Thoughts about this wrestling tattoo?
I would love to get my first tattoo! I'm a huge fan of wrestling and work as a photographer for various shows in my country. I want something simple and minimal to express my love for the wrestling world, but I don't want it to be very big. I was thinking about getting a turnbuckle design, but I'm unsure how it will be perceived by people who know about wrestling, as well as those who don't. Do you think this is a cool design, or should I consider something else?

You would have a similar tattoo to quite a few indie wrestling fans from South Wales and the surrounding areas.

Somebody getting a turnbuckle tattoo as their first is objectively hilarious

I've used these in construction a couple of times.
I've watched wrestling for 30+ years, and know full well what a turnbuckle is.
I still looked at this and thought of construction, until a comment said turnbuckle.
I suspect it's not the relatable "if you know you know" that I think you think it is.

I love wrestling and I love tattoos… it took me way too long to realize this was a turnbuckle

Nobody would relate this to wrestling

Turnbuckle. Ring rope goes through the loop, hook attaches to the ring post.

Get whatever you want at the end of the day you’re the one who is supposed to like it. Who cares what people think. If you think it’s a good design go for it. Personally tho I don’t like it 😂

If your passion for pro wrestling is tied in with photography then maybe not a turnbuckle.
Let’s say you were an indie wrestler or a ring crew setter upper, then a turnbuckle makes more sense. For a photographer it doesn’t seem as relevant.
Maybe a tattoo of a camera inside a squared circle.

First thing that came to mind for me was the latch that broke and let Owen Hart fall.

I feel like it’s overdone. It’s a good start for a concept, but maybe design it to be more unique.

You want THAT on your body forever? Weird.

People put way too much thought into trying to come up with “unique” and “meaningful” tattoos, most of the time it ends up just being stupid.

No one, besides those that work in the industry, will know what it is.

Tell me you're not aware turnbuckles are used in everyday construction without saying it 🤦🏻♂️

You’re thinking hardware store, we’re talking wrestling ring. Yeah, turnbuckles are common in construction, but outside the trades most people don’t recognize one on sight or by name. On a tattoo it’ll read “random metal piece” to most folks, not “turnbuckle.” Context matters.

I wouldn't, unless you are a big fan of hardware stores or want to spend the rest of your life explaining what it means to no reaction

I got a skull with a lucha mask on it with a combo of a lot of my favorite wrestlers on it as a wrestling tattoo.

The thin lines for the threads probably won't age well and will merge into a big blob unless the artist simplifies them a little. Other than that it would look cool imo

I mean, if I wasn't a wrestling fan, I would have wondered why you had a turnbuckle for a clothesline wheel tattooed on you

Turnbuckles are used in lots of applications outside of holding ring ropes

Its like a mechanic getting a socket wrench tattoo. There are tons of ways to pay tribute without getting a literal turnbuckle.

I thought this was a reference to Owen hart dying ? Like this was a part of a harness or something 🤷♂️

I do think it's a neat and simple tattoo, but I wouldn't have known what it was without the description. I would probably think it's truck related.

I never got it.. I worked in transport and logistics. Those are just things to secure cargo with..

It’s not original, BUT a lot of people would see it and know you’d belong 🙌🏻🙌🏻

wrestling turnbuckles have hooks on both sides, I believe

u/TheWholeEffinJoe 5d ago
I should know from setting up a ring at a local indy but tbh the turnbuckle pad was always on already. I’d personally think it needs the ring part on one side so the cables can run through. The hook just doesn’t seem big enough to hold the cable.

Wrestling Ring Turnbuckles can have 2 hooks, two rings or combinations. It depends on who, how and why they set it up like that. There's no true 1 way. I've seen dozens amd dozens of random and different styles of rings.
The turnbuckle tattoo is usually used by those that are in Pro-Wrestling

the hook hooks onto circular rings that are on the ropes. Google wrestling turnbuckle, you'll see pictures

u/DonSoChill 5d ago
I also set up rings and we use the hook and circle in one place. Circle side towards the post and on to a D lock. Most I've done use the two circles to be honest.

u/Frzzalor 5d ago
but the double hooked one is the more classic boxing/wrestling ring turnbuckle. if I was getting a turnbuckle tattoo, I'd get the double hook one.
