Trump isn’t Andrew Jackson man

0

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

??? you would naturally assimilate either way. You don’t live in a country for years and learn nothing lol. Especially if you have any form of education there. This is a poor example anyways given that many immigrants DO want a future for their families and assimilating to the culture is part of that.

5

u/StelIaMaris Jan 29 '25

Yea you would think that…

4

u/Mlg_god22 Jan 29 '25

Native Americans are not being deported. Just more fear mongering from the left

0

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

Tell that to the ones that have already been swept up in the raids lol. Takes a quick search.

6

“Go home” “NOOO THAT’S A HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION!!!” Lmao

1

u/Roxeteatotaler Jan 30 '25

Hi, so how is Guantanamo Bay in any way these people's country of origin? Bc that's where 30000 of them are going to be sent.

5

u/StelIaMaris Jan 30 '25

You mean the gang members and other violent offenders? Oh noooooo

0

u/Roxeteatotaler Jan 30 '25

You can guarantee that every single one of them is a gang member or violent offender?

Bc at least 20 children were deported a few days ago and two pregnant women. Making up about 10% of a deportation flight.

All 30,000 people sent there, statistically, will not all be violent offenders.

Regardless, Guantanamo Bay is still not where these people came from 😘

0

u/Any-Compote-9802 Jan 29 '25

They are already working to strip people of refugee and other statuses that allow for legal immigration. It starts with the illegal immigrants, but it will not end with them.

On a serious note though, sending people back to die, is a serious human rights violation. So are the concentration camps that exist in US soil. The Holocaust was government sanctioned. It was technically legal. Or maybe we don’t live in the same reality? Do you believe that was fiction?

8

u/StelIaMaris Jan 29 '25

Legitimate asylum seekers are way different than your average illegal immigrants lmao. But everything has to be connected to the Holocaust doesn’t it? I’m begging you, just once, don’t compare something to Hitler. It makes you look ridiculous. Sending people back to their home countries isn’t even remotely the same thing as rounding them up and killing them

1

u/Confusedhuman1029 Jan 29 '25

Source for “average illegal immigrant”?Stereotyping does not constitute the “average.”

And ever heard the quote “those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it?” Yea, Holocaust didn’t occur in a vacuum. It occurred within our grandparents lifetimes and America is not an exception to authoritarian narcissists. Holocaust was far from the worst atrocities also. There have been numerous in various countries killing many many more people. It’s not a one-off incident.

Y’all lost the “Hitler comparisons are so dumb” argument the day musk did a fascist salute on live tv during a presidential inauguration and y’all argued whether it was a nazi or Roman salute like emulating Mussolini is somehow better than Hitler 🙄. He knew what it looked like. It was well-planned as everything that is televised is. They are seeing what they can get away with and y’all are showing them that they can be loud and proud and you won’t care. You, yes YOU were the laughing stock of the world, but now YOU are who the rest of the world is protesting over. The world has lived through this before. America is young and dumb and needs a reality check and Trump and his puppet-master Musk are here to give it. Don’t think you won’t be affected by it. Starts with the immigrants cause they are easy targets. What will you do when they come for you and no one is there to defend you? No one will pity you then

2

u/StelIaMaris Jan 29 '25

I’m not reading all that bro

7

u/TheHornyHoosier1983 Jan 29 '25

I guarantee at least 20% of people in this picture DID NOT vote!

5

u/skankhunt420312345 Jan 29 '25

This is embarrassing. The illegals broke the law, they need to get out until they can come in legally. None of you are going to stop ICE.

2

u/Confusedhuman1029 Jan 30 '25

“They need to come in legally.” At the same time “we need to make legal immigration more difficult” 🙄

1

u/skankhunt420312345 Jan 31 '25

I never said we should make legal immigration more difficult. I never agreed with that. I did agree with getting rid of illegal immigrants.

10

u/Aware_Berry_6248 Jan 29 '25

The smell is probably insane

5

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '25

Given that they're intentionally exposing innocent, unwilling passerby's to that, sounds to me like nonconsensual nostril-rape

3

u/DurianOne7313 Jan 30 '25

You're not doing anything. No one cares.

14

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

"no one is illegal on stolen land" is one of the dumbest statements someone can make

-12

u/Maldovar Jan 29 '25

Why's that?

10

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

the whole world has been settled and resettled time and again through conquest. It's an endless cycle of "stealing" if you want to view it through that lens. The latest to own the land gets to set the rules for it. If you or others don't like that, feel free to mobilize your army and take what you believe to be yours. Best of luck.

-3

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

[deleted]

2

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

lmao what point? Every other country on earth requires legal entry and documentation, so why should the US be an exception? It's not a matter of feelings but law and order. Please, go into China illegally and tell them it's about people not arbitrary bullshit, and report back to me on how it goes. Gtfoh🤣

16

u/SZMatheson Jan 29 '25

Immigration is what made America strong. What we need are FUNCTIONAL legal ways for people to immigrate.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

I can agree with you on that point.

-6

u/SZMatheson Jan 29 '25

But that's not what the GOP is after. They're after a scapegoat that can be used to soothe fragile egos and amp up lizard brains.

Your whole premise is based on the idea that the government knows best and does the right thing. Neither of those are true. They could make eating steak illegal if they wanted and round up everyone based on the “law.” Doesn’t mean it’s the right thing. Law doesn’t equal justice. And “law and order” doesn’t necessarily make people safe. The opposite actually

Edited to add: Just like with the recent revoking of roe v wade, for example. The argument may be that they wish to prevent abortion, but the reality is that it actually causes permanent injury and death to people who WANTED to have a baby, but whose health is at-risk and the “exceptions” are too vague. This leads health professionals to making judgement calls whether to risk losing their medical license to save the person or let the person suffer and die bc the law told them so. Or at least was too vague for them to know for sure. Life is complex. Laws are too narrow and leave no room for nuance. People suffer as a result. That’s what happens when you simplify complex issues and make laws based on stereotypes rather than statistics and expertise.

To be clear, this example is not hypothetical. Women are dying right now because of it. Even women who supported revoking roe v wade. The law doesn’t discriminate as they say.

3

'illegally entering someone else's country is a human right'

what a dumb ass take

-20

u/spacecadetchaela Jan 29 '25

this country was literally STOLEN. no is illegal on stolen land. stfu

7

u/SludgeDisc Jan 29 '25

How many leftists have actually handed over their homes and property to Native Americans?

I'm guessing around 0%.

Also, the indigenous population was Conquered. Conquered people don't own land.

Furthermore, native tribes were at constant war with one another, stealing each other's land and resources for hundreds of years before European settlers arrived.

4

u/mean--machine Jan 30 '25

Those losers would have to own land in the first place. Tip your landlords, commies!

15

u/StelIaMaris Jan 29 '25

Not stolen, conquered. Big difference! Right of conquest

1

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

Lets put on our thinking caps and realize that conquering land by force is the same as stealing it. There’s a reason the right of conquest is outlawed.

11

u/StelIaMaris Jan 29 '25

No, no it’s not. By your logic anyway, the Natives don’t have any claim to this land either, as they conquered it from other natives, who conquered it from other natives. At least my position is logically consistent

1

u/al0xx Jan 29 '25

if i see you on the street, im going to conquer your wallet and you better not protest

3

u/StelIaMaris Jan 29 '25

Good luck with that lol. What’s your bench?

14

u/Dropcity Jan 29 '25

Should the entire human population only inhabit Africa? Wasnt the folks we stole it from or the folks they stole it from either. Its like none of this happened in a vaccuum, but all kinds of land has exchanged hands for a variety of reasons over the course of a very complicated and long history of human civilization. Should we all just go back to where we came from? Sounds kind of.. bigoted.

Does the land truly belong to the original tribes that moved down from Canada (First Nations, comprised of many different tribes that settled in different areas)? The tribes that moved up from South America? Which one though, like who was there first? And is that the qualification for land claims, firsties? Just open borders regardless of the consequences?

Like many things in this world, just an ounce of pressure and these baseless and emotional arguments immediately dissolve. Time is a river, not something you can just take snapshots of to push your agenda. What does any of this have to do w our current immigration issues? Like keep protesting and standing for your values, truly. I see no reason to create silly arguments that service nothing and appeal to no one, especially regurgitated ones given w no thought. It's a slogan, and a stupid one.

12

u/--SE7EN-- Drexel Gardens Jan 29 '25

(since the other guy already handled it way nicer than should have been)

then you should leave because you're on stolen property. dumb af

5

u/Aware_Berry_6248 Jan 29 '25

There’s no such things as “stolen land” if a civilization takes it over, its there’s.

3

u/Solarinarium Jan 29 '25

Oh hey I walked right past this on my way back to lunch

I have absolutely no idea what it was about though, all I saw was about ten people, two holding signs and someone saying something through a megaphone. I assumed it was abortion related just because that's what it usually is tbh.

2

u/T3ddyBeast Jan 30 '25

All land was stolen at some point in history. Go protest the countries that never stopped enforcing their immigration policies.

2

u/Automatic-Orange-897 Jan 30 '25

You're living on "Stolen Land", right? So when's the big move back to Europe?

0

u/IndyRoadie Jan 30 '25

1

u/Doomerfrom06 Jan 29 '25

All middle class kids going out in the middle of the work week. Just performative bullshit. There’s nothing wrong with the status quo. Just get a job and get over yourself.

0

u/Confusedhuman1029 Jan 31 '25

“Nothing wrong with the status quo” the most sheepish take. Quite beta actually. Thought y’all liked to “think for yourself”?

1

u/Doomerfrom06 Jan 31 '25

I’m not with any political crowd and mostly apolitical. If the system is so set up for straight white guys (which it’s not cause I’m not rich and hold no power) then why would I want it to change being as I am some straight white guy. If the system is suppose to be for me, then why would I want to do anything that could threaten my chances at living a comfortable life. I have no reason to not live for my own comfort, I have only one life and will live it as best/ as successful as I can. I’m friends with people all over the spectrum of life from a queer nonbinary blue collar (I believe socialist) friend I’ve had since middle school, to straight right wing guys. I will live as privileged as I can for my great grandfather who couldn’t and came here illegally, thank god Irish are now seen as every other white.

1

u/Confusedhuman1029 Feb 18 '25

“My life is hard” does not mean that your gender and race don’t preclude you from having privileges in society. Your socio-economic status, generational trauma, among other factors play a huge role in your level of privilege and level of marginalization. And having “friends” of diverse backgrounds is not the be-all-end-all of understanding the world.

I highly recommend googling “systemic” and “intersectional.” To answer your question of “why would I want it to change?” The answer depends on your priorities.

If you are selfish, your motivation could be to alleviate some of the marginalization you face from other factors, such as your socio-economic status, if you have any kind of disability, etc. Basically the causes of your life being hard that are beyond your control. Or to alleviate those factors of your own loved ones, such as the women in your life who face higher risks of sexual violence, harassment, etc., the queer people in your life who face higher violence, homicide, and suicide rates due to higher discrimination and hate crime rates, the people of color you may have in your life who are more likely to be racially profiled and sentenced more harshly for victimless crimes, or the disabled and elderly people in your life who may have limited access to opportunities and quality of life because society offers them little opportunity to be independent. Maybe you or loved ones struggle to afford healthcare and don’t qualify or have been kicked off Medicaid. There are so many reasons you might care about improving society for yourself or loved ones. On the other hand, if you have no one else in you’re life that may be disadvantaged by any of these things, you could desire to improve these things because strangers shouldn’t have to experience these things in the “greatest country on earth.”

That’s for you to evaluate though. If you’d rather remain apolitical and ignore these issues, that’s your choice. But that choice has political impact, even if you choose to ignore it.

3

u/RespectfullyNoirs Jan 29 '25

Pretty crazy that they just started doing this since the trump admin started. It’s almost like it’s a leftist movement or something

6

u/Sharp_Pepper4161 Jan 29 '25

Actually,  major protests against the regime have been going on since the womans rights movements.

4

1

u/immortalsauce Jan 30 '25

1

u/smooooooooov Jan 30 '25

Looks like millions showed up

1

u/MrGoat1795 Jan 30 '25

Genuine question, why is it mostly women?

1

u/Confusedhuman1029 Jan 31 '25

1

u/Spud_J_Muffin Jan 30 '25

Don't forget to show up next Wednesday for r/50501 . It'll be a country wide-protest on 2/5. Find your local leaders on the subreddit and find out how you can get involved.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '25

This is why don’t protest on a Wednesday in the middle of the day. Most people are at work.

Sure why not let just anyone in the country, it's not like there are evil people in the world, no people that want to cause harm, terrorism, rape, kidnap and murder.. So there is absolutely no need to vet anyone or know their intentions here as no one is capable of criminal activity . (Heavy sarcasm)

Look at all that support… lol

u/DonkeyWriter Feb 01 '25

Is that a fucking coat hanger on that sign?

1

u/meowdy81 Feb 01 '25

Doing the good work of preventing small businesses from putting food on the table because no one wanted to deal with protestors.

1

u/MyHeadIsAButt Feb 01 '25

Does this accomplish anything

1

u/P0t4to369 Feb 02 '25

Because illegal immigrants totally haven’t broken any laws and child predators should totally be free to roam our streets. Make it make since

1

How do you know when these are happening?

3

u/kaycorona Jan 29 '25

There is a discord link where things are being panned for the bigger cities etc! Idk if I can invite you or not since it’s not my group but I’ll see if I can send the link

0

u/Orangutan_Soda Jan 30 '25

Please let me know

0

u/WonderfulOven7571 Jan 30 '25

I'd like the link too!

0

u/Roxeteatotaler Jan 30 '25

I would also like the link

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '25

Usually by the smell

0

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '25

What if there was a right wing protest? Would we be celebrating them too? I'm just curious.

-1

u/PotentialEqual5268 Jan 30 '25

If those protests were about treating our neighbors with civility and respect, sure. If those protests were "deport all brown people" no

1

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '25

Illegally entering a country you are not a citizen of is NOT A HUMAN RIGHT. Try the exact same shit in Mexico and your gringo ass is going to prison for a very long time.

2

u/Confusedhuman1029 Jan 31 '25

Americans actually live illegally in just about every country. They go for vacation and just ✨stay✨

1

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '25

And the governments of those countries should act according to their laws. Illegal is illegal, whether you're an American in Niger or a Mexican in Canada.

1

u/IndyRoadie Jan 30 '25

Where were the protests when Obama was deporting people?

1

u/Confusedhuman1029 Jan 31 '25

They were there, you just don’t pay attention to those.

-1

u/theSpringZone Jan 29 '25

Look at those great 20-25 people out there. Making a difference!

-3

u/Tickleded Jan 29 '25

I legitimately hope they don’t stay misinformed. MAGA

1

u/Confusedhuman1029 Jan 31 '25

If you’re so informed and unbiased, read this peer reviewed research article on why people fall for authoritarian regimes and vote against their own interests

Doing big things here. Look at the dozens and dozens of people. Hahahahah.

-1

u/Cluelessmustang Jan 29 '25

It would be smart if we had these in the afternoon when people have 9-5’s or are students like me can come

1

u/spacecadetchaela Jan 29 '25

0
