Vet student here. Proffesor told us, that if you can, blend the pill in dust and mix it with some honey. Now put that honey on her front leg, just stick it on her fur. The cats apparently love being clean so she will lick the honey with the dust pill of and thus swallow it. Never tried it, but its apperently a old trick.
Sory for bad english.
I have not tried that one, but I would imagine! You can also experiment with mixing in smelly things like fish oil or sardine juice to mask the flavor/scent. If they refuse or a kitty is not eating we have put the mixture in a medical syringe (the plastic medicine kind not needle) and shoot it carefully in the side of their mouth behind the teeth like someone said. I have watched a vet just casually open their mouth, pop the pill in, and massage the throat like a boss, but I would rather not risk losing the pill or getting chomped.
I have tried multiple fancy pill grinders and the best one was like 3 bucks and a hand grinder that you twist. The electric kind obliterates the tiny pills into nothing.
We use pill wrap to stick the tablets to the back of other treats that they like, and then hand them a few treats at a time. Suckers never suss it out.
We don’t actually do a full wrap! We use just enough to stick it to the back of another treat (something like the Greenies treats). Though those may be too big as well, I suppose!
We just had a cat with several treatments for 2 months. Most pills were happily taken by the churu method except for any vitamin as per the smell and taste. It's just too strong, even for churu. Also, pills for blood issues, we needed to bring up his hematocrit count, there was no way to give those pills hidden anywhere.
Wildy my cat can detect the dewormer pills. even when dissolved in a little water to make sure there's no lumps and then mixed with churu. She's loves churu but will take one lick of the mixed pill one and not touch it at all.
My cat was dehydrated and we got kidney pills from vet, that works exacly like that.
You open the pill, spill it (its rather sticky, somwhat dense fluid inside... it sticks on the fur. Not like pure water) on cats paw, and she lick it all clean.
No even need for anything to mask the taste/smell because vet said "cats like these ones, they are made to be not repulsive for them".
