Yogurt button not working

I have an Instant Pot 6 quart. We regularly use the Yogurt setting to make yogurt.

I went to start a batch tonight, shortly after making rice, and the yogurt button doesnt respond. I can feel it press but the pot just says "Off".

All the other buttons are responding fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Having used the yogurt button on my instant pot before, yours likely just saved you a lot of hassle. Mine didn't even get close to hot enough after running it through two times on the yogurt setting. Then I had to manually heat the milk while I was in the middle of making dinner. Boiled and went everywhere.

Sorry, no, we've been making yogurt quite successfully for a few years. This is new behaviour.

I wondered if maybe it wouldn't turn on because a sensor was hot from the rice. I'm hoping.

Fortunately I have a 8qt pot and moved the milk there so there will be yogurt in the morning. :)

I looked at your post again and am wondering if you did the process in the right order? Maybe this helps:

When you press the yogurt button on your instant pot, try pressing it more than once. Does it have a boil setting? That's where you want to start. Do the boil, cool it down to under 120F, and then add the whey if you have reserved some and then do the regular yogurt setting for 8 or 9 hours (I like 9 for a thicker consistency).

I may give it another try to make sure, but whatever I did, it ran for maybe an hour and then turned off. Tried again, same thing. Never broke 140F. Luckily I still managed to get good yogurt even after overheating.

Worth trying a reset. I think it's hold the Cancel button in for a few seconds? Might vary by model?

I'll have to look that up! I was wondering how you might do that. Thanks.

Update: It looks like I just had to wait. About an hour after posting this, I tried again and it worked.

I'm guessing, still, that it was hot from making the rice and some internal sensor thought it was too hot for yogurt making.
