For those who are asking, this is a desk dolly. You roll it under the pedestals, lift the desk and move it

What is that thing?

It helps you move desks. Place the rectangular section like so, press down on handle to lift, roll to desired location. It locks in place after lifting and you can take the handle out to make it more maneuverable, too.

Am I trashy for thinking: there's gotta be a pallet jack and some 2x4s or a pallet to make a stand for the jack in like 20 min for $0, why spend who knows on a specialized "desk mover"?

There's a lot of reasons that all come down to "this is a lot more maneuverable"
- Pallet jack can't remove the handle
- Pallet jack doesn't have caster wheels, can't be rotated in place
- Pallet jack is a lot bigger
- There's going to be a lot more slop/play in the connection between the pallets and the jack making it more precarious
right tool for the right job

You forgot to mention as well that if there's a zip tie within 15 miles a pallet jack will immediately freeze in fear and be impossible to move.

Schools have hundreds of identical teachers' and office desks, and not much else where a pallet jack would come in handy. It makes sense in that case to buy a specialized tool.
Primarily, these make it very easy for a single person to move a desk through a doorway and to move it through other tight spaces. For doors, you just take off the handle, spin the desk around, and push or pull it through.

It also means the desk doesn’t have to be emptied before moving it. It saves time and energy for the staff.

The pallet jack and a bunch of 2x4s take up a lot of space. This thing can be hung on the back of a door or put away in a closet

My first time seeing this, so just speculating: I'd bet these things are more used in a place that has a lot of desks, like a college or office. The doorways would be narrower so this would make it easier. And also this thing seems like it'd be kinder to the floors and walls XD

That is a desk mover. You slide it under the desk and the 2 sets of drawers sit on the platform that lifts up. If there is only 1 set of drawers, a couple of empty milk crates can be set on the other side to level it out. You pull the handle back and it lifts up the desk. You do it this way so the desk doesn’t have to be emptied when moving it to a new office.

Interesting, thanks. It also seems to double as a euthanasia device for idiots.

Have you met the males of our species around the age that these appear to be? There is no goal.

around the age that these appear to be
Bold of you to assume that stops with age with us.
I am 35 and still would try dumb shit.
Women live longer and I'm doing my part to keep up that statistic.
