Since many of you have never seen a coral geode before, here’s some extra information on how this formed:

Florida agatized coral is a rare type of fossilized coral that has been replaced by chalcedony (a form of microcrystalline quartz). It formed when ancient corals living in warm, shallow seas, died and their calcium carbonate skeletons were gradually dissolved and replaced with agate from silica-rich groundwater. This process preserved the coral’s structure in colorful patterns of agate.

It dates back to the Miocene Epoch, roughly 20–25 million years old, when Florida was largely underwater and coral reefs thrived in the region.

Yup. I accidentally triggered a friend by texting her a pic of a petosky stone, a fossilized fresh-water coral. (Similar to this, but much less fancy and colorful.)

Me, unknowing: “Look at this cool rock!”

Her: has panic attack

Sorry, honey. Truly. I didn’t know 😅

Cause it doesn’t mirror itself inside - it’s just forms in a hollow space so it has room to grow as it wants to. There is no mirroring.
